BNSF 6996 with K5HA! San Diego, CA

Күн бұрынES44C4 #6996 sporting a rare K5HA horn for a BNSF GEVO is seen leading the loaded autos out of San Diego on 5/9/24. Even though this K5HA is a Raised Letter and nothing too special, it's still a breath of fresh air from hearing the standard RL K5HL on 90% of the GEVOS.
I first caught it crossing Harbor Dr with the yard crew bringing it up from National City. Second, crossing Cesar Chavez Pkwy with the road crew now on board, and lastly cruising thru Old Town.
Due to issues with the train separating in National City, this didn't even leave the yard till close to 1am, that's about 3-4 hours later than normal for this train.

K5HA's for GEVO's are much better than the K5HL and maybe the K5HLA and K5HLB in my opinion. If you want something else for a K5HA Chris, UP 5471 actually used to have a Narrow Font K5HA - it sounded SPLEN-DID.

Good catch! I heard it was a "K1224A4A". Did it used to have that and got replaced? Or is that just a overcomplicated way to say K5HA?

It's mainly thru word of mouth from other railfans... and webcams and such. Some of it is luck too, ha!

You have to be very sneaky!!! 🕵 If you approach one too quickly it might get scared and run off!
