here is my fbi grade ballistic gel test comparing the penetration of tss shot sizes of #8's #9's & #10's at 40 yards
the setup:
franchi affinity 3 with a patternmaster code black turkey .383
we will be testing different shot sizes at different ranges as we go, as well as steel vs bismuth etc

Good job I knew the 10s would do good n the larger would go farther but all in all there all lethal at 40 + in them great job guys love the videos keep it up

The shells with the 8, 9 and 10 shot are known as a duplex load. As a shot shell reloader, I can tell you the rule of thumb with duplex loads is to load the larger shot on top of the smaller shot. The fact that the 8s were on top could easily explain why they penetrated a little further than the smaller pellets.

Technically this would be a “Triplex” load as duplex means two. Also the larger pellets penetrated further for several reasons, main one being down range energy, bigger pellet has more energy bc it’s heavier.

I would like to see an all #8 load vs an all #10 load in the gell at 40 yards. The 8s were leading the pack in this test I wonder if that affects the results at all.

Well 9’s penetration would be the same regardless of the gauge the only thing would change that would be speed and most tss loads are very close in speed

You would need to shoot a shell of each shot size instead of a blend the fps is not going to be equal

It’s been consistent to what we seen in the other gel tests so I’d say it’s pretty accurate

I killed my first Turkey 🦃 ever last year in Texas. I called them in but they came in on the other side of a Stock Pond and Hung Up. He was strutting and putting on a Show, I knew the distance was 55 - 60 yards. When I Squeezed the Bang Switch that TSS literally Cut Him a Flip. When I took my Range Finder out it was 57 Yards. TSS made a Believer outta me.

We won’t be shooting them that close, the penetration would be 9+ inches as we’ve done a test before at 20 yards and it yielded minimal learning potential from it

@@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA Not trying to be a jerk but I think you might be overlooking some of that potential....You're saying that the shot stopped at the 9+ inch mark at around the 20-25 yard distance.....That is still very incredible when you think about the shot size being worked with. Would you be up for trying a re-test at an even closer distance of 5-10 yards with the .410 (cylinder or Improved cylinder choke installed) ?

What I was saying by my comment is the cost to value of doing said test isn’t there, tss is extremely impressive in our ballistic gel tests so far but having already tested it several times at 40 yards and before at 20 like I stated doing another test up close wouldn’t be worth the cost of doing it I do agree that much penetration with such little shot is extremely impressive but it’s expected nonetheless given the density of shot and especially after already seeing it penetrate as deep as it has at 40 yards which to me is much more impressive We will be testing the tss in the gel at 50-60-70-80 yards even to try to find where it really does lose its lethality now we don’t condone said range shots on wild game but for testing purposes these tests will yield very valuable information

I think you just said 2" shell. There are some claims of using tss on predators but I'm wondering if they get the 12" of penetration needed for that.

@jameswaters313 well the predator loads you’re talking BB , 2 & 4 shot and we’ve shot them on the predator pattern series that will kill em cold at 100 easily
