#bmwi3 My first time charging away from home, and my first experience of a lower journey. Some good, some stressful! Plus active cruise and lane control, how does it work, and is it useful? What was the cost V's petrol?

On the return journey at Membury, I would have used the type 2 connection and had my noodles. In half an hour you would have added 22 miles of range, giving you more options to either swap to DC at Membury after your food or move on.

I good idea, but as a novice I didn't think of that! I miss those noodles even more now 😂

Seriously great video and glad you gave that little i3 a chance!! 🤣 TBH it’s a fantastic car when you know its limits! Love that you got the gold, and lodge interior! It’s special really!! Like a concept car but it works really well!! 👍✅ Big heavy EV’s are not the future! But the i3 could be!! Or something like it..? I bought an i3s in January this year and have loved every minute with it! Keep it for its simplicity! When ever are you going to find a car built with carbon firbre at this price? 🤔

It really is superb! As a commuter car, for me it's unbeatable. It literally cost pennies to drive to work now, in a pre-warmed or cooled car before I get into it! But for reliably travelling long distance on a regular basis, as you've said, that's not what the i3 is designed for 👍

Great car. Stilllooks like something out of the future, also made like it. Keep it.

Odd to think the early cars are over a decade old! It's not often a pruloduction car is so close to the concept. A girl at work said it looks like it's from 2050 🤣

The color of this car is beautiful. Thinking of buying one.

Thanks! It really pops in the sun, and suits the 'concept car' style of the car 😁👍

Membury is very poor and I did the same thing of approaching from the wrong side, and yes Tesla's not open there. But Reading services are much better. Worth having the tesla app on phone so you can see which ones are open. I've been drivign i3's for 4 years now - it does get better with experience etc. BTW I never ever use eco-pro plus. and usually cruise at 68 or so

Thanks, it's all a learning curve. I stopped at Membury out of habit, as I normally break there on the same journey when I'm on a motorcycle. But if I take the EV it'll be a more modern services 👍

i have been on many trips from St Albans down to weymoth, Folkstone, Brighton, and i have had zero issues with chargers on the way.
@jamesvdv0Ай бұрын
I do agree that every MSA should have at least 20 - 30 chargers. My i3 (only 94Ah battery ~120 miles range) has the REx option. With the high cost of public charging, I tend to run it on petrol on long trips nowadays as the equivalent cost of petrol "charging" is currently 59p/kWh.
@MrDesmonickАй бұрын
I agree, and yes, for longer trips the REX makes sense 👍

Zap maps and a better route planner will help you a lot also there are more Tesla supercharger now open to all brands of ev, with the Tesla superchargers you know there will chargers that will be working.

Cheers, it's a big learning curve for an EV novice! 😂

Mate, your stream-of-consciousness blithering at the shenanigans that other road users get upto is like being inside my own head....😂

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I cut the worst of it out! So many 'C Bombs' that apparently you can't say on KZfaq? 🤣

The way you can toss stuff in the back so easy thanks to the suicide doors makes me wonder about reviewers who talk about it being a negative, it's not like most people are going to have passengers back there all the time.

I do like it, but, in tight spaces it can be a pain. But it's so cool I can forgive it 😁

Nice video. I'm up and down the M4 quite a bit in my i3 and I don't use Membury at the moment because it's behind the times on EV charging. Those 'legacy' ex Ecotricity chargers can be unreliable too. Also Gridserve are very expensive at the moment. On your journey I'd have used Reading westbound where the Tesla chargers are open to all makes and much cheaper. Unfortunately they don't have them eastbound so the alternative is Tesla Wokingham. (I paid 44p off peak on Saturday evening)I'm not sure you'd have made Upton on Severn without another very quick stop but you'd have saved a bit of money and wouldn't have to worry about queues.

Thanks for the tip, I'll be sure to try that if I use the i3 for that trip again! It's all a learning curve for me, as I normally charge on a 3 pin granny charger at home. At least we all see it, warts and all!

I went for a long drive yesterday and tried the cruise control for the first time, and my mileage dropped a lot.
@MrDesmonick2 ай бұрын
I didn't actually try it without. My whole journey was pretty much on the active cruise. It would be interesting to see what difference it makes?

The biggest problem without any doubt is the unique tire size, they will always be EXPENSIVE!
@MrDesmonick2 ай бұрын
Absolutely! The tyres are a similar price to the fronts on my Porsche 911! Rediculous! 🙄

can you post a link to the i3 phone holder? Thanks!
Most of the audio is very poor. Need a separate microphone if you are going to do this. Also don’t ever stop at a services with only 2 chargers. There are plenty of hubs with 13-16 chargers. Gloucester north and south.
@MrDesmonick2 ай бұрын
I have a separate mic, but it's fitted to a crash helmet. The audio isn't great. As for the chargers, it was a novices first longer distance drive. So I just planned to stop at services according to mileage. Membury is where I normally stop on a motorcycle on the same journey, so I guess it was a natural point for me?

Too much pissing around with stopping and charging.
@MrDesmonick14 күн бұрын
Only because I went to a crap services, as I've now been told 😂 Otherwise it was no longer than an ICE car, just charging when I stopped for a leak or lunch.
