Got to say, after watching this video I do feel dumb. Went in super ignorant and armed with zero knowledge. I was a moron and all I could see in front of me was the endgame vision of my wife and I in our motorhome at the end, and I think he saw that. I was so excited that I ignored my gut instinct. By the time we got in front of the finance guy I was overstimulated tired so I just signed. The sticker was 55,000 and in the end I financed for 70,000. I have no excuse for being so dumb but if someone else can learn from my foolishness and *LISTEN TO THIS MAN* it's worth telling my tale. At the end of the day it is nice unit, it has low miles and we'll get many years out of it. We'll also be paying it off in less than 5 years with the plan we have. We'll just end up paying 15,000 extra that we didn't plan on...

Here is my experience with Camping World. This is very recent. I have my own financing from a credit union. This just happened. I went to camping world august 11,2023. I found what I wanted told the salesman hey I want this, but I’m not putting any money down. On Monday august 14,2023 my credit Union and myself ask for a buyers / purchase order with my credit union listed as lien holder, we agree to terms and I purchase a hitch in the price of the camper, I was told we can have this camper unit on Thursday august 17,2023. I drove 3 hours home on Monday August 14. On Tuesday August 15 I had a meeting to sign papers and hand over the check, I was then told that my camper I was purchasing wasn’t available until Friday the 18th or possibly Saturday the 19. That I would have to wait. I said why? They said the camper I wanted that was located in Jackson Mississippi was sold. They had 2 campers the same model. They said they had to go to Lafayette Louisiana to get my camper, since I was purchasing a anti sway hitch it would take more time to prep the camper and it was unreasonable for me to have my camper at 5:30 PM on Thursday August 17,2023. They said since the service department closes at 5 PM I would need to return maybe Friday but most definitely Saturday at 12 noon. Basically the general manager lied this whole time. Because I refused to put a 500 deposit in on this camper as it would be taken off the sales lot as “sold” The general manager said I was unreasonable and that I am one of those customers that’s not 100% right, and he refused to schedule my delivery of the camper at 5:30 Thursday August 17,2023. I left the dealership with my loan check. And I refuse to ever give camping world my business.. they are scam artists!!!

Thanks for your story Jason, that is unfortunate but I am not surprised one bit by camping world. I would definitely look for a family owned RV dealership that is willing to actually put their name on the line as being their for their customers especially if they want to keep their business. Even still this might be hard to find as most are out to make sales at any cost. Good luck out there!

When you walk in to any dealer, ask them what the price will be for the camper you want plus tax, title, and license fee. no add-ons, just tax title, and license fees. if they balk and say "I can't do that" turn around and walk out, it is YOU that is taking on the debt, not the salesman (he doesn't give two Fs about you and is not your friend). Personally I would buy a used camper ( which I did) and save a boatload of money, yes you have to be careful not to buy a money pit, but there are some good deals out there with private sellers. most campers have had the same floor plans for the last 30-40 years. But it is YOUR money, do as you please.🤑

Never tell them your monthly payment. Always always know your product shop around and hit them low. Know their bottom price. Shop your financing ahead of time. Know you interest rate and never tell them you have already secure the financing. When you whittle the price down. Get to the finance office and let them give you the financing details. Once they show their hand you show yours and then say can you beat this? When they squirm and get pissed, walk out and tell them that in order to make a deal you’ll have to come off the price a bit more to “earn your business today”. 😅 walk away. They don’t contact you back, then go to another place and repeat. You will get a ton of calls but stay steady.

