It’s actually so fun to watch someone start so close to his older stuff when he was all about shock value going now into his stuff where his songs comedy is just to set you up for the 5 ton anvil of meaning and feels he’s about to hit you with. The newer and newer stuff will give you full body goosebumps constantly.

Every show he makes has a clear message behind it. He'll pick a topic for it and develop a whole thing around it, it just so happens that it went from his views on artistry and his own experiences with the entertainment industry to isolation and depression. All of his shows have a meaning behind them, be it how people treat him as an artist or how superficial the internet has become. He's just talking about things that more people can relate to now instead of a select few.

@@versetripn6631 I appreciate the references LOL I don't personally think it's about his content being more superficial. Speaking from his most recent work, I think he's clever in showing what he means, be it directly (a literal song about what the internet has become) or indirectly (imagery of himself in a clear thirst trap and the crucifying in an apology song to visually mock apology videos online) and he continues to be very self-aware with his opinions and actions. Bo's always talked about how society has issues and judged it, while still admitting he's a part of it and being in the entertainment business is assisting with some of it, as well as doing what he does for his own self-named selfish reasons. Maybe even he sees himself as superficial, since he's doing content still, but I don't.

@@Toastybees No, the song is not doing that. Bo Burnham is not rage against the fucking machine. He's poking fun at the insincerity of the relationship between popstars and their fans by being hyperbolic in the way literally all of his comedy is. No, I did not use self-report wrong, and I don't know why you think your opinion on what words I use would be of interest to me. Hasan is certainly a popularizer of the phrase but he also certainly did not invent it. And it's way easier to say "self-report" than "you have inadvertently revealed yourself to be utterly and embarrassingly guilty of the very thing of which you are trying to criticize someone else, making your whole take reflect much more poorly on you than the person you're criticizing." This is doubly true because the thing you're criticizing someone for is LITERALLY a lack of self-awareness, so there's a whole extra layer of facepalm there. EDIT: Forgot to mention. Comedy Central approached Trump about doing a roast. Why would he turn down free money? Justin Bieber was begging CC to roast him for YEARS before they did. Totally the same thing tho right?

The two versions of repeat stuff are different and liked for different things, but the one thing the studio version definitely has over the live version is the slow pull in on the mother's face as she looks increasingly concerned until she suddenly looks at the camera. Also, I know you mentioned you tried a bunch of stuff already, but I've fond a lot of reactors have managed it by simply flipping the video horizontally, combined with making the video translucent. So if you haven't tried that combo yet, it may work for you. Also, doesn't really help for already filmed videos, but pausing semi-frequently to comment on stuff can also help, cuz it doesn't just detect the entire video as one uninterupted audio clip (making it seem like just a re-upload). Not saying to pause every 2 seconds, but maybe pausing slightly more frequently might help.

On the industry being evil front, I'd point you to the last bit of the song. "We know it's not right. We know it's not funny. But we'll stop beating this dead horse when it stops spitting out money. And until then... We will repeat stuff." Grim, but realistic view of the INDUSTRY. Warner, Atlantic, Sony, Universal, etc. keep mass producing every color, shape, and flavor of "artist" and we keep paying, for, among others, reasons Bo showed in the song. Exploiting the passion of young, easy to manipulate hearts for your own profit. If that's not capital E Evil, I don't know what is. As a follow up, I recommend taking a closer look at Bo's Country Song, if you haven't already.

You’re definitely right that he’s not a pop star lol but I feel like during that era, he kind of fell into the trap of coming across as a bit of a teen idol because he was, at the time, one of the youngest comedians (if not the youngest) and he had come from KZfaq, which was also a new thing. So, he was in his late teens and early 20s (the time when celebrities have a teen fanbase anyway) and the demographic of his side of KZfaq was pretty much in the same age range at the time, assuming that my generation wasn’t stumbling onto his content in elementary school lol These days internet celebrities are very common, so it’s not really handled the same way.

Now that you've arrived to the comedy specials from Bo you might want to take into consideration that the song titled "Can't Handle this" (from his Make happy -special) is best left to be the one you react to just before you move on to the songs from his most recent special "Inside". If you wish for it to make the most sense: when you hit the final "Inside" special listen to the song "All eyes on me" right after you've seen "Can't handle this". That said there are several songs uploaded to KZfaq outside of his own yt page from the specials "what." and "Make happy" that are worth listening to before you reach that point. what. has the songs "Sad" and "# deep" that are worth a listen and from Make happy I'd recommend at least listening to "Straight white male", "Country Song", "Lower your expectations" and "Problem Solving Song (Kill Yourself) " before you get to "Can't handle this" and then move on to the latest "Inside" -special.

