Took me a while to notice the relation between the pringles can, and what he was actually saying, "Can, Hand" - "Can't Handle" "CAN't HANDle" lmao - Everything he was saying in the beginning was all a metaphor for his own life

Along with the over stuffing of a burrito.. It was more than he expected, or not the right combination needed.

I think of it more like when he says "Wouldn't have got the peppers if I knew they wouldn't fit" as him not wanting the fame that he gained so quickly.

Fxns I agree. The can is a space others want you to fit into. The burrito is the life that came with fame. Maybe knowing you bit off more than you could chew. Then the struggle finding the middle between I need to go all in, but I know I could over do it. How to balance. Maybe, I don't know

The first time I watched this performance, I cracked up. The second time I watched it, I teared up. The entire thing is a metaphor, and the message is also relatable. The Pringles represent happiness ("priority numero uno") and how he can't seem to get to it... how he wasn't prepared for all the things in life like overfilling a burrito by picking too many things with no one to warn you. Even when he says he wants a daughter, he wants to have and raise someone happy in his life...someone who can reach inside that Pringles can. He wants to be true to himself, and finds that caring what others think prevents him from doing so. When he starts the burrito chorus, the lights (eyes of the public) shine on him and make him shrivel down into himself. And when he continues with the burrito chorus again after the 'real talk' he's just a shadow of himself, or what others want to see from him, and it tears him up (making him yell).
@BlazerManiacNumber965 жыл бұрын
I don't think they are metaphors at all. But moreso it's him saying that people don't care about performers as people but instead just want them to perform. So he said "fine, I'll just shut up and do my dumb little song". It's an emotional reversal.
@Kyopo5 жыл бұрын
@@BlazerManiacNumber96 If that were the case and the Pringles/burrito stuff were standalone jokes seperate from the 'serious' part in the middle, then he wouldn't have included all the parts like "if you still don't understand, i think it's time to break it down", and "watch as he tries to give you what he cannot give himself". The 'i don't think that i can handle this right now,' is said over the same melody/track as the burrito lyrics, and the entire theme and title of the show is 'give happy,' and he even says "i hope you're happy" right at the end of this performance. To top it off, the actual show has an over-the-top video play at the end showing him leaving the backstage into the bright sunshine to give a more 'happy ending' than in the song. Not only are the Pringles/burrito metaphors, but they're very obviously meant to be metaphors for the struggles of life/finding happiness/whatever have you. What is up for debate, is whether he's actually dealing with those issues he's presenting and speaking to his actual personal issues, or if he's method-acting and just telling a story for others.

@stupidcamel97825 жыл бұрын
Kyopo lol no. The jokes are used to get your attention. Specifically with the line “i can sit here and pretend like my biggest problems are Pringles cans and burritos”, he’s got your attention and that’s how he has to get you to hear him out. Quit trying to make these things some “deep” metaphors.
@jeremybr20205 жыл бұрын
@@stupidcamel9782 Has Bo come out and stated that these jokes were not meant to be metaphors? Because if he has, i have yet to see it. Bo views his material as an art form. Which it is. Just like any painting or poem or song, art can be interpreted in many ways. Who are you to claim otherwise? Seriously, do Pringle jokes and jokes about burritos really seem like attention getters? They are literally the opposite. They are mundane and everyday topics. The setting and context makes them effective however. But if he really wanted something to grab the audiences attention, I'm certain he could do better than that. The metaphors that people have gotten from this song are certainly valid and conceivable. They easily fit the narrative of his life at the time. One of Bo's issues with the entertainment industry is that people only see what's on the surface. And he wants people to know that he's so much more than that. It goes much deeper. What could convey that better than telling an ironical joke which on the surface appears to be routine and commonplace topics such as Pringles and burritos, but in reality is so much more complex than that? You very well may be right, and he hadn't meant for it to be so complicated. This is doubtful. But do you think Bo cares what people might glean from his material? Do you think Picasso or Rembrandt got mad when people looked at their art and interpreted it in some way they hadn't intended themselves? Even more doubtful.

I watched this again for the first time since that special a few days ago and the “attempts to give you what he cannot give himself” clicked about his happiness and I got goosebumps. A fucking artist

That's what his whole purpose is, he just said that he wants to be true himself, and give us what we want, which is he wants to relate to us, and be true. Because of which, even when he is just relating, it feels like a metaphor, because it's so damn true.

I think it's fair to say it's possibly both something and nothing. And I'm not providing meaningless compromise. I actually think you're both sort of right. He's speaking everyday nonsense, evoking that moment of frustration that becomes your own metaphor. Those moments where you decide if your day is good or bad because of how things compile or don't.