They're a dealership so of course they're going to make money off of you. They're hopefully providing you a service so it's understood that they will make a profit. I'm not going to defend how camping world does business, but your tactics aren't going to work everywhere. All these dealerships buy these RVs for the same cost. The only difference being freight and that some dealers get kickbacks from certain banks for getting people to finance with them. People lose their minds when they find out that a dealership made a dollar off of them. Here's my advice when buying an RV. 1. Buy local Hopefully with an hour of your residence. Service isn't an if it's a when and you will at some point need it. Don't buy from 5 hours away because they are willing to sell for $3,000 cheaper. You will lose way more money driving up there to get your warranty work done and no your local dealership doesn't have to do your warranty work if they decide not to. Warranty work pulls away resources and the technicians doing your work make pennies on the dollar to fix the issues so don't expect a dealership that you refused to buy locally from to pony up when you come complaining that your fridge stopped working. 2. Buy from someone you know and can trust. Don't go into a dealership immediately asking what's your best price on this and that etc. Take some time with whoever you're working with to get to know them as well as the place they do business. How many technicians do they have? Years of experience? There are more important things than asking about a price. Build a relationship and give the salesman a chance to connect with you because surely enough if you do business with them, you'll be seeing each other again. If you can't trust them or if they see shady then by all means, take your business elsewhere. But don't walk in with a chip on your shoulder expecting these people to flock to your demands. 3. Give your salesman a budget and stick to it. In the RV business you get what you pay for. If you want something under 10k go look on Facebook marketplace. Know that it doesn't matter what you look at, they will all leak if not properly maintained and they will all have problems down the road that will need to be addressed. Your dealerships service department is more important than what they sell on the lot. Nearly every single RV on the market was built in the same town. Brand names matter very little. 4. To get something you've got to give something. Rv's have tradeoffs so once you've established a budget have 5 things that are musts when shopping for a camper. Be reasonable with this list and understand that if you want something under 20ft you're probably not going to have washer/dryer prep, a bunkhouse, and outdoor kitchen. Have your list ranked in order of importance. No RV is perfect and it will have its flaws,. Your spouse has flaws, your house has flaws, and your RV will have flaws even if you don't notice them right away. 5. Buy something that you could see yourself keeping for at least 5 years. This also goes back to buying something you can afford. If you have to change jobs or take a pay cut how badly will this make things when it comes to making your payments? Campers depreciate just like boats, cars, etc. Years down the road they'll only have value if it's something you continue to use and maintain. Take care of your things and buy something you plan to hold onto. That pay off will follow you no matter what you do. Don't buy something then expect your dealership to buy it back or trade it in for something smaller with a smaller pay off. That's not how math works. When you make a deal with the bank you can trust they will come to collect. 6. When you sit down to make a deal there is sometimes room for negotiation. Understand that in 99% of cases a dealership will make something off of you. Somewhere between a 3-10k deal isn't uncommon. Anything more than that and personally I think that's a bit too much and they probably don't deserve your business. That 3-10k made from the dealership doesn't all go to a salesman. Back to costs. That RV sitting on the lot has costs, the guys that prep your RV have costs, the hourly employees have costs, the propane that's been added to your tanks that you thought was free has a cost and so on. Good practice is to never go off of msrp and to always get the best deal when you sit down in the office. Don't always compare prices to what you're seeing online. Online prices don't tell a complete picture as to what you pay out the door. After you get the first price back from their boss this is when it gets tricky. If you're serious about buying this camper get them to meet you in the middle here but be reasonable. Know that the less expensive something is the less room there is to move. Say something retailed for $148k and they came down to $120k. Don't ask them can you come down a little more. Make an offer. If you offer low say $100k and they meet you at $105k , then that initial best price was probably a fleece. A respectable dealership wouldn't leave that high of a margin. Just know if that you offer to low, they may not consider your offer at all, and you will be left standing at $120k. If you've taken time with somebody and are ready to buy, then make a serious offer and see what they do. Just be prepared to buy at the second offer. If you keep trying to whittle them down after that then they probably won't take you seriously and if you're able to move them again and again I wouldn't trust them as a buyer. Not all dealerships have Fees but ask to see what they are. Every dealership has a freight fee whether it's on the deal sheet or not. Wal-Mart accounts for freight costs in their prices and so do some dealerships. The difference is if the freight fee is truly used to cover freight or if it's used to increase the commission of the sale. If you don't like dealing with that nonsense, then shop at dealers that don't have those fees. Plenty exist. Feel free to reply with your thoughts if you took the time to read all of this. My point I wanted to make is that going from dealership-to-dealership shopping for prices is exhausting for you and them. Slow down, be informed, and take your time.

It sounds like the experience there was the same as when we got a new SUV earlier this year. We saw a dealer had on their website the trim level we wanted in the color we wanted, emailed back and forth with a salesman a few times, confirmed price and arrival date, set a day to go drive it in order to be sure. Sure enough, we were suddenly presented with a number of add-on services that increased the price by $5k. We went back and forth with us not budging. Salesman then said, "listen, we need to make some money. Other dealerships are selling this particular version for much more than we quoted to you." We said we would walk out if they would not drop all of the extras and they relented. The rest of the paperwork process was very quiet...lol.

