Would it be possible to press out the old bearings from the belt tensioner pulleys and rebuild them? Or failing that, find something on the aftermarket that fits but doesn't have an OEM BMW style price? Yes, you seem to have a lot of luck with BMWs so far, and all of it bad. If that car was a Datsun 510 Bluebird, the body would be rusted to crap but the engine and drivetrain would be fine, probably with an original alternator and head gasket. So much for the Ultimate Driving Machine!
