There is no building a story in Bring Your Own Book. Everyone grabs a book, and then someone reads a prompt. Everyone else races to find a phrase in their book that satisfies the prompt. Then (like apples to apples) the prompt reader chooses his favorite. Every time someone wins two prompts everyone passes their book to the left. It is very fun!

Chiming in with Paperback! The book/author theme is pretty secondary, but the word-crafting/deck-building aspect should work great for anyone who considers themselves a wordsmith 😁

Yes, but what about books for board game lovers? How long do you think it will be before we get board game lit, similar to litrpg? Where there is a story about someone inside a board game? And we follow along with baited breath while they order their meeples around and bump tracks?

Black Sonata & Red Rising are two of my favorites. Of Lord of Rings games, "The Confrontation" by Reiner Knizia is my favorite. It is a very asymmetric game like Stratego. And a book channel? Nice! I read a variety of books; I just finished "Resistance" by Jennifer Nielsen (read with my daughter) and I am now reading the Formula 1 book "How to Build a Car" by Adrian Newey. I recently finished the third "Red Rising" book and it was terrific.

The Name Of The Rose is supposed to be pretty fun, based on the book. I would like to see one based on The Island Of The Day Before. If I designed it, it would have hidden movement on the ship, a trip to the island using underwater gear (to win or lose the game), and a time-shifting mechanic centered around the international dateline. Anyway, I thought of it first, so this is proof of concept.

Red Rising is my all-time favourite book series (fandom, really). I would not say it is young adult, though. The first book is borderline young adult but things quickly escalate and by the second part of the series (Iron Gold, Dark Age, Lightbringer) it is definitely not young adult. The Stonemaier game is fine. The interactions between the characters (the heart and soul of the series) is very thematic. However, I do wish it were more epic in feel. The books range across the solar system and have epic space battles and land battles and is full of political intrigue. Admittedly, that's difficult to capture in a board game but this is a series that deserves something more along the lines of a TI4 scope rather than a card game with some extra bits. I like the game but because I LOVE the books I was still a little disappointed. On the other hand, I think The Reckoners is the ideal for all book-based games to strive for. It's incredible and feels epic. Did you know that there is an expansion for it? Steelslayer. It basically adds the second and third books in. I haven't played the expansion yet but I recently played the base game and it was a huge hit, again.

Any Jane Austen as she wrote in the Regency era and Obsession board game as it takes place in the Regency era. I personally would recommend Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility but really any of her novels are excellent. Those are also her most popular and most familiar books to most people, and I think the two that have the most on-screen adaptations.

@daniellebackus819
@daniellebackus819 4 ай бұрын
Trick taking is a mechanism in card games where all the players play one card, and the person who played the best card wins “the trick”, by taking the cards and counting them together as one “trick.” Classics trick-taking card games are bridge, hearts, spades, or my family played pitch. Modern trick-takers include Fox in the Forest, the Crew, and Brian Boru (and many more!). I love trick-taking games!

@daniellebackus819 4 ай бұрын
@@ValorantRivals it’s one of my favorites for sure. It’s a layer of strategy and has a little bit of pushing your luck, trying to predict what others might have, even a little bit of trying to read the faces of the other players. If you want to buy a cheap one, Fox in the Forest is very cheap and everyone I have played it with has at least liked it. Another game that has gone over well with every group I have played it with is Cat in the Box.