My wife and went to Camping World in Conway NH back in 2022 we got a deal for $25,000 on the Platinum Forest River so we deposit $1000 and a few days later we went to pick up the RV and deposit another $3000. The finance guy told us that the loan would not get approve unless we bought the 5 years warranty which will cost another $3000. I right away told my wife I don’t want the RV because if you think about it now the RV Total more than what we agreed on the first day we went to look at the RV. Because my wife really wanted the RV she couldn’t see the BS we were buying into. I left to her to make the decisions and she end up signing everything and now we own the RV. People please don’t get the bait and switch scam they are doing. I saw a video on KZfaq about buying a RV and just want everyone to not get scam like we did. Our RV cost us more than $30000 instead of $25,500. Please please please buy smart don’t get scam by these scumbags. Dishonest people

as someone who works at a camping world i whole heartedly agree, the salesmen are always scamming people into buying over budget and scamming the retail team out of our own comissions, and on top of that they will send you to the retail team with a goal of getting another 1k out of you for the retail side, having a setup of all the "camping necessities" to try and make you think you need everything we say you do, dont fall for it go in with a budget and knowledge of what you need and get out, i know for sure im not buying a camper any time soon with how these salemen treat the customers

Thanks man, this is what i was looking for, I wasn't sure what the stuff the "Finance" guys try to sell you. Keep in mind, IT IS ILLEGAL FOR THEM TO TELL YOU FINANCING IS DEPENDENT ON ANYTHING, if you are approved, you are approved, that's it. if a dealership tells you financing is approved but only if you get the insurance through them, get up and leave. I'm in the market, and I love how these dealers only want to work you on monthly payment... DON'T GO ON MONTHLY PAYMENT. If you have to worry about what that is, you can't afford the camper. Work on your total budget, and don't let them direct you to monthly payment. They can manipulate monthly payment with time, furthermore, by allowing them to work on monthly payment, they can sell you addons that you don't need, that are within your monthly payment.. again.. by adding time. Working on total budget will keep you from moving into those options like paint protection. My two cents.

I was going to buy an RV from Camping World last year (mainly because it was conveniently located). I walked away after they tried to tack on $10,000 to the MSRP in various fees. I wound up driving from SC to Michigan to get the exact same camper for 30% below MSRP & got my first camping trip with it on my trip back home. Never be unwilling to tell a salesman/dealership to pound sand & walk away. They may seem friendly but they are not your friends. They will screw you over with no remorse.

One important point to remember is CW also operates as other brands so please do your homework. We live close to a CW that bought out a large independent dealer that many liked in our area near Nashville. This was Cullem and Maxey which is next door to CW near Opryland. Their sign now says Gander RV but otherwise they're CW. Unfortunately, CW buys out numerous smaller chains or independents and seems like some they convert to CW branding and others they use something else. If this was discussed in the video and I missed it, I'm sorry. Travel safe

It takes all the pressure out of the process. This sets the tone that you are patient and will be price shopping.

We went to CW when looking for our motorhome. High pressure low product knowledge sales people. Couldn't get one sales guy to leave us alone. We had good credit and money for a downpayment. CW sales guy tries to push us to buy a unit they had on the lot. Window seals were broken and they initially denied they were bad and windows were fogged. After we pushed the issue they agreed to fix some of the windows that were bad. They had installed new tires that were faded brown and from some third world country without WIDOT date codes. We RAN away. Do your homework, take your time. It's your money. Get pre approved by your credit union or local bank first. We have purchased chairs, camping mats and many other accessories at CW for our RV. We would never buy a class A MH from CW based on our experiences at 2 different locations and why we have learned after a year RVing in our Tiffin MH.

54 years in Rv business, 40+ as buyer/consignor. Seems more like rant. A better approach would be a detailed/ specific/numbered approach to a purchase. My advice if/when possible purchase private party. Main obstacle will be meeting sellers price demands. Most offers they are upside down and want to get out clean with no out of pocket expenses. This is where patience finesse knowledge and experience are important.

