Huge props for getting the manual. A real BMW driver right there, no instagram automatic-pussy behind the steering wheel. I could never understand how any sane person could order a small sporty BMW like an M4, M3 or M2 as a DCT.

Haha cheers man, I have no regrets going with the manual, it suits the car so well - Everyone who comes across it (even DCT owners) seem to love it and wish they’d done the same!

Strange, as a ruff guess 90 % of F80, F82 and F87 in the UK seem to have been specced with DCT. Maybe because most people drive manual in the UK as soon as they pass their driving test. So to us driving manual is not as big deal as Americans like to make out.
@JOPOV

That probably plays a part in it for sure. Not to mention DCT is faster, more economical and easier to live with day to day.

@@Mac_F87 I think it's because, unlike the 1st comment, people realise that you're not less of a "car person" or a "pussy" for getting an auto. And that autos are technically superior in every way. For some the fun of a manual simply doesn't make up for the downsides.

LMAO 01:35 is when you magically teleported to southern Italy and the speed limit seemed to disappear all together. Props to getting the manual though, it's so much more engaging than the "auto" box. Drove a manual down here in the south of Italy where road rules are non existent and (once away from built up areas) i got to open her up. The one i drove had 18's with a good amount of rubber (fronts were 255/40r18 and rears 275/40r18 iirc) which made me feel more planted. The back end didn't seem as skittish as it would on the lower profiles meaning i could throw it into a corner harder and not worry about losing traction in the rear. The one let down i have with these cars (and cars in general) is this trend of all metal, no rubber which makes the ride quality suck in comparison.
@JOPOV
@JOPOV 2 жыл бұрын
Southern Italy is a quick trip after all 😉 Manual is a no brainer for a “drivers car” like the M2, I’m sure the DCT is great, especially on track, but I’d be bored eventually! Good point regarding the wheel/tyre sizes - I’m currently running the standard wheels/tyres but I will be going up to 255/275 section PS4S’ next time they need changing. I’d love to run some 18” wheels too but can’t justify the cost at the moment, maybe if I start to track this car I will buy a set!

@@JOPOV Yeah, as my mechanic has on a sign in his garage... "REAL DRIVERS HAVE 3 PEDALS" lol. A good thing to keep an eye out for are the OEM 513m rims from an m3, they're a direct swap, 18 inch with all the right offset and you can get more rubber on them as long as your brakes are "stock" (blue calipers). They pop up now and again and are generally significantly cheaper than buying aftermarket and look like the car should have come from factory with them fitted.
@JOPOV
@JOPOV 2 жыл бұрын
@@dodo19923 Hahaha, your mechanic is not wrong there! Yes, I have seen a few M2’s with 513m’s, they look great but seem very rare to find, at least in the UK! If I could get my hands on some of them for a good price I definitely would!

great video. I ended up going for an m140i for the longer journeys I typically take when seeing family but the more I see videos on the M2 the more I want that "raw" experience it offers vs the very powerful (get their without knowing power) of the b58. Is that a standard exhaust?
@JOPOV

Thank you - The M140i is a good all round car, can’t say I’ve driven a B58 equipped car but from what I’ve seen/read it’s an excellent engine. Yeah, the exhaust is standard in this video - I’ve since had it modified by ModStock though, sounds even better!

@@STRampo500 It just reduces the travel between the dead space and the bite point of the clutch pedal, I found that as standard there was quite a lot of “dead space” if you know what I mean. I’d definitely recommend an M2, very raw and engaging car but it has the right balance of creature comforts.

How does the M2 compare to the M235i? Looking into a 235i soon
@JOPOV
@JOPOV 3 жыл бұрын
Straight line performance wise, there’s not much in it… However, if you’re after a more dynamic and engaging experience then the M2 is in a different league. The M235i’s are a lot of car for the money and a better daily driver, especially with the ZF8 speed, like I used to have. But yeah, the M2 is much more sure footed, controllable and “raw” - Not to mention the road presence! The interior, albeit very similar is surprisingly much nicer in the LCI M2 (LCI clocks, dashboard layout, dry carbon trim and touch screen iDrive with Apple CarPlay) and makes a big difference! In terms of running costs, you do pay the “M tax” for aftermarket parts. The road tax is substantially higher for post April 2017 cars and the tyres are understandably more expensive. But in terms of MPG, servicing and insurance costs the differences are negligible!

@JOPOV
@JOPOV 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It’s relatively heavy in comparison to any other BMW/hot-hatch I’ve driven, even in Comfort mode, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. It suites the characteristics of the car and the overall feel from the firm suspension/wide tyres etc… Put it in Sport/Sport+ it’s even heavier, but feels better for it in my opinion, I guess it’s all subjective, you’d have to get a test drive at some point to be sure!
