Just a clarification, Bluetooth 5.2 by itself will not be enough to support LE Audio. There will be new specifications that will implement the profiles on top of Bluetooth 5.2 in order to support the different audio use cases. Also Bluetooth 5.2 was released alongside the new LE Audio announcement today (January 6, 2020).
@stephencatterson4672
@stephencatterson4672 4 жыл бұрын
This is interesting but I don't fully understand what you mean by "implement the profiles on top of Bluetooth 5.2 in order to support the different audio use cases"? Does this mean the chipsets that have 5.2 will require a firmware update or something? Thanks
@mohammadafaneh3481
@mohammadafaneh3481 4 жыл бұрын
Basically, the 5.2 specification lays out the foundation for LE Audio, which primarily includes what’s known as Isochronous Channels (needed to support streaming use cases). However, the specifications that define the upper layers which utilize the new features introduced in 5.2 for LE Audio use cases are not available yet and will be released later this year. In order for companies to implement a standard that allows interoperability between devices (e.g. headphones from manufacturer A working with a TV from manufacturer B), they need to abide by a common specification which is what these “Audio Profiles” will provide. So, I believe what you’ll see is that chipset manufacturers will not release a 5.2 Bluetooth chipset that says it’s LE Audio-compatible before these profiles are implemented (don’t quote me on that, though) Keep in mind that the features in 5.2 that provide the support for LE Audio are in fact optional, so not all 5.2 chipsets will ends up spring LE Audio.

@@GaryExplains I see, but still, didn't BT5 come with a big bandwidth improvement over 4? I feel like there was a ton of misinformation when it came out, and I may have fallen for it, but that was the impression I got from back then. As for what I meant about audio, it's the fact that you cannot use stereo audio and the microphone at the same time on most (if not all) headsets; when you use the microphone, as in a call, headsets switch to super low bitrate mono audio which is fine on a phone call, but when you use something with higher quality like Discord or have anything playing in the background you immediately notice how dreadful it sounds.

AptX-HD or AptX LowLatency to view movie or game works with a special AptX dongle but does not work together with mic. Apple use their W1 chip. BT alliance should create a new high quality communication standard over with focus on latency and quality, the bandwidth supports it.

@@GaryExplains Gary, my BT headphones sound quite different when using BT vs wired. The bass and nuances seem to suppress. Since, the BT life is being forced upon us ( I have OP7), I just expect the audio quality of wired and wireless to exactly match, considering quite some time has passed by since the audio jack removal move. Also, latency doesn't seem to improve either, which means everytime I wish to play a game, I need to pull out a stupid dongle and also the charging process of my phone cease to exist. Whatever you said belonged to BT LE and considering our phones don't use it while transmitting audio as you vividly said, I don't see much improvement. I am not any tech critic. I just want tech to evolve at suitable pace which unfortunately often lags due to the bold moves of some companies. That is all.

I have a macbook pro 2012 and Beats solo3 headphones. I think the computer bluetooth chip is 4.0. The computer constantly disconnects from the headphones, which are 4.2. It is so annoying so I have to use the wire. I've seen a video where you can upgrade the computer to 4.2. I wonder if that would fix it. Seems expensive though the part is $150. Also, when I use voice memos on the mac or iphone and I want a quality recording, I have to use a wire. The bluetooth recording sounds like a low quality phone call. Does the Bluetooth tech even exist or will exist to solve that problem of wireless quality recording? Does LE solve this? I wonder if you have any insight. Thanks for the info.

I really would like to know the thought processes here. Why a new codec? We have royalty free codes like opus and (if that is to complex) vorbis. But even more interesting (imo) is if they finally fixed bidirectional audio. The 16 khz Audio quality while talking to someone is barely acceptable in the current standard. If it is such a brilliant codec, can it be used for storing music instead of mp3?
@TheFreezeChill
@TheFreezeChill 4 жыл бұрын
You are comparing to completely different kinds of codecs. One is for storing data, one is for transferring it. When transferring data, especially via a wireless connection, you will always have data loss or incorrect received bits. The codec, in this case LC3, has to compensate for that through error correction. When compressing a file, like when using MP3, you don't have these problems because every bit gets saved the way it is intended to be respectively the medium (HDD, SSD) having it's own error correction.

I think the state of Bluetooth is rather deplorable. While we may see this new version in 3 years it will probably take about 6 years until we see it in more budget friendly phones and headphones. Aside from that there seems no indication that this will fix the latency issue that plagues Bluetooth. Even the AirPods Pro which are considered best in class still have 150 ms, which makes Bluetooth unpractical for videos and games.

I also had a video from CES 2019 about MPEG-H. It also includes the broadcast ideas. But I had to remove the video as there was some content in it that the interviewer (and the company he worked for) felt a bit nervous about.

I didn't know that SBC was around 345Kbps and LC3 will in theory be around the same when received. So, not that I can defintively hear higher fidelity from FLACs and simialar, I just like to, bluetooth is limted in its bandwidth/codec and pointless listening to anything higher. Guess I'll just stick to my wired headphones.
@smile768
@smile768 4 жыл бұрын
Does anyone know of a headphone that has the music files in them? eg in an internal sd card or its own flash memory. I think this would be an advantage over wireless streaming in terms of quality and battery life. You could always have a wireless controller for play, pause, forward, backwards and track metadata etc.

You could strap an old MP3 Player to some headphones xD
@smile768
@smile768 4 жыл бұрын
TheFreezeChill, yes that would be better than Bluetooth headphones. Just wondering if any manufacturer has already done this in a non-diy and smarter way. Flash memory is cheap and the size of the MP3 players is suitably small for incorporation in a headphone.

Cheap Bluetooth audio playback devices are unlikely to use this. Ogg Vorbis is totally free without royalties and outperforms MP3 with 64kbit being barely distinguishable from CD quality sound. Why not use that.
@franklingoodwin
@franklingoodwin 4 жыл бұрын
If you mean 64kbps Ogg Vorbis, it is very distinguishable from CD quality...unless you you have cloth ears. The free tier of Spotify uses 160kps and that sounds like trash

My mini PC (HP) had no Bluetooth. Very easy to get one with USB A interface and-voila Bluetooth! I watched a KZfaq video after searching for my Bluetooth speaker. But after a tiny pause i tried another KZfaq video-NO SOUND! "To save current, Bluetooth 4 shuts Bluetooth down when it is not needed"! What a downgrade!!!

@@mikediezel0923 Since there are no LC3 implementations to tests this is just pure guessing, but in terms of overall quality I guess LDAC is better, but in terms of quality at lower bitrates then LC3 is better. Also, at the moment, LDAC doesn't work over BLE.

Not really helping the quality. SBC codec was on the bottom of the barrel, both AAC and aptx are a lot better, and more exteme audiophiles will go with Sony’s LDAC codec. This is like replacing the crappiest canned food in your pantry with some better canned food. Still, even regular freshly made food still beats canned food, let alone better restaurant-quality food. Almost every single Bluetooth earphone shipping nowadays has more than 1 codec, SBC is only reserved for backup, your devices always choice better codecs, so most people are actually using AAC or aptx.
