Class I Railroad Co. don't go ordering. locomotives operate for a number of years at least 50 + years. After 50 to 60 May be 70 yrs, do go in for complete over haul and rebuild but they know when a locomotive is due for overhaul is considered as PM and other forms of care. But some locomotives are placed in in for storage for awhile, when they're needed they can be pulled for service. Some were stored an were forgotten this is considered as abandoning a locomotive that was abandoned; Left to deterioration and corrosion. Some class 1 and class 2 leaving them there running until it run out of fuel others were left in the ditch like little children leaving heavy equipment behind. Having no any kind of decency of recovery on their equipment.
