Outstanding Performance. Joshua, if you read this, can you please tell us your Signal Chain and Processing. That Tone is what I like to call a Lobster Dipped In Butter Tone. Also, for anyone that's interested, most of what Joshua is doing is essentially a Chord Melody with Single Notes in Position Technique with Pick and Fingers/Legato. Its actually very Joe Pass. Although Joshua's Tone Is better and his Legato is Extremely Smooth. Its not only Joshua's Legato Technique itself that is so smooth, its also the Tone itself that makes the Legato sound even Smoother. Joe Pass was never too fussy about his Tone. Also for anyone that's interested, please check out Joe Pass's solo Virtuoso recordings and Hot Licks Instructional Videos and also Joshua Meader's Jam Track Central Instructional Videos. Thanks.

Don't spoil us with so much beauty so fast. We're not in a hurry. Take it slow.
@sat124110 ай бұрын
Josh Meader, he conveys some of the beauty of it but it's in this overly short condensed version, and as typical with Meader has too many too many fancy fast riffs and tricky chord melodies. It's another show-off vehicle as opposed to serving one of the best ballads in jazz. Listen to the composition on Miles' Kind of Blue. That is proabaly the best version. It evokes a sad but gentle mood. Coltrane takes a solo on it. He doesn't do any fast distracting riffs. The guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg has a nice version of this on youtube. It's a good one about 6 minutes. Bill Evans has a 4.5 minute trio version on Portrait. You can't get into the mood with this condensed 1:34 minute version. Why would you make a version shorter than the original? Are our attention spans that bad? There's a nice acoustic guitar version one youtube: Vironas Ntolas - Blue in Green (Miles Davis/Bill Evans) A challenge for Meader would be to play a ballad with no fancy fast riffs in it. You don't have to be a virtuoso every time you pick up the instrument. Ben Monder is good a playing ballads in new ways but without resorting to fast riffs thrown in. Sometimes just serve the music, the mood and spirit of the composition. This is a sad tune with a little glimmer of hope in it. The goal is not to play it as pretty as possible. It's to convey the mood and spirit of the song, in my opinion. Other tunes are more made as a blowing or technique platform. I do like the last 30 seconds of the playing here by Josh. That's where the mood starts to sink in. Unfortunately the song then ends. Ichika songs are composed to be short, are beautiful but I would not say soulful and you often think about his technique when he plays. A song like Blue in Green, it takes a few minutes to hit your heart. If the technique shows too much it can distract from the spirit of the song, especially on ballads.

Great guitar player- but he butchers this. The tune is not a showcase for technique; it’s an extended meditation on an augmented blues form… written by Bill, btw, but credited to Miles because Miles took credit for lots of tunes he didn’t write. See Walter Rodriguez Jr. for a beautiful, proper solo guitar version of this. And before all you fanboys come after me, I love Joshua as a player- he’s an amazing guitarist. But he doesn’t have to shred everything and I wish he wouldn’t…
