Making a full set of window covers for your van, camper or RV is an easy DIY project that most people can tackle in a couple hours. For our Ford Transit van build, we made a full set of magnetic insulated window covers in about 2 hours and for less then $100. Hello! Great video. :) We wanted light blocking so we were thinking maybe sew some light blocking curtains (cut to size) onto the reflectix. But how did you sew them? Hire a seamstress? Do you think that would work to block all light from coming into the van? Or would there still be light at the edges? Also, how did you do the windshield? Thanks very much!

Have you found a good way to store the covers when not in use? Storage seems like the drawback compared to curtains or roll-up shades, and I have windows all the way around.

We typically leave the rear and slider door in every time we drive. The front ones we just throw on our bed since we never lay in bed unless we are covering the windows. You can also stash them flat under the mattress.

Anybody have any tips on fabrics to cover the reflectix with? We were thinking about using nylon.

Is there anything less bulky, think, and time consuming? I would prefer something black.

Black poster board is thinner and meets your color requirement. Ordering custom fit curtains can be a time saving option. As is hiring someone to do the work of fitting Reflectix panels for you. BTW, bulk has an advantage. Generally, the thicker something is the more insulation value it contains.

Can you leave these up while driving? Not sure if will affect other drivers?

We always leave the rear and side cover in. We have tinted windows which cuts down on the outside reflection a lot. We've since updated our covers by sewing black nylon to the insulation. Completely blacks out the window and you can't see any reflection at all.
