BMW Group announced on June 23, 1992, that it would build its first full manufacturing facility outside of Germany in South Carolina. At that time, the company pledged to invest $600 million, to employ 2,000 associates by the year 2000, and attract at least nine suppliers to the state. It was the fastest factory start-up in automotive history-a record 23 months from site groundbreaking to first car produced.
Now over two decades later, the BMW Group has invested over 10.6 Billion, and the plant has gone through five major expansions. There are more than 11,000 jobs onsite with over 40 direct Tier 1 suppliers located in South Carolina and 300 suppliers in the United States.
In 2017, BMW Group announced an additional investment of $600 million in manufacturing infrastructure for the plant to prepare for future generations of the BMW X model family. This is the sixth major expansion since the plant opened.
Since the start of production in 1994 the plant has produced over 5 million vehicles. Currently, BMW Manufacturing produces more than 1,500 vehicles each day and exports 70 percent of its production. The factory is the global producer of the BMW X3, X3 M, X5, X5 M and X7 Sports Activity Vehicles and X4, X4 M, X6 and X6 M Sports Activity Coupes.

1:03:07 I custom-ordered an X3 in 2011, I had to wait something like 4 weeks for them to build it. As it was about to be shipped, it had an accident while loading on the car carrier 😖. So they had to build me another one.

You’ve been fortunate. The squeaks were common on the e70s (you hear them louder in petrol versions too) , I’ve spent years in getting to the root cause and addressed all the issues before I sold mine. To my surprise later manufactured interior panels came with felt pads attached to them to prevent these squeaks

Best dressed car assemblers in the US!!!! I guess management here got the balls!! here are the Tees with the company logos and colors and that's what you are going to use!!!! Ford, GM, Chrysler take note and stop that practice of letting your assemblers look like if they are drinking beer in their backyards on Sunday!!! EXCELLENCE is hard to understand by many!!!

Bmw made in usa do not have the same excellent quality as those made in Germany. German factory is mostly automatic with human input kept to a minimum. In US factory too many manual handlings which cause error. German workers' attitude to perfection far stronger than US workers.

Do not buy the X6M Competition. Brakes screech louder than the exhaust and they will not fix it. Embarrassing to drive it. Paid over $250,000 for a car I am embarrassed by.

roman walczak bmw is much more solid. Not as reliable, but it drives like a tank. I had lexus and acura before. They are like paper car compare to bmws.

I can't imagine the quality of these vehicles being close to those made in Munich...definitely recommend using the European Delivery Program. It's sad so many of these workers have serious co-morbididies...especially the melanated ones.

Well, if the quality and/or reliability of these vehicles is anywhere close to the lousy quality of the vehicles being made in Munich then I'm sure it won't take long for them to break down.

@@CJWJR I’ll take my Munich manufactured BMW any day over the USA knock-offs. BMW realized it had to build some of it’s cars in the USA because of the market, but the Germans had the intelligence to stay out of Detroit...and use plenty of robots.
