I always find it weird to think that Bo’s mom and dad toured with him full time his first 2 years on the road. Must be cool parents. Especially since Bo makes his dad look bad in each thing he is in.

As a math major this is my favorite Bo song. The level of math knowledge and ability to create humor from it is unparalleled. I know many lines will go over people’s head but once you understand them you will truly appreciate his genius here.

"L N X" is a math function, written "ln(x)". it's a logarithm with the base e (e is a number around 2.718). e is called the "natural log" because of calculus stuff. it's basically as important to calculus as pi (3.14) is to geometry. say you drive over a hill, and you wanted to know not how high up you were, but how STEEP the hill was at any point in the journey. so you make a graph where the left side is "steepness" and the bottom line is distance. that graph would start at zero, since you started out on flat ground, then get higher until half-way up the hill because it kept getting steeper, and as you approach to top of the hill it would get lower again until you reach the very top, which is once again flat. Now when you start going down the other side, the graph would get negative until halfway down, when it would start coming back up to zero when you're back on the flat ground on the far side of the hill. This graph you drew is called a "derivative" because you derived it from something else. you could say the "derivative" of your hill is a hill then a valley, then back to zero. this is what calculus does- it finds the slope of things. Well 'e' is important to calculus because if you take the derivative of e^x (find the steepness or "slope" of the graph at any point) the answer is STILL e^x! it makes a lot of things that might take a LOT of really hard math and makes it really, really simple as long as you're working in base e. so ln(x) (math people say it like "lawn x", not "L N X" like Bo did) is the "natural log of x". So he said the opposite of that is Duraflame, the "unnatural log". Because jokes are funnier the more you explain them.

I would probably recommend watching up to Words, Words, Words and then recommend watching his specials in order after that. They're all on Netflix except for Words, Words, Words and unpopular opinion here but, I would maybe skip that one all together except for the tracks "Art is Dead" and "Rant". It doesn't hold up as well as all the other ones after that which I think are amazing, the last one in particular being a masterpiece.

Something I thought to mention since we are nearing the point in Bo's career where he proforms "Art is Dead" if you are curious to see how he responds to a sort of intimate crowd setting there is a video of Bo Burnham's appearance on "The Green Room with Paul Provenza" it is a sort of conversation with a small handful of comedians of all genre's and ages with Bo being one of the comedians and the youngest. They just take the piss out of each other it's quite hilarious and great. He also does a proformamce of "Art is Dead" on there as well. Regardless of what comes next can't wait for another video thanks again for the giggles Alice.

As you go along your Bo Burnham journey, you will soon get to his hour long specials (Words Words Words, what, Make Happy, and Inside). I would think the best way to watch those would be to watch the entire specials in one session and then break apart the reactions into separate videos. You could potentially do intros for each video after the fact. There are some songs in those specials that have a much greater impact if you do not know the titles of them until he gets to the choruses or delivers a punchline.

If you like Bo Burnham now, then I'm happy to tell you that you have no idea what he's become. It's night and day. I guarantee you that some of his newer songs will make you cry. I'd also recommend Tim Minchin's "White wine in the sun", and "Not perfect". Those two, if you're used to Tim's comedy writing, might give you a good idea of who Bo has become as a musician.

I'm bo yo was my first exposure to Bo, and to this day is one of my favorite songs of all time. Bo has been a lifelong inspiration to me at this point, and every time I hear the song I tear up.

I'm Bo Yo was the first bo burnham video i saw back in the day. It blew my mind. I PROMISE if you watch it again you'll catch something different each time you do. he stacks meaning on meaning in one bar. its so layered. His crude humor is shocking but once you get past the shock you really see how truly impressive his command over language is. "I'm gonna tear it (tarot) like the cards of gypsies, youll bleed for so long youll get monthly ellipses" ellipses... three periods... I must have heard this ten times before i fully got that joke. I just scanned comments, so not sure if someone explained yet: Domain Domain Range I think is a reference to XXY chromosome, also called Klinefelters Syndrome. But that isn't an exact fit for the song's reference. The opposite of ln(x): ln(x) is called the "Natural Logarithm". So the opposite of the "natural log" is an "unnatural(fake) log" and Duraflame is a brand that makes fake logs and firestarters.
