One thing that the guy failed to mention that is a neccessity (in my opinion) is speccing the Adaptive M Sport Suspension. It completely transforms the car and firms up nicely when you stick it into sports mode. Comfort mode is greatly improved too. Without this option being added, ALL X Drive models come with SE shocks and springs (including the M Sport version) which make the car sit really high and also makes the handling soft and floaty with a lot of body roll. If this isn't specced, I'd highly recommend upgrading to the AC Schnitzer suspension kit (springs and shocks) which nicely lowers the car and vastly improves the handling without affecting the ride quality much. The ACS stuff is BMW approved and can be fitted by most BMW dealers.

I own a 435d from new. 0-60mph 4.8 sec After 15,000 miles averaging 34 mpg all round. Still on original set of tyres all round. Now 18 months old engine is loosening up. Has every extra, eats the miles and affordable to run. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this model.

Guys these cars are absolute weapons.. I've got a 335d xdrive and it's brilliant. Mineral grey and red leathers set it off.. two things it needs to make it even more better is a dms remap which I've had done and eibach pro kit springs to stiffen the ride in corners n to lower the car to msport height as it being an xdrive is set high

I was close to getting one of these, I really wanted it to be the car for me. But it was just lacking the tech that I wanted. Ended up with another A5, this time the B9. No regrets.

I’ve always been against diesel cars but think I need to get one of these with the 435d and Xdrive delete, maybe even a 335d Xdrive Touring for the grandad factor. Light mapping, light mods, get the suspension sorted, ultimate troll mobile. I’m not into styling mods, if I have an M4 I have it, if I don’t I want to troll the fuck out of an M4 while looking like a 420d. Although I’d probably always take the M3.

This isn’t by any means in the same lane as an m4 obviously but this car is very powerful off the lane not much can leave it. They don’t give you the m suspended for me personally the normal suspension is to soft for the speeds you can do. Can’t afford to run an m4 best to start here. I’m was getting about 30-35 mpg normalish driving 20mpg from pushing it which isn’t bad for 4.7 to 60

Adding to the list of mandatory options to pick would be the Adaptive M suspension as you can't get the standard M Sport one with the X-Drive drivetrain, i've seen a lot of 4-series reviews complain of excessive body roll in the corners without this on stock suspension and lets face it, if you're throwing money at the fastest non-M 4-series you'll want it to handle as well as it can.

435d is the best car i`ve ever had and I do recommend it. Also I recommend M-sport suspension but many options like pro nav, heated seats... that`s standard.

As an American, I am torn between getting a used 2014 435i for around $25k, vs a brand new 2018 Ford Mustang for $35k with full warranty. What concerns me is the long term life of the 435i. My buddy has a 335i and already needs a whole new front suspension and a few other repairs at 100,000 miles. I've never owned a car that would need that much work. How has your 435i been for long life and reliability been?

Can do better explaining the spec. Heated leather and electric seats standard on msport. Xdrive only on 435d. You can't RWD on a 435d.

The HK system isn't a patch on a Mk7 Golf Dynaudio system. It's unbelievable!

What's folk getting in these stop start driving? I've got a 435d convertible and I'm getting 18/19 mpg driving like miss daisy is this normal for these cars? Convertible is heavier than coupe so it's worse on mpg.

And these 3.0L 6 cylinder are super reliable, you can remap yours, remap the gearbox and a little more bits here and there, you'll get 380hp and 700Nm!!! A stock M4 will have trouble getting away from you and yours as a daily driver will be much better. Gas mileage is better and 700Nm of torque is a pleasure to drive around without pushing the engine for revs.

Park the m4 next to this and your see a major difference, no comparison in looks.the m4 is a beauty.

i really love this car. in terms of looks i would deff reccomend a 440ibackbox and then combine it with a stage 1 tune and it will eat an m4 for breakfast.

Xdrive or not and why?

My 435d xdrive is mapped to 385 bhp, put it in sports plus and I do more drifting then I ever did with my 335bhp 330d real wheel drive car. no to mention launches to 60 in 3.6 secs

Its ridiculous to compare a 435d car to an M4 as they are completely different cars. 0-60 may be close but that's it and not what a M car is about. Its mechanically 80% different to a 'normal' 4 series. Saying that, for you, I agree the 435d is a far better all rounder. I just sold my M4 which was great but thirsty/noisy and a bit one dimensional and not ideal as a daily driver, so for your purposes I would make the same choice as its better more of the time. Nice car...

With his X-Drive complaints, he surely would've been more suited to a 430D with a stage 1 tune and similar power - as well as being significantly cheaper.

Still watching and this will be my next car, dark grey, full sound system, black vossen wheels, killer..

I have had an 435d since they came out around 6 years ago. Here are my dislikes: the car is way too heavy at over 1600kg. It can’t compete with Quattro around damp roundabouts etc - it is biased 60:40 to the rear so you will kick the back end out all over the place, whilst the audi will power ahead. It is fast off the line but not from particularily from a rolling start; most x5/x6/x7, Audi 3.0tdi, even things like a golf 2.0d and many other cars can pretty much keep up once rolling - not sure why given its ridiculous torque figure - I suspect it has something to do with its weight! this isnt a racing car by any stretch - due to its weight and size!! It is not too easy to parallel park, as it is easy to damage those very expensive alloys. Things I like; I can easily get 44/45mpg, it is lovely to cruise around in, well built, the steering lacks a little feel but is very relaxing to use - again it is not a sports car! Overall I am rather pleased with it and shall keep it for a few more years and trade it in for an ev (once the range issue and number of charging places have been sorted).

You can try and make it look like an M4 all day. Fact is......it isn’t one. An extra 200 pound a month is not really relevant unless you can’t afford it. The 435d is a lovely looking car, but don’t kid yourself. Side by side it’s night and day in my opinion. Enjoy the car for what it is.

Great car. Bloody sloppy driving though. Holding the wheel two fingered or single handed at 12, 5 or 7 o'clock or not even at all. Though that sloppy driving will all change if he suddenly has to get hold of the wheel and ends up stuck in a ditch.

Nice, but slightly odd car the 435d XDrive IMO.....goes but doesn't handle like a sports car, nice looking but no cachet of an M car. Doesn't need AWD most of the time, not much quicker than a 420d in real world...it's almost like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist

It's a diesel. I don't care how fast it is. What features it has. It's just.. wrong. My first cars were diesel XUD Peugeots and we loved disconnecting the waste gates and turning the fuel up, but at the end of the day, it's a noisy knocking smokey diesel. I just can't go back. Petrol is for the true motorist. Diesel is for economy hatchbacks.