Bo has always gone very hard against the mainstream bastardization and marketing of "Art" repeat stuff is one of the most direct call out of it. Thing like Welcome to KZfaq, Country Song, Welcome to the Internet, and I'm sure several others all touch on how much it all comes down to money. I think part of it comes down to Bo hating that he is a part of the very system he finds so appalling. Which is why he "casts" himself as the demon possessed one in the video.

"what the fuck was up with the satan shit?" had the same thought when i first listened. I think it because bo equates capitalizing on the insecurities of teens, and to trap them in this weird loop of "listen to my song telling me i love you!" and then giving them unobtainable wealth and beauty standards so they constantly feel unworthy and unlovable. That loop is evil (hence the devil imagery). It destroys lives and peoples perceptions of themselves. That's also why he smothers the little girl and takes her heart, its a metaphor for what these pop artists do to teens, suffocate their spirit and take their heart. Not to say that all pop artists do this, but a lot do. And a lot of artist do it unintentionally. Justin Bieber is a good example. He was groomed by executives and directors to be appealing to girls his age, and was basically a pawn for a lot of his career.

Great video as always Alice I am glad it wasn't blocked. If I'm not mistaken the songs from his special What. Tend not to get blocked since the whole special is on youtube for free. So least you will have a bit of peace from the frustration. Worst case scenario I'm certain most of your subscribers have seen the video of art is dead so we could always follow along with audio only, that is if it isn't being blocked as well. Regardless the journey is still so enjoyable with or without the missing content. I always saw the Satan imagery as the symbol to the epitome of evil. How the music industry contortes insecurities of the masses until it has control over them is satanic in nature or in other words the epitome of evil. That or he wanted an excuse to be a horny little devil guess we'll never know but can enjoy it with goosebumps regardless. Thank you for all your hard work and authenticity in your videos Alice it's nice to know there are still people that are real in this world.

Yea the live version of repeat stuff is better imo - Also the satan stuff was meant to mirror that "Beyoncé and JayZ worship satan for fame" and Hollywood illuminati thing that was going around at the time of recording this lol Also in spirit of going in chronological order I'd suggest checking his wiki page for this work listed in release order :) 🤘

It's worth watching Stephen lynch if you enjoy Bo Burnham and Tim minchin. Songs to look at: tiny little Moustache, chocolate Icecream and tattoo are hilarious!

It's funny you mentioned Justin Beiber he was one of the main references/targets of this song. Justin went to one of his shows and it was reported that he was offended for being called a follower of Satan. Bo talked about it in an interview with Conan O'Brien at the time.

The Satanic imagery (I believe) is a reference to a lot of songs and artists being accused of hiding subliminal messaging of satanic imagery. Like the song Stairway to Heaven allegedly has satanic imagery if the song is played in reverse.

Please react to Help Me by Trevor Moore. It's the reverse side of the coin of repeat stuff with both representing a type of pop star. Trevor Moore is my dead hero his songs are hilarious and deep. He has someone else singing most of help me and sings The Producers parts.

I always took the satanic bits as comparing the disregard of emotionally manipulating young people as sacrificing them for your own gain. Plus the fair bit of "deal with the devil" kind of analogies that come out of the music industry.

Yeah, he definitely has a dark view of pop culture and pop music and it’s effects on children, especially. I think his video was a metaphor for the music industry, like it insinuates itself into children’s homes and minds, takes their love (i.e., their heart), and uses it for money (i.e., consumes it). So when you look at it that way, it does kind of seem evil. I love the extended metaphors he uses, just makes you think about things in a new way.

if you're getting too much trouble with uploading the videos just up'em to yandex or streamable (or both) and leave the links in the descriptions, a lot of reactors do that and they have no problem at all, only intro and after thoughts + outro are left in youtube, that way they don't get in trouble

Hey Alice! I've seen some other KZfaqrs who have had problems uploading Bo Burnham videos, and some of them managed to get blocked videos unblocked by placing some text on top of the video. Maybe this is worth looking into?

Repeat stuff is one of my favourite pieces he has ever made. It's exactly how I felt as a teenager. My sister and loads of my female friends couldn't see what I was trying to tell them, that the music is generic and bland to make you learn to enjoy the same trash so you buy their stuff. Bo is then showing the harm when you warp young minds like that. They become needy as adults because they have been forced to feel not good enough by the pop culture surrounding them. They felt not pretty enough or not talented enough. It made them feel like they couldn't ever achieve anything but also made them feel like they need a partner; those people find it unbearable to be single in adulthood, so often jump into relationships, no matter how toxic, just so they don't have to be alone. Bo is calling out the entire system designed to prey on preteen girls as Satanic for how awful they are. Both versions of Repeat stuff are great. This one is so good as, a Justin Bieber parody, but the original is so much more aggressive and chaotic sounding towards the end. I love them both.
