Airborne Forces are specialized units that need specialized dedicated equipment and JSC "Rosoboronexport" presents the BMD-4M airborne assault vehicle. The BMD-4M is a tracked amphibious vehicle that incorporates unique characteristics. It is compact and lightweight, can be air-transported and air-dropped from the aircraft and at the same the AAV is equipped with a powerful armament system with two guns of 100 mm and 30 mm caliber. The major caliber boasts the capability of firing not only HEF rounds but guided missiles as well.

No other airborne vehicle have 100 mm cannon with ATGM capability + 30 mm autocannon and 7,62 coaxial machine gun. What this vehicle needs is additional ERA armor pack and grills. And it's ready to fight.

As usual with Soviet/Russian vehicles. Lots of dakka but extremely handicapped by bad optronics, fire control and armor protection.

I wish it incorporates 750 hp engine, APS, ERA Panels at the expense of it's overall weight (even upto 25 tonnes).

The heavier version already exist, it's BMP-3. BMD-4 has to remain light-weight to be air transportable and air droppable ;)

7,62x54mmr, wich is more than enough to chew up infantry. 50 cal is redundant as it has a 30mm autocanon. 50 cal is a "neither here nor there" caliber anyway.

@@henrik_worst_of_sinners fair I thought it was 12,7 mm side cannon. But the more I think about it, it wouldn't make any sense since they already have a 30 mm automatic anti-material cannon.

Looking away from it's unusability, 50 caliber barrel length, but what caliber? 12,7mm? 20mm? 30mm? 127mm? 406mm?

@@norbertaronvarga5361 the .50 caliber is exclusively 12,7mm. Therefore all the cannon diameters you listed don't apply. 406 mm is a WW2 naval gun type battery. It's ludicrous to call that a .50 cal. No the .50 BMG is 12,7mm pistol, rifle, MG all same diameter

i wonder what that big cut out in the rear hull is for? probably for the airdrop equipment though it seems like a huge space sacrifice so their would have to be a very good reason for it on a vehicle that had to shave as much weight as possible and where space is at an absolute prmium even more then other AFVs. also the fact most versions can be airlifted and not actually dropped is interesting. as far as i can tell the Russians are the only people who have an actually viable airdropped IFV (though this if more a fire support vehicle). the best the Germans ever made was the Wesel a tiny fire support vehicle little more then a self-propelled 20mm autocannon or tow launcher (and it had to chose one or the other). and the Americans gave us the terribly flawed M551 Sheridan that tried too hard to be a tank and was insanely complex while also having armour so thin as to be pointless. Its interesting when you think about it as the Hind is also unique in that it is effectively a Flying IFV.

Это великолепные машины, но к сожалению сама концепция ВДВ под вопросом, в связи с совершенством средств ПВО, в том числе переносных. Транспортный самолет просто не зайдет в место высадки десанта. Но если будет решен вопрос с прохождением ПВО и сбросом десанта - такие войска могут перерезать коммуникации, совершить диверсии, глубокие рейды и вообще доставить очень много неприятностей противнику.

What about him? It has a T-90, 125 mm tank gun on a nearly similar, if not identical, chassis to the BMD-4. It also has amphibious capabilities, as well as the ability to drop everything with a crew by special parachutes directly onto the battlefield. It has weak armor, but makes up for it with its excellent maneuverability and high firepower. The Russians call it a "light tank", which it is to some extent.

A few of these could give most Western tanks a bad day. Rapid fire 100mm would be devastating from sides or rear.

The 100mm gun is low velocity and can't fire traditional anti-tank munitions, but it doubles as a launcher for ATGMs.

The Russians are increasingly making such vehicles, where the engine is in the front.. Seriously. They are now literally in war production. Factories work day and night, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And they have dozens, if not hundreds of such factories. They try all the variants. And those that perform well in training and even in combat conditions in Ukraine will enter regular production..

According the video clip the 100mm gun got a firing rate of at least 300 rpm. Not really 10 rpm as stated by the narrator.

That's the 30mm firing at 300 rpm, not the 100mm main gun.

Last gen BMP/BMD have triplet armament: 100mm low ballistic rifled bore cannon/ATGM launcher, 30mm high ballistic cannon and 7,62 mm machine gun. 300 rpm or so must be 30mm cannon.
