Worn Bearing, "How To Replace DIY The Easy Way"
The rear wheel bearing was getting noisy making a metallic rotating sound.
In the video I show how to check the wheel bearing, and then replace on the car, removing as little as possible, using just a few tool bought from amazon.
This job is the same on many BMW Models.

Excellent tutorial!!! I really appreciate how you took your time and showed each step, not editing out any difficult areas like so many do, leaving the viewer bewildered as to how it happened... I started to do this job and it seems like my 2016 328I X Dr. sedan does not have the E 12 bolts holding the axel shaft to the differential. Is there another method of doing this without removing the whole knuckle? If so can I do it with their bearing splitter and removal tool as described in your video. Ty Don

I started watching this video and it was almost comical at first because I did the same job on a 2007 X3. The truck came from the rust belt in the US and was no where as easy as you made it look. A friend of mine helped and smashed the axle with a sledge hammer mushroomed the axle. Then putting it back on banged in the end of the axle ruining the axle. I repaired it and changed the abs ring which was causing a whole host of problems on a awd anyway. The only thing I did differently was take the brakes off with the 2 15 mm bolts and not separate them. Installed the hub with the large bearing cup because it’s more stable and goes in straighter. I used a very long socket adapter and removed the e12 bolts on axle inner outside the car top of shaft the boot don’t get in the way and used a friend whose nickname is now Hammer. Great video!

@@aaanton11 but this kit is not suitable for E92 328i xDrive 2013. There are rear bearing 84mm, and the largest cup from that toolset is 84-85mm inner diameter. So to remove bearing from hub i've used hub itself and 5 long bolts.

Great work man! Your video helped me a lot with tool choice. Went to do this yesterday on my 3 series GT and since my diff is different type the axles don’t go out, I dismanteled the hand brake and took down the whole wheel bearing housing. It was not that big of a deal actually, 4 more bolts plus the handbrake cable and you are off. It was much easier doing the bearing removal and install on a table and with a vice.

I agree on the torque specs. The center axle nut could wear out the bearing prematurely if over torqued. It’s hard to get a feel with an impact lol. Also I would recommend a medium “blue” grade Loctite on the 6 axle torx bolts along with the brake caliper bracket to hub also torque to spec. All in all Great video!!!

Great stuff mister, noting that type of bearing with 2 part inner race are loose by design until tightened (around 9:50 in) apart from that almost inconsequential point, excellent tutorial! :D Just trying to save someone a load of work if they're only changing the shaft, as it'll feel floppy soon as the nut is undone if inner races haven't stuck to the hub. If you have the bearing removal kit, always worth doing the bearing when changing the drive shaft anyway. Keep up the great work, inspiring me to upload a video of my own some day.

This is an awesome video thank you and great work! I think my rear bearings are on their way out on my E89 Z4 at 110k miles. Stupid question - when putting the new bearing on, is there any reason why you put the bearing on the car and then the hub on the bearing? Could you not put the hub on the bearing first, and then press both onto the car? In my head that would be easier...

Good job. Good tip I came across for getting the race off is to put a socket in a vice, put the hub on the socket, heat the race with oxy or map and it just drops off. No more cutting them off (to be fair that one came off easy with the puller...get a lottery ticket quick)

Great Video! Just on the bolts you use to push the hub off using the bearing separator, I notice the thread pitch on amazon for the freetech bolts states it's a M14 x 1.5 thread. Where I've looked for lug bolt specs for the F30 3 Series, the thread specs are M14 x 1.25. Do you know what the actual thread pitch is on the freetech bolts vs the hub threads (M14)? Thanks

Great video that shows how to do it! Might have to do this on my 118d to soon. Btw, the nut on the driveshaft should be torqued to 145 nm + 45 degrees according to Bmw specs (for the driveshaft thats M24). 🙂

@@jptrainor I use that spec often my self, but on some things i prefer to have it to bmw spec. Specially bearings etc wher to tight can wear it out faster. Not sure if that actually can happen with this type of bearings but non the less.. 🙂

I wanted to add a word of caution to any DIY'ers attempting this. I'm working on replacing the rear wheel bearings on my '09 E82. My car has no undercarriage rust whatsoever, as it has spent most of its life in Southern Texas, and more recently in Southern California. I attempted removing the axle from the hub using multiple techniques, all ending in futility and/or broken tools. I'm down to the choice of trying a hydraulic press or buying brand new knuckles/axles/hubs/fasteners. My conclusion is that it's pure luck of the draw determining how straightforward it is to remove an axle. Just do a quick KZfaq search on stuck BMW axles. Suffice to say there a lot.