Holy cow I would never ever do business with people who treat others like that, some of these comments are really upsetting. It’s totally okay to try to make money but it’s horrible to lie and cheat and steal, changing price and lying about agreements is wild. We do full disclosure, honor internet pricing (typically 30% off MSRP or more) and we only suggest the hitch for $1295 on cars and small trucks and suvs. What you and these comments are describing is shady car sales tactics, it’s awful

I got scammed on my first vehicle loan way back when with gap insurance. It was only supposed to be $1200 and last the first 12 months but also included into the entire loan term. I was confused as well, I did do some research and some companies that the dealerships source the gap insurance from do offer cancellation with the option to get back the money paid in. I would contact the insurance company that the dealership used for the gap and talk to them directly as the dealership will tell you lies as they make profits off each gap plan they sell. Good luck fighting the scammers!

Gap should be a flat amount/cost and it can actually be a good idea for people financing a vehicle of any type unless you are certain that you will have enough insurance in the event that your vehicle is totaled. I used to work at a credit union and our gap was $250. Gap covers in the event that your vehicle is totaled and your regular insurance isn’t enough to pay off your loan. I have seen it be a very good addition to someone who totaled a fairly new vehicle when their insurance only covered about 80% of the loan. Gap finished paying off their loan so the person didn’t have to keep paying on something that they no longer could use.

You can, but you'll probably go for the better terms offered with camping World's lenders. Their lenders tend to give longer terms which give you a lower payment which many people go for. Not very many people want to hear it, but a wiser thing to do is to never purchase an item that depreciates on credit. It will save you many many headaches in life.

I have a question regarding my insurance check made out to “Camping World Collision Center” for repairs to over $10,000 damage on my RV. We have a law suit in litigation due to water damages because they forgot to re-install our main water inlet hose. 😡Camping World told my insurance agent to make the check out to “Camping World Collision Center”. During discovery we have in writing from Camping World that states “Camping World Collision Center Does Not Exist.” 🤔 This got even more interesting after we found out the back of the check was signed by Camping World RV Sales. 🤨 Correct me if I’m wrong but this seems strange. I would like to know what are your thoughts and how I should handle this information. Follow our case: “Austin vs Camping World “ Is this legal? Maybe they are just trying to make their shareholders happy by making their sales look better than they actually are. 🤔 That’s very interesting 🧐

@@tsturgil5833 that is exactly the amount Camping World tried to charge me. Then they offered to reduce it to $1000. When I told them any amount was unacceptable they offered to take the charge off completely. I just walked away.

Camping World in Harrisburg Pennsylvania I wouldn't recommend to buy anything from these people. Thor Motor Coach Class C 2022. when it was under the warranty they won't fix one thing for the motor coach absolutely nothing!!! (Thor Motor Coach ) The whole motor coach was under warranty they would not fix one thing!!!!!! I have a Thor Motor Coach it's the world's largest lemon!! My attorney has a sitting in his driveway covered up because we don't trust nobody not even thor Motor Coach. We had a professional look at it too and he said it was the worst piece of trash he ever seen!!!

I work sales at a CW. There's a Freight and Prep fee that comes with every new unit (usd only has a prep fee). We had to pay it to be sent here. And Prep covers a walk-through orientation of the unit when they come to pick it up, if its a USED unit, the Prep fee covers sanitization of the unit, new batteries, they fill your LP tanks, and they give you the walk-through. I understand where you're coming from making this video but you sound like one bad experience got the best of you and you're whining about it. We're not screwing people. We're listed on the stock market so we are a full-disclosure dealership. MOST OTHER DEALERS have those Freight and Prep fees but you don't see a breakdown of those numbers at THAT dealership because they're not a publicly traded company.

Freight and Prep fees are ridiculous… All of that should be included when purchasing an RV it should already be in the cost of the RV. It shouldn’t be an extra cost that’s added on at the last minute.

I work at a large camping store. We lose money daily because the service department are so fucked that the Managers give stuff away to anyone who complains for the hopes of a good rating. We gave someone a free $2000 awning and over 4 hours of labor for free for a good rating, and they left is a 100% negative rating. The manager of service couldn't shut up about it and blocked their number on his phone
