Howdy . in this episode you can see how I change the Lithium Ion battery to this superb BMW M5 F90, a very simple and educational work. On this M5 the original battery failed because the car was inactive for long periods of time and because of this the battery had several discharge cycles up to 0 volts , and yet the battery still had the ability to maintain current and voltage, but the intelligent management system inside it no longer accepts these cells which once they reach 0 volts need to be replaced even if after charging they have returned to normal

Little fun fact you can put a regular agm battery just change the charging profile in the coding settings.

Hi, what are your thoughts on replacing the AGM from a standard G30 to a Li-Ion battery for weight reduction. Thanks

You can't change, you can't put the Li-Io battery on your car because it will go into protection, the charge on the car with AGM reaches up to 15 v and Li-Io over 14.8 volts goes into protection and imagine that you drive quietly and suddenly the battery goes in protection as if someone had removed the terminal, there are great chances to fry a few modules :))

@@MOvidiu I was thinking that you can tell the ECU/Battery manag. system with ISTA+ that the battery is Li-Ion, and therefor the hole process of charging the battery will adapt to the Li-Ion battery charging requirements :), this retrofit will work better for a 530e, that has a lot of extra weight on the back axle. Thanks

Hello, yes , but the car will still give you the recharge battery message until you will register the battery and the charging program and power consumption will be for a used one

These batteries are supposed to last like 8 to 10 years and or 100000 miles , what year is your car why did you have to switch ??

Did you use a lithium appropriate battery tender ?? and what year is your car ??? I have a 2016 m3 with the same battery that's why iam asking curious if mine will start to fail soon

@@pauldangelo1941 I don't remember what year was that car manufactured I think 2018, is not and wasn't my car , Your f80 battery is similar to this but is different

@@pauldangelo1941 I just replaced mine on my M3 2015 .. it was kind of my fault I have been parking it for winter and not keeping it on a trickle charge which you’re supposed to do to make the battery last if you don’t use the car often.🤦🏻‍♀️ it cost me $2500 but I learned my lesson

Hi, I have the same issue in my F92 M8 Competition, but apart from notification on the screen, there are no symptoms of battery consumption. For example the car wasn't turned on for 2 months and after that there's no problem with the engine start. New battery is about 1400 euros and changing it just to get rid of the notification seems a bit unnecessary... do you have any idea if there is a possibility to regenerate the battery? Also I see previous battery in your M5 had number 7 857 287 and you have changed it to 7 857 288. In my M8 sits 8 092 859. Do you think I can change it to 7 857 287?

You have to unplug the negative first..

I agree. By removing the positive cable first, by doing so, you may ground the tool to ground and cause a huge spark. Not good.

its a Bmw diagnostics softwere called ISTA, can be installed on almost every laptop

After registering the battery, does the sleep mode deactivate itself, this is not visible in the video?

The sleep mode is deactivated automatically when you open one door or do something else to the car
