Bluewater SAILING passage Majuro to Ailuk Atoll
SAILING the Marshall Islands Two nights to Ailuk Atoll
This week we leave Majuro and travel 240 miles north to Ailuk Atoll, in what we think is a good weather window. It turns out that we time it perfectly so that we have to dodge squalls that come across every hour or so!
Mark and Angie from 'Uno Mas' were about five to ten miles in front of us and missed just about every squall, so if we had started our trip an hour earlier we would have had a much smoother trip!
Once in the shelter of Aur and Maloelap atolls we have some lovely sailing and the squalls lessen as we near Ailuk.
After waiting for good light we negotiate the reef pass and drop the hook in front of Ailuk Village on the South east side of the atoll.
We celebrate with an early night after a very tiring two days!

👩‍❤️‍👨About us :
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Jo and Rob and we are here to share our sailing adventures with you.
In 2016, inspired by the likes of ‘Delos’, ‘Sailing La Vagabonde’ and ‘Gone with The Wynns’, we sold up everything we owned and bought our 40ft, Fountaine Pajot ‘Lipari 41 Evo’ sailing catamaran ‘Double Trouble’. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve.
We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle.
So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles.
We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second.
We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment, so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. You wont find any fishing footage on this channel!
Subscribe now and join us as we continue our salty travels around the world. www.youtube.co...

That's great video of the sailing projects going on in the Marshall Islands. It's fantastic to see what they are building locally using a combination of modern and traditional designs. Here's a link to some more info on the Cargo Proa if anyone wants to know more about that design: harryproa.com/?p=2944

We are new to catamaran sailing so just asking to learn from your experience. Is there a reason you don't forereach/heave to during the squalls so you can let them pass and not wake up the off watch person?

Team Giddyup we heave to if it looks like it’s going to last a few hours . . Otherwise , it’s easier just to reef the sails and keep going. Especially if the wind is in a favourable direction . We generally reef down at night so that we don’t have to wake the person off watch . Enjoy your cat . They are great boats 😊⛵️
