The person who invented this was obviously very smart and intelligent. It's an ingenious device and must help make the job a lot faster than in time gone-by.

Me encantan esos CATETOS de las catenarias, que son trapecios y trapezoides y dan vida a los trenes a través de sus pantógrafos, que vienen a ser como un rombo que se estira para coger la sangre de esa catenaria. Toda una verdadera geometría, trapecio, trapezoide, catenaria, catetos, y el tren que chupa la sangre mediante el pantógrafo, una ingeniería sencilla, pero efectiva.

had no idea the contact trolly wire was braided. you would think it would be more susceptible to fraying by the pantograph. I am pretty sure our North East corridor Pennsylvania cat is solid trolly wire. it's in the process of a high speed upgrade as the old is not self tensioning.

The braid is suspension catenery.

The braided wire is the top carrying wire for the contact wire below....!

I'm electric traction forman in pakistan but it is now closed here for two reasons First they couldn't ugrade system becoz it had completed already its useful life 2nd theft of catenary and contact wires, thieves stolen copper from the section and railway couldn't save its 50 years old asset which british installed in seventies.

At 4:29: The workers hand is in a VERY DANGEROUS place! The glove will not help much..

Mark Brown The glove will worsen things. If it gets snagged on the wire rope it will drag his hand into the machine.

Diesel locomotives are electric; the engine turns an electric generator that powers the traction motors. In fact, the proper name of modern diesel locomotives is diesel/electric. How's that, Mr. Manly Man? (OOOH! Such big muscles!)

French trains are powered mostly by the fissioning of atoms. That's quite a bit more badass than diesel engines.
