just got an M4, with engine in efficient driving mode the engine does sound quite muted however with the engine in sport or sport plus mode it does sound awesome.

I just wanted to say that it looks absolutely stunning. And when he parked it next to the old one, it was even more apparent. As for the noise, well get used to it folks. These are the engines of the future. Even Formula 1 has small turbo charged engines that sound like vacuum cleaners.

He's right, the exhaust is a small price to pay for performance. And you can always change the exhaust

Fantastic video Mat. I've done my 19's twice now on Euro Tunnels Shuttle They weren't the least bit interested. I drive everyday on the M20 and had the same tyre noise until I change the tyres. Michelin PSS's are very noisy.

For all American viewers, take a look at the bit of the video on the gas station, 1.4 € per liter, that is 1.9 $ per L or 7.2$ per gallon, that's why we drive 2l diesels and consider 3l to be a big engine.

BMW is amazing. This car can go on a 900 mile roadtrip with a lap of the nordschliefe which is one of the most demanding tracks in the world as well as go fast on the autobahn, and carve up mountain roads. Despite this it still will keep two passengers happy....... this shows that the car is realiable and fun! And you can beat it up all day and drive 500 miles home and still be fine. Amazing

People really need to stop bitching bout the sound it's really not that bad

It just needs it's pitch to shift slightly higher as your reaching max revs that's all just a little shift and then the drop into the next gear and it would be fine but the note doesn't really change or at least from the videos I've seen it doesn't sound like the note changes very much as you go up the rev range which is a shame because everyone loves that tantalising bit as you rag something through the gears and just as you go to change you get that extra noise near/on redline!

the exhaust note changes quite a lot during the break in...after the 1000 miles it should sound much better, also it would start making cracking noise etc.

everyone comparing the c63 to this car needs to realise that car is now dated compared to this, eventually amg will also have to switch to turbo charged engines to reduce emissions, it wasn't bmw's choice to make the change, this is a benchmark car because it can do all the previous car could do and more with little down sides and lower emissions at the same time, bmw has worked with what they were allowed to do extremely well

Why were the words "God" and "Jesus Christ" censored?

It really is amazing how much people complain about the noise and trash the new M3/M4 because of it. Yes, it doesn't have the wonderful NA high revving sound, but why does the sound alone dictate the validity of ///M? You CAN improve the stock sound of the M4 through that BMW approves and don't void warranty (just like the M235). Its never going to be a high revving V8, but look at the progress ///M has made with this car. The engineering and technology runs circles around the E92. 99% of the people have never driven it, and I put money on the fact that if most did and compared it directly to the E92, they would realize that the ///M car is not lost, but better than ever. Whatever, haters gonna hate.

Mat you should have given me a shout that you was doing 1000 mile in the M4 and i would have given you a proper passenger ride on the ring.

exhaust note, no ones talks reliability which is the single most important aspect of owning a sports car. Whether you lease or own, when you get behind the wheel everything needs to work unless you enjoy sipping expresso at the service center. New gen M3 & M4's are well made, sorted & reliable for what it does. Buyer beware: do not follow BMW interval schedule on lifetime fluids.

It's not fake engine sound. The sounds are from the engine, but because of the excellent sound proofing; they are picked up by microphones in the engine bay and played over the speakers. Is your voice fake when you talk on the phone?

I'm a really big m car fan. But man...this car doesn't really sound like a $60k-$80k sports car....

The M4 engine inside doesnt sound as horribly artificial as it does in the video, it really doesnt. It is slightly overcompensating, but nothing to harsh.

roadwork = welcome to Germany! It's pretty hard to drive 200km without encountering roadwork on the Autobahn
