► BMW E90 radiator replacement isn't the most common job you will have to complete on the car, but one you might have to do as it gets up there in age. BMW cooling systems have always been the butt of many jokes, but when it comes to the N52 engine in the E9X generation of BMW 3-series, it is less of an issue.
Radiator replacement on the BMW N52 isn't a very difficult job; it's something that with this video, most anyone can tackle at home in their garage or driveway with few specialty tools. Mike Hidalgo, FCP Euro's Professional DIY'er and owner of multiple BMWs, takes us through the step-by-step process of replacing the radiator on this 2006 BMW 330i.

Straight to the point without being extra or complicated. I actually thought removal was gonna be time consuming and a pain to do. Removing mine this evening after work and ordering my radiator now.

Considering its a BMW I though this was going to be way more complicated. Ordered my rad and should be fixed by the weekend. Ive been limiting my traveling since I don't want to overheat the engine.

There’s a bunch of other videos but this one is by far the best. Keep in mind that depending on the year of your car it might have some different steps and your just gonna have to figure it out but this shows you enough to where it should be fairly easy .

At 11:30 with old radiator out is a great point to clean your A/C Condenser. Use your favorite degreaser such as Purple Power, Simple Green etc. I use Total Awesome (yellow spray bottle) from $ Tree because is a little more plastic friendly. I spay on the back size and through the grill in the front let it sit for a min or two, rinse with shower settling on garden hose nozzle from back and front. Try to keep it on the aluminum only. Repeat a few times. You will be amazed at how much better your A/C will perform. Continue with radiator installation.

I'm curious as e90 post has a walk-through that specifically says to leave closed the radiator cap and bleed screw during this process. I also agree with a 2 bleed procedure, I had an issue with my own that needed a 2nd venting

The two steel brackets that you took off at 5:20 are missing on my 2006 E90. Do you know the part number for those? Does FCP carry them? Also, quite a few of the screws were missing from the larger cover that goes over this. Is there a screw and clip kit available?

Trying to replace my OEM radiator in '06 E90 w/ auto and the BMW OEM replacement radiator (17-11-7-562-079) has the right side control sleeve port blocked with a molded cap, otherwise radiator is identical to original. Am I supposed to knock this molding out to place both control sleeves? or maybe one one control sleeve, with drain plug is needed now?

For BMW x3 2006 3.0 what is best brand for radiator? Nissens or TQR?
@peteytabil7896
@peteytabil7896 2 жыл бұрын
Hello FCP Euro, such a helpful video. I have just received the Nissen Radiator for my 08’ BMW 128i Automatic. My OEM radiator had only one long drain plug on the driver side. However the replacement Nissens radiator has two drain plugs, one on the driver side and the other on the passenger side. Since I have an Automatic, I do need the long plug on the driver side, and im assuming the passenger side stays the same as well thats already equipped with it? or do i need to replace that plug with a shorter one? thank you FCP Euro
@huntereskew
@huntereskew 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Petey. I have the exact same question about the Nissens radiator. I'm wondering if I need to swap the installed drain plugs with either of the two extras for my '07 328xi automatic. It's not obvious what length drain plugs come pre-installed so I'm not sure if either of them need to be swapped (which I would rather not do if at all possible). Did you figure out the answer to your question?
@peteytabil7896
@peteytabil7896 2 жыл бұрын
@@huntereskew hello hunter yes, after doing some research, and more research, the passenger side has to be swapped out with the long plug that it came with, with the bag. The one currently in there is the short plug. I have replaced and installed it yesterday, did the whole bleeding procedure, and everything seems to be working good, with no signs of leakage.

10:22 so I’m having a real hard time trying to remove this hose and I’m scared breaking the hose connector part or anything else, it is a new radiator I’m replacing so I was wondering if it’s just fine for me to break the radiator then remove the piece stuck from there or if there’s a better easier solution, any help is appreciated

Hi Ruben, the idea remains the same. The N51 engine vehicles use a slightly different-looking version as it has an integrated sensor, otherwise the same process and number of connections for both transmissions.

I noticed it has a bleeder screw on it so do you do anything with the bleeder screw to make sure that you topped it off and removed all the air out of the system
@fcpeuro
@fcpeuro Жыл бұрын
We do not open the bleeder screw when Vacuum filling the system. If you were to do it manually using the electronic pump, then you could use the bleeder screw to speed things up a bit.

@@fcpeuro but I'm not understanding I thought you would have to lift up one to remove the air so it'd be all nothing but coolant and turning on the heater on one it will help to also circulate the coolant I used to have a E46 but I'm pretty sure it's not the same so I bought my first E90 no longer own the E46 I watch your video one more time just to make sure I do it right I'm removing my radiator due to an elbow leak I guess the elbow on the upper radiator has a small leak area thanks for your information
