I’m my experience I would suggest drilling a hole and installing a fan onto it if you live a state with very hot summers. The heat conducted through the metal plate might not be enough (esp if your ekps is located in the trunk)

I have heat sinks on my old controller module with a small fan to keep it cool, keep in mind I am running larger turbo's and a 550 litre an hour fuel pump. never had a problem.

Do we know why this happens as these cars age? Is the fuel pump working harder because of a clogged fuel filter, dirty injectors, ect? I'm going to order an EKP cooling kit w/ fan for my 08 128i. My car is new to me. I'm getting poor city gas mileage 13-14mpg under spirited driving (I'm not sure if that's normal or even if my car has been tuned). Overheating EKPM3 is shutting my car off on hot days, but I suspect another issue exists.

Does the EKPS degrade and start overheating by itself? Or is it because the fuel pump starts to wear, causing higher current draw, which then stresses the poorly designed EKPS?

My understanding is that all sensors tend to fail, it's a matter of time. The only sensor （coolant temperature/fan switch）I've seen so stable is from Honda Civic (2008).

Does the pump start pumping the fuel when the ignition is on or when the engine is turning?

I just replaced my fuel control module after my e90 kept randomly shutting off. Replacing it seemed to fix the stalling issue this far however now it doesn't always start on the first try. Now if I go into a store and come back to it 20 minutes later. It won't start until I lock the doors and let the car reset. Any idea what could be the issue now?

@@brandi6087 Yeah, that was the problem. I bought one off eBay which came with a whole new problem so I sent it back and bought one from a junk yard and it's been good every since.

Hello so I have a 2014 335i Code 481b03 popped up tonight. I was driving around town, only when I arrived home and sit in the car it popped up. Car just won’t start now. I’ll try again in the morning. Would buying a new fuel pump module fix my issue?

The 481b03 code could be caused by a failing EKPM but can't say with 100% certainty. There was also a recall for the LPFP on some 2014 models. for the 335i the effected production dates are OCT 07, 2013 - MAR 05, 2014. I suggest you check to see if your vehicle in on the recall list before replacing the EKPM.

The red and blue wires coming from ekp module on mine short when ignition is on is that normal ? I thought red was positive and blue negative ? I have crank no start😢

If I were to buy the same module that's in my car (335d LCI) with the same part number, do I still have to recode the module? I neither have a program nur a PC to do it. Thank you in advance!

im gettin cel when fuel is low, ground short in stage 2 lpfp.power is shut from the ac and makin weird noises under hood. is this cause my ekpm3 is goin bad or the pump is drawin to much makin it go bad? iv never pushed the car(335i). and its super hot here this summer

Hi Dave, unfortunately all EKPM modules require coding, even modules from the dealer. The modules do have default code in them so the car will run without coding but not properly. The vehicle specific parameters need to be loaded for the EKPM to run with proper performance. Coding the EKPM is very easy to do. 2014 f30 bmw 320i Xdrive today I got a p0087 (fuel rail system, pressure to low) code again and car went into limp mode (with a full tank of gas) I was able to drop the car off at a shop and they will have a look in the morning, they are thinking “very likely” the lpfp. But has anyone else experienced these issues and figure what work for them? My best guess is Low pressure fuel pump or fuel pump control module The message that pops up is “Fuel Supply, drive moderately….etc”

What kind of scanners ik obd2 but do you have to have a specific professional scanner to program the module and battery for when you doba battery change

I think it will fit many models, but has to be re-programmed after installation, which is a pain/high cost for DIYs.

So this why my 328i 2013 model when it’s hot; the Fuel Supply(drive moderately) comes on and it shuts down. I sit on the side of the road for 5 minutes and it starts up. I just ordered my new fuel pump control module. I just replaced the battery and new fuel pump and it still shut down on a hot day. Now I know the issue. Thanks

I don’t think this is my issue, my car stalls only when I get to a quarter of a tank , as soon as I add more fuel, it starts and runs normal

Either the float on your fuel pump is sticking causing an incorrect reading or it’s inside your cluster.

just FYI, if you live in a hot state, Florida… Texas.. Arizona .. etc, it will still overheat in the summer. Esp if your car is a darker color. I installed a small cpu fan on mine and the issues went away.

I have a 2010 750i and have been experiencing this problem. I’ve replaced all 3 fuel pumps. How likely is it that the fuel pump module is my problem?

MY CURRENT UPGRADED LPFP PULLS IN 36 amps which is double then stock. Will this hold the new pump I have ?

36 Amps is at the upper limit of the control modules capabilities. Can you tell me the make and model number of the fuel pump so I can look up the specs? How are you measuring the current? DMM?

@@et3designinc.999 sure the pump is a 2.5 PRESICION RACEWORKS LPFP for my n55. Online it says it will pull up to 36 amps I did not configure those numbers by myself. I do need a solution though.

@@elvispjetrovic Looks like it uses the Walbro 535 F90000295 pump. The ET3 Design module should be able to drive this pump.

A fuel pump does not need a control unit. Can't I just bypass the unnecessary electronics? Is there anything stopping me from doing that? It's a BMW, so I'm used to dozens of codes being on at any given time. Is there any greater problem than throwing codes? Also, wouldn't a bad controller give a code? I don't have a code for this, but my new fuel pump with good fuse and relay don't work every time I hit the ignition. It works SOMETIMES. This car hasn't started in 6 months. I don't understand how people can deal with BMWs. New coil packs, new plugs, new injectors (less than 1000 miles), new fuel pump (0 miles), new MAF (0 miles, had a code for that), good quality battery two years old.

They have 2 fuel pumps did you replace the high pressure pump or low pressure? I am under the impression The EKP module regulates the pressure under load.
