In this video I will take you through the repair of what is a quite common issue that affects the FRM modules of BMW and Mini... they are prone to have the data in the processor corrupted due to low voltage... usually when a flat battery!
A quite common issue, that was the first time I came across, lol
There is plenty of info and other videos out there, and to be honest, I was not to record this...
But here you have it... my contribution!
The FRM in this video, belongs to a Mini, that came to me with a few issues, including this one...
All the checks where performed, before the diagnosis of a bad FRM was made, in case you are interested, link for that video below...

Great stuff Luis! Research really pays off in the end. Corrupt flash from low voltage. I remember using that technique for corrupting EEPROM chips to gain backdoor access :)

The footwell module is something I have had faults with but never been able to repair them. Absolutely brilliant to see how it is actually done & that you can do it with the Autel is mad & brilliant. Well done Luis & thank you very much 🙏🙏👍

Is not just BMW... There is other manufacturers that suffer similar issues on some other modules is the battery goes too low, etc... Peugeot, Opel, Volvo...

As much as I am impressed too the reason the dealers wouldn't do this is that there tools don't have the function to do this.

As are the dealer tools we use both In our shop. Although I'm defo more interested I'm the repair you done as we are tired of send frm modules out to be repaired lol just trying to find the best tools autel, xprog, etc?

Great video, just to let you know Autel Im608 wont read D Flash even though it says it does, reads P Flash no problem but not D Flash. Says D Flash is empty but its not. Read D Flash perfectly with Xhorse VVDi. Keep up the good videos.

Because I am electronic repairs engineer with 20-years experience really annoys me that big manufacturers like BMW can't even put any protection on these modules if there's a battery fail so then you have to stop messing around in reprogramming everything

Not only BMW, we have had corsa D ecoflex I think 2009 with environment abs, body, ecu and something else related to Immo... Same issue low voltage and body module corrupted eeprom.. Took long before we put it to start..

Ah the annoying frm modules, in the end I bought a spring loaded pogo clip which made the process much easier to do when the issue rolled through the workshop. , the best one was the rear wiper over loaded the frm on a mini

Question as I'm still new to all of this. Once you revive it, can you program it the standard method using BMW tools like ISTA, Autologic, etc? Or do you need a specialty tool to reflash the FRM to the proper vehicle? Thanks and I subbed 👌🏽

Hi. Your videos are great. I have a 2011 mini R56 I'm working on. The guy bought it with no keys and the vehicle has been standing for approx a year. The battery was completely dead. Put a new battery on it and managed to add a key with my 508 after reading the DME isn. I have an issue with the remote doesn't work after programming. The central locking works from the switch in the car so will be checking the rear view mirror after seeing your video about that. My main question is, the drivers door window doesn't raise again after getting in and shutting the door. Stays open the couple of inches that it drops when it's unlocked. Is that likely to be the FRM corrupt due to the battery being dead please?

Hi,chief, have here (Porto) a 2004 Rover 25 1.4 petrol,barely fires and dies, the (delphi) scanner shows all 4 injectors at 12 mS, at key on, and 14 mS start position, any ideas? crank sensor seems ok, tach moves and scanner shows 400 RPMs cranking, and baro sensor shows 1000 mBars at key on...

Great video! Thank you! So I sent my FRM to a service and they helped flush it. Now they say I need to disconnect the battery first, then connect the FRM back and finally connect the battery back. But that's exactly how I got my FRM corrupted! (my FRM was good until some day I disconnected my battery and connected it back after 30 min) Did you connect the FRM back with the battery disconnected? Or just simply connecting FRM back with the battery on is fine? Thank you my friend.

On the diagnostic side of things, from what I have seen so far, they are pretty much identical... Is the immobiliser side on the IM608, and the flashing on the MS908P... Though, I've heard that the IM608 can now do flashing... I have not yet tested, so can't really comment...

X-prog,Orange5 or VVDI prog + DFlash to EEE-this is the right way to repair frm3.If you want,i can send you two different windows apps to work with dflash.

