Who’s ready for an EV v petrol v diesel drag race?! Now you may look at this line-up and think Mat's finally lost it - but trust us, this race will be more interesting than you think!
Starting with the e-tron, it’s powered by 2 electric motors to produce 408hp & 664Nm of torque. It’s pretty heavy though, weighing in just shy of 2.5 tonnes! It’ll weigh down your bank account as well, with a starting price from £79,000!
As for the Type R, it’s powered by a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine to deliver 320hp & 400Nm. So it’s down on power compared to the Audi, but then again, it does weigh just 1,380kg - over 1.1 tonnes less than the EV SUV!
Then finally we have the M40d, which pretty much sits in the middle of these two. It's powered by a 3-litre straight-six diesel to deliver 330hp & 680Nm of torque, and when it comes to weight, it sits at about 1,900kg - so pretty much bang in the middle!
So they all roll up with pretty different stats, but how do you think this will play out? Will the most powerful e-tron snatch it? Or will the super light Type R beat them both? There's only one way to find out - let's race!

Nah, the BMW had more torque. That's what really matters in the end. And yes, diesels can put it to the ground almost as well as EVs. Plus it's lighter. I was definetly not expecting it to destroy them like that.

The FK8 Type R is really only a ‘reverse’ or ‘half’ a V-TEC. Air in is via Turbo, the half V-TEC then extracts the exhaust.

@@Markcain268 manual is dead and nowadays useless, unless you are driving enthusiast then yes. I would never go back to manual again, with automatic is much more comfortable and if I want to drive fast then I'll put it into sport and use the peddles on the steering wheel.

What's amazing about it? It's all about 4 wheel drive in drag races. In real world scenarios, aka rolling races, it's lacking massively

@@fraka899 I said the ENGINE was amazing - didn’t specifically say anything about it winning the race or what assisted in that respect but a 250kW 700Nm and a 6.4L/100km or 37MPG Diesel engine that can still propel a 2ton SUV to 100km/h in sub 5secs (or this particular 1:4 mile) is MOSTLY amazing because of that engine. 700Nm in a rolling race is still plenty to get excited about in the real world or otherwise

You don't actually have to be level for the brake test. The important thing is that you start braking on the line at the same speed so the competition would be fair

Because fwd and manual. People keep comparing apples to milk. It's honda's fault that doesn't make a one-off, press-only car, being awd and using dct transmission, just for races vs other hot hatches with the same technology

I know, people hate the civic type r, They hate it's looks, but its a japanese hot hatch of course it will be heavily styled, Civic is just the most handsome hot hatch I've ever seen.

The Type R has never been quick off the line, its strength is that it’s an absolute weapon around the track. It would be weird if the other cars have been lapped around the Nurburgring but my money would be on the Civic

Yeah, they are also much bigger vehicles. You can comfortably fit adults in the second row along with more storage room. Really, completely different cars marketed to completely different people. I can't imagine someone cross shopping a Civic Type R with those SUVs.

@@BLACK05GO1 big adults will fit better in the civic back seat especially conpared to that sloping coupe line on the bmw. Infact the luggage volume on the bmw x40d is 620 liters , less than the 727 liters on the type r. "Coupe"SUVs are just useless.

I can get a large Collapsable Pram for a newborn and 2-3 weeks shopping for a family of 4 in my type R easily, it’s still a civic at the end of the day - a family car. You don’t need an SUV unless your getting to an age where bending down to get into a car hurts your knees and back…
