Already purchased my 2020, but came to this video juuuust in case, haha. I feel like there's definitely a tiny bit of sharpness in the Yeti, like an 's' sound has a bit too tinny of a reverb compared to the 2020. I feel like the latter is just much more solid and dull (in a good way) for its recording quality because it picks up everything straight, especially with the frontal cardioid pattern. But yeah, great video brother, very informative and I wish you luck!

Hi Phillip! I have both mics. Love them! But you are right about the ambient noise, especially with the AT2020. Also when I normalizes, it seems to amplify everything? Any tips on how I can further minimize this?
@Sebbatical
@Sebbatical Жыл бұрын
There's noise reduction in audacity. Just highlight the background noise click "get noise profile" then highlight all vocals and click "reduce" then when you normalize your vocals, it's not increasing the sound of your background noise along with your present vocals.

I've been thinking alot about microphones lately, and nailing it down between the at2020 and the blue yeti. I think the blue yeti would be cheaper, because its only required a usb hub. But with the at2020, you need to buy the xlr cable, and a audio interface.
@PhillipRPeck

I have the blue yeti pro and I dont like the 5 pin, where the AT 2020 is XLR. With the yeti I find the cord for the USB keeps losing power and it losses. If you are getting the AT 2020 I would recommend getting a goxlr it's amazing.

Thanks for this video. It is awesome that you switch between the two mics often, so it is possible to hear the differences. And the comparison on the different microphones in the end as well. I think that the AT2020 has a bit of an annoying bi sound (can you say that in English? :-D). So I think that the Blue Yeti has more of a smooth and soothing sound, which I would prefer if I'm doing hypnosis/mindfulness soundtracks. Thanks again :-)

Hello, I recently got a new AT2020USB+. While recording (singing) in a quiet room(acoustically untreated), the mic is capturing a lot of noise. I don't understand from where it's coming. Any suggestions? Do you think Shure MV7 will be a better option for singing in an untreated room?
@PhillipRPeck
@PhillipRPeck 3 жыл бұрын
I’m not familiar with the AT2020USB, but the regular AT2020 has a high self noise. Could be that. Also it could be capturing fans, AC, really any other source in your room

@PhillipRPeck
@PhillipRPeck Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I don't have a ton of experience with different interfaces. I've been using the Audient evo4 for a few years and it's been great. If you don't need two inputs then really anything from Focusrite, Rode, any trusted brand really should work just fine. You don't need a ton of gain for a condenser mic like the 2020 so don't feel like you need to overspend

Audio Technica AT2020 X does not power on. I've tried 3 different adapters and 2 different phones and it doesn't power on. So how Audio Technica has not been apprehended for fraud is beyond my comprehension. Just to clarify: I am referring to the AT2020 X which is suppose to be compatible with your android and / or iphone. Audio Technica basically lied just to sell you a microphone that does not and will not work with any phone you happen to have.

for the room without acoustics which one you will recommend ( for voice over and voice recording)
@PhillipRPeck
@PhillipRPeck 10 ай бұрын
Shouldn't really matter, they're both condenser mics so they have similar sensitivity. Whichever way you go, just put the mic within 5-10 inches of your mouth. This will allow you to keep the gain low and help you get a clean recording with minimal room noise. Aside from that, I'd go with the AT2020 as I've heard that the quality of the Yeti mics has taken a hit since Logitech took over

I had the blue yeti usb and it was great, now im using a at2020 xlr and keep having really bad sibilance problems, any tips? Should i just go back to the yeti?
@PhillipRPeck
@PhillipRPeck 2 жыл бұрын
I think the AT2020 is pretty boosted in the high end and prone to sibilance. Adding a windscreen would help cut down high frequencies, but I don't have any particular recommendations of what will fit the mic, though I'm sure there are many out there if you just do a Google search. Otherwise, you can add a De-Esser in post
