In episode 7, heat treat the valve covers, reinstall them with new gaskets, install new spark plugs and bead blast various components to a like-new condition! All in a day's work!

Have just found this channel and watched the entire series to date! I have followed @M539 Restorations from the start and can see the similar vibe between both channels. Love seeing these old V12 resurrected. Keep up the excellent work and videos, don't forget to adjust that timing chain! Subscribed and shared. Cheers 👍

Detailed notes at 2:48 mark. Love these. Will be copying you on this! Great work. Thanks so much for taking the time to document all of this. I haven't had a chance to dig into the engine bay of our '93 850ci as I'm collecting parts...but when I do, I feel that I'll be fluent with knowing what goes where! Excellent work and documentation!!

@@stevesbmwbarn5706 I just wish you be extra careful : like to cover those engine bay right after you opened them both would be much better to protect parts inside from any tight or small debris produced (since you worked around them with grinding tools, grinding paper, scrapping brush or bird poo garage seelings etc..) if any of those small particles might fall insight will force you to open the engine again latter and go even more deeper to rectify rods, crankshaft rebalanced, all pistons heads rectified, rings replaced and polishing valves or cams, otherwise a cool series.. ;0)

Thanks for showing me all the pain areas and tricky bits. Always been intimidated to dig into my '91 850i, exactly because of some of the issues you've ran into (like your trouble with the hydraulic pump). Thanks so much for taking the time to film it all, it's a lot of extra work. I wish you luck with your old 8er, they can really hurt your wallet!

Really enjoying these videos and watching an old BMW being brought back to life. Great to see JKC Coleraine mentioned - one of the best BMW garages out there. I've bought two cars from them in recent years and they are always fantastic to work with.

The plug socket is like something off a lawnmower tool kit.😂😂 It did the job to be fair. The sandblaster looks like a handy thing to have. Keep up the good work.

Hey Steve, love the channel. Just curious of your background with BMW and how you obtained your knowledge of the E31 platform. We’re you a tech at one time? Are you currently an auto technician? Love the content.

Great job!! I have seen that you recently bought the elastic hoses 32411137562 and 32411137729. I'm also repairing my e31. I need to buy these parts too. I have a question - are these parts of good quality (made in Germany) and if you would recommend buying them. Previously I bought 37131159539 and 37131159544, the quality of these parts was very bad. /made in china/ Are you planning to replace the O-rings in the heater? I am interested in this because my windshield is fogging up :( When are you planning the next episode? Cheers

Is it safe doing that media blasting outside? Would have thought a cabinet would help mess control and would possibly help waste as well?

Can you go over how to remove the transmission dipstick? There's supposed to be a lock.

8:20 from my experience this sand like media is much too aggressive on aluminium and leaves a very rough surface that will oxidize to even worse then before after a short while. Glass bead is better, obviously vapour honing is best. Not mean to be a troll as I am enjoying your content very much. I have a e31 also that needs some TLC so this is very informative to me.

Appreciate the feedback. The glass bead I find is actually not super aggressive, if anything it seems to take quite some time to get a decent result on certain areas. But point taken, no doubt there are less aggressive medias I could have used, the finish is actually nice and smooth to the touch, but I may take some fine grit sandpaper to the manifolds to remove any pits and valleys and smooth things out even more.
