Love the excellent detail & realism, plus it appears to be set in the '70s, which is when I was growing up, so that makes it doubly cool to me.

I'm not a model train fan but I've got to say that this is amazing. There were times when it looks so real and I mean real. Not a model looking good but a real train passing down a real line with real trees and buildings. You guys are magicians and I'll look at models in a wholly different light now. Absolutely awesome! I worked for the Northern Pacific as a boy, then went into the Navy for six years. I returned to railroad work in this time period, working on a welding gang for the Burlington Northern in Montana. These trains are great. Thanks for putting this online.

I know nothing about train collecting and don't have much intrest in it at all, BUT that had my jaw on floor lol! How can anyone not appreciate the skills, time, and artistic ability that goes into something like that! So impressive and beautiful!

The price tag for this is likely priceless at this point. So much material, so much labor, so much equipment has gone into this layout at his point that I don't think its value can be accurately measured.

Great sense of scale. Looks as professional as the work of the movie set designers and other whizzes who manage to make 8-inch ships looks as if they're really at sea.

Great video. Super detail. One thing I noticed that impressed me was the sun visors in the locomotive cab...tilted down to block the sunshine. Neat. As for the intermittent commentary regarding the length of this particular video, I'd say an exception is in order, considering the exceptional quality of the railroad. The Northern Pacific engine detail is amazing.

Amazing layout!!! This reminds me of the layout my Dad and I built. It was a little smaller and we worked together on the layout for ten years. It was never finished just like everyone else who enjoys the hobby. I don't care if you've had it four years or fourteen there's always something else to add on to your own little world. Im looking forward to seeing more of your layout. By the way I unfortunately had to sell the house and the couple who purchased my home also took the trains. I spent many hours and months teaching them (father and son) how to run , maintain and explain how everything worked. I kept enough track to go around my Christmas tree along with some rolling stock and a turn out and a couple of buildings. My Dad would have loved your layout.

Very nice detail on everything, even noticed the girl sunbathing on the hood of the jeep at 5:28, lol.

There are a few ways to model rocks. Plaster rock castings (from purchased or made molds).Custom molds can be made with crumpled aluminium foil & plaster. Another way is to use "sculptamold" (much easier to work with than plaster). Once sculpted into the desired shape (using various shaping & carving tools), the rock work can be painted w/ a wash from cheap acrylic paints or wood stains. It's helpful to have a base to start w/ (like foam board or the chicken wire method).
