I've been looking on Autotrader for something reasonably quick and good on fuel. The BMW 125d seemed to tick all the right boxes and there's no doubting the performance (real world, this would give my old WRX a run for its money and use less than half the fuel). But then I watched a couple of videos and that noise... I'm not anti-diesel (I own two) and I know its no worse than any other brand but I just don't like the sound of 4-cylinder diesel engines. The larger BMW straight six diesels sound good to me (at the expense of MPG).

They are quick and good on diesel but I get your point. I owned a 320d f30 and it sounded horrible. That car sounded like a loud tractor on low rpms.

I drove many 4 and 6 pot diesel and I don't know why, but inside the car in a kickdown phase the 125d for me sounds definitly more like a 6-pot , like an angry animal, i like the sound very much. On low RPM you here the 4 pots: an unpleasant growling, but acceptable and quieter than in other diesel cars.

Its an amazing combination. I love my 125d though on balance my 2008 330d had a better engine. Fuel economy much the same.

How much hp is this? 218? Or 224?

214hp/218ps in the f20 or 220hp/224ps in the f21 facelift I believe, so most likely 214 here depending on the year

@@youraveragejoe1 No, actually F20/F21 doesn't matter for the engine. The non-LCI model has 218 hp and LCI has 224.

I compared my e87 it has around 215hp I think and from 0 to 100 yours is quicker. I have 16 inch wheels and pretty much wheels spin. But then I did 50 to 100 and 4 - 5 km/h less than yours. Maybe because you have automatic and mine is Manuel. So basically if I get 18 - 19 inch wheels I estimate to do 0 to 100 in 6.5 sec

Is this on a straight or slightly downhill road? I dont know why guys cant get your 0-100 time in 6s. Most do like 6.5. Know why?

Most are many years old, have been driven on cheap diesel all their lives and have partially clogged DPF / EGRs ;)

I find the twin turbo 4 cylinder engines a bit pointless personally. A single turbo 3.0d will use similar amounts of fuel in the real world, sounds better, is much smoother and is more reliable.

It’s not a twin turbo it’s a twin scroll turbo

@@simonh870 i have a 116d with the n47 and it has a twin scroll turbo. Same goes for the 120d. I know that because I friend of mine owns one. Even m M135i has a twinscroll haha. I think only the e series had those

nein, heckantrieb bei trockenheit hat bis 350 ps 500 nm iwi sowas eigentlich nie traktionsprobleme, wenns nass ist oder du kleine 15" drauf hast ist das was anderes

was heißt winter, hier in nrw ist kaum was, nur kalt. meiner meinung nach lohnt sich allrad sowieso nur wenn du auswahl zwischen front und allrad hast und 400ps+, heck ist einfach perfekt, allrad wiegt ja auch 90kg und verbraucht mehr, mit heck hast du immer noch genug traktion und macht sowieso mehr spaß wenn der manchmal bisschen weg rutscht

beispiel: der m140i m240i macht 4,6 auf 100 mit heck und 4,4 mit allrad und hat 350 ps, da brauch man sich bei 220 ps gar keine gedanken über allrad machen

Rolling to 5000 rpm is could be bad for the engine? I have a 16’ 120d then i tried it, but my heart was hurt. Its a six manual.

Diesel cars are not made to high revs.. better under 3k in daily drive

@@Mr330d if you want to break it rev it, but the maximum torque is above 1.5k to 2.5k-3k

@@alexandrgr oh no I totally agree with you I think it’s silly BMW and Mazda making their diesels able to Rev to 5,500rpm . I very rarely need to go over 3,500-3,800rpm in my Diesel even overtaking

@@Mr330d yep, my dad has an opel corsa 1.3 cdti 90hp and we don't rev it over 2.6k.. it really pulls well above this range!!