He said that both the comedy bits and the "real" bits are *all* parts of him. (watch his interview on Vulture's Good One series.) He's spoken a lot about how people take the emotional parts of his performance a little too seriously - yes there *is* truth to it, but the funny bits and the sad bits equally make up "the real Bo".

It’s absolutely mind blowing and very sad when you listen after knowing the double meanings. The Pringle’s can bit is all about him not being able to reach his happiness, and the burrito is him not being able to fit everything in his life that he wants to, and he feels like comedy is taking away the space he could use for the other things he needs. So sad but so deep

Ik this video old atm, but if you happen to see this hear me out. Maybe someone said it before, idk. Ask them to crush the lettuce in their hand before they put it in the burrito. It takes less room inside the burrito after that. It's not like the lettuce is ruined after that. It just condense the value of the lettuce more. Try it once. Then get back to me. I've used the method when making my own burritos.

I think it's so telling that when he tells them about how performing is negatively impacting his mental health the crowd is damn near utterly silent, but when he finishes off the heavy part with " ... do my job, so here I go." you pretty much immediately start hearing cheers. Many will tell you that he has disavowed meaning in the burrito and pringles jokes. But they are mistaken. "Death of the Author" The artist does not get to decide how his art is interpreted. He does not get to decide what does and does not have meaning. He can only display and state what has meaning in its creation to HIM. The theories, emotions, rationals and metaphors gleamed, even about the artist themselves, are up to the viewer to decide. If you feel the burrito were apt metaphors, especially considering that he often stated in his youtube career, to abhor stand up comedians for the same reason as stadium country music, that it lacked soul because it was commercialised. that it was something he never wanted to be. that he openly quit standup BECAUSE he had become what he had always hated, and never wanted to be. That the life and contract he'd signed, the fame he'd garnered, like the burrito, was overstuffed, overfilled, and unsatisfying because of that. Or that the pringles can represents the space within that people place him, or his inability to reach the contents is his inability to either fit the mold they desire, or to reach the happiness he seeks? If that is your interpretation. According to art critical rules, it is JUST AS VALID as anything Bo Burnham says. In fact, in some cases, it has MORE value.

@liamjohnstone10624 жыл бұрын
I always thought the pringles can was life, he didnt get quite what he wanted out of it then all at once it hits him in the face. I also think he makes the argument that maybe having a child would help him get out of life what he wanted. The burrito is fame, the opposite end of the spectrum in which he got much more than he bargained for and noone prepared him for it.. he ultimately wouldnt have done it had he known what he was getting into. I could be wrong, thats just my interpretation.

Pringles - metaphor for how difficult life is. And an appeal to the "Pringle makers". And a daughter, a family would make him happier, and help life. Burrito, clearly a metaphor for how he wouldn't have done half of his life/fame if he had known what it was like. If you didn't catch it, he'll run it back for you. So, his ability to do this is incredible, take euphemisms, and metaphors, and not only relate to people, but boil down the complexities of life into it all. It's just incredible...

I think the Pringles & Burrito rants are symbolizing his life. Pringles = Knows what he wants out of life but can’t have (or grasp) it. Burrito = His life as a celebrity in the spotlight. Maybe he would’ve done things differently had he known what it REALLY took to be a celebrity. Even his comedy is a symbolism of his life. I urge you to go back and watch his first 2 Netflix specials armed with knowing about his mental health. He’s a musical & sarcastic genius with his comedy. Using both of these funny rants (handling Pringles & Burritos) to share his message about handling fame. Glad he had the strength to share ALL of this with the world and bring a spotlight to mental health with his powerful “Inside” special. God Bless

This song is all about the same thing. It doesn't switch topics. It just goes from metaphor to, well, not. Pringles can is happiness. The hand not fitting is the metaphor for not being able to get happiness, then you try too hard and it comes crashing down on you. So he thinks that if he can have a daughter he has someone that can finally give him happiness. The burrito is his career. He was a young early star and has lots of anxiety and mental health issues. He became overwhelmed and, "wouldn't have got half this shit" if he was told originally what it would be like. The finally he expresses it seriously. He loves his fans, but also its his fans that are the worst part of it for him. He legit quits on stage, with his last line being both sincere and a bit of an attack. We, the fans, helped do this to him. We helped push along his declining mental health, all for the laughs. All for us to be happier. Meanwhile, he declines further and finishes the show, and his standup career with the line, "I hope you're happy." My hearth broke when he uttered those final words.
