Board shape evolution. 85-94. There’s a lot more I could have said or elaborated on, as well as nuances that I didn’t mention, but wanted to keep it at a watchable length.

In the 80s we bought the deck because of the shape. Today its because of the graphic.

It could really be both nowadays

super cool. i had skateboards in the '80s when i was little, but didn't really get into it until probably '94-'95. i really like the '90-'91 shape, even today. i recently picked up a santa cruz eric dressen, but haven't set it up yet. i remember starting to go wider on boards towards late '90s like 8"-8.25", and that's about where i've stayed on popsicles. but i do like 9"+ on shapes

Now this along with the stories you have about the boards, the people who rode them and the graphics are what really draw me into and find a love for skateboarding! Awesome, awesome job on this small presentation and even more so with that insane collection of decks/completes that you have too! Now honestly, one thing I'd love to see anyone do is really show these decks in action. From the Pig shape to the more personal shape, the Vision Double Vision deck, the later 80's to the Barnyard shape, early 90's and beyond, that is something I'd throw big bucks at to see it happen!

I'd love to hear you talk about how the shuttering of skateparks and the rise of street skating lead to larger noses. Not just for nose slides but as a catch for ollies. Once we figured out how to catch and level our boards using larger noses, it opened up gaps, stairs, handrails, and an entire world of skatespots.

I’d need to do some research. I’m pretty much focussed on mid 80s to 96.

Imagine you stop skating for a few years in 90 91 and come back having to skate a 7.5 when you last board was 9.5

I started in 87 but I had toy boards before that, like varaflex etc. I remember this era when popsicles took shape. I found it way easier to do tricks on popsicles and small wheels after skating 80s boards. Plus I was like 5 years into skating by 92. I saw the whole thing evolve and I still won't ride a reissue of some 80s board. My first real board was Roskopp 4, then a McGill, after that I had a Fred Smith Alva deck and its a blur after that. But by the time World took off I had tons of decks from like 91-94. The New Deal era really shaped street skating and how popsicles evolved, like a year or so before Questionable came out. That time was magical. Good representation with the Jim Theuabaud and Templeton deck. Those 2 were big street skaters in their etime frame.

That blender had more kick nose than that alva. the tri tail was cool, though.
@destroyedwood8 ай бұрын
Blender has a spoon nose. It’s not a kick. Concave nose.

I still think of popsicles as freestyle decks. Football/egg shape is the worst though.
@jonathanweir60848 ай бұрын
Yeah, even though what he showed at the end looked like a modern popscicle, these boards still would have different shapes from 97/98 and beyond. It's hard to describe but its true. Like really long noses, skinny and pointy tails or not too pointy.

What do you think about the renaissance of the football shape? I love the wide eggs from Heroin, really cool and functional in my opinion. I'd love to see more of brands offering this shape.

I'm watching with great interest.😀 Thanks for the History of Boards!🛹👍👍 But I wanted to ask, these are only street boards, but there were also freestyle boards, they are completely different small ones, right? 😮🙂))

Yeah. Not much freestyle board evolution. Would be a shorter video. 😃