The windows apps would be appreciated... From all the above, I only have X-prog... and my one is too old, and does not read the mcu... I will upgrade in the future, or will get VVDI, which is on my wishlist for some time... 👍👍👍

I have that same board outside, it doesn't have any exploded component, but if it has corrosion of water or moisture in the plug like in 10 tips and the moisture on the board is already dry, how can I clean it? please and thank you

You can clean it using alcohol, I use isopropyl alcohol, and a brush... I use an old tooth brush... 👍👍👍

u said can't copy using standard usb but you do it through the network. What so a standard usb drive wont go in im608. What usb do I need then which the im608 pro can read?

Any usb stick will work... I just think that is a Autel feature that was introduced... not sure... Through the network allows to copy just fine... 👍👍👍

I told Bmw about the FRM being covered during the time period because of the Recall they had on their part and they wouldn’t fix it. I love my BMW but I am over paying for luxury cars they just have luxury problems and require luxury payments

my frm module was repaired with a tech, i brought the module separately to the tech, after brought back the lights,power windows was working, but the car does not started.The error message was engine start fault, please close driver's door... Yes... but that is done during the flash process... yes, the MS908P will download the required files for flash and coding... What I have done here with the IM608 is slightly different...

@@LMAutoRepairs I am after a scan tool that will do things such as ( coding and if changed any modules then the scanner will find the correct file and flash it ) so example if incase you had mini same year car slighty different version of FW module, and had ms908p could this find the correct file and pair it ? Yes... MS908P will do all of that... Just one thing, MS908P will not touch the immobiliser side of things...

@@LMAutoRepairs I don't try anything so far. But the owners say he put another frm from bmw E67 but his own is E87. He say everything is working now only the front light so I have to see tomorrow. @@LMAutoRepairs I have a 2013 X5 with no comms from the FRM2 after replacing a faulty alternator. Nearest dealer is in the next state 400 miles away. I’d love to learn how to fix these. I’m one of the only import shops in my area. I also run into the Audi steering column module issue a lot too.

@@LMAutoRepairs just putting back in the module and straight away flashing lights start works and windows start works but unfortunately I can’t coding because I still can’t turn the ignition on🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ any idea how to bypass the ignition ignition to turning on?? It won’t release the ELV even with the emulator

Hi! You are restored eeprom in wrong way! You just had to extract ori Dflash from Pflash! Without to coding, just write ORIGINAL eeprom back.

@@LMAutoRepairs Mate, by extract Dflash from Pflash (so make 99% of people) you can restore 100% copy of original erprom. After this - you do not need to make anythink. Just install back to car. Dflash is empty (better to say corrupt). It is normal. Pflash is not empty! If you have some time - look at video from Bimmerdoc. He made copy of erprom in the right way. @@LMAutoRepairs so you cannot connect the programmer module to the maxisys, it only works with maxiim? nice from autel point of view, they do this so they get 2x subscrptions...

The Maxisys is a different machine... you can get the IM instead, which has pretty much all the functions of the MS908P included...

@@LMAutoRepairs i was actually looking at the maxisys ultra... it also has the scope and function generator, i am not sure if the im608 does programming of modules which is very important

Can I send you my faulty R57 FRM for a repair? Car cranks but doesn't start. I'm 99% sure its the FRM as there was evidence of water ingress.

@@LMAutoRepairs I do… everything seems to work, windows work, lights work, roof goes up and down. There just seems to be no power getting to the spark plugs. Thank you for your response, I know you’re busy!

The FRM would not be responsible for that... as far as I am aware... Have you checked diagrams to see what powers the coil pack/s?

@@LMAutoRepairs sorry, but what is working now? You have many dtcs and its not working propetly. People who watch this Will think that it done and ready to go to costumer. But its not, and I sometime fix such "done" and "working" cars after some electricians.

🤦‍♂️ Oh dear... You haven't watched the other video... have you? After I got communications with the FRM was easy to get rid of all the DTCS... by flashing the module with the original software... again, all on both videos for this... video on the description by the way...

It is just a flash and coding as per the vo... done with the MS908P or any other capable tool... as mentioned on that video...not rocket science... I have videos on that... search the channel...
