The expedition to the Western Lands is the kind of honor that comes once in a lifetime for a royal cartographer. But these are dangerous times. War ravages the land, and you are sure to encounter Dragul forces determined to thwart Queen Gimnax’s plans for western expansion.
Fortunately, brave heroes have risen to the defense of Nalos. Chart their deeds alongside the queen's edicts and secure your place in history.
Cartographers Heroes is the sequel to the critically acclaimed map-drawing game Cartographers. It includes all-new map sheets, scoring cards, explore cards, and ambush cards with unique abilities.
Cartographers Heroes can be played on its own or mixed with components from the original game for a greater variety of gameplay possibilities.

5.0 - My absolutely favorite games. You can pry them out of my cold dead hands.
4.5 - Love this game! At the same time missing something that would make it a 5. Could be hard to table, lacking variability, a little light, etc.
4.0 - Really great game, almost always keeping, although has meaningful complaints as to what takes away from the experience.
3.5 - Really enjoyed, don't love it, may lose out to better games but the idea of never playing again is a bit sad.
3.0 - A good game, would play and suggest with the right people, if I never played it again wouldn't lose any sleep.
2.5 - A game I'd play again , but will never suggest it myself
2.0 - A game I don't want to play again
1.5 - A game I can't find any reason to recommend
1.0 - A game that is just bad.

I loved the new maps. I also love that they offer the option to generate random maps on their website. This is one of my favorite flip and writes.

I was the one who recommended the colored pencils back in that other video, it makes the map look better and makes scoring at the end of rounds much faster. :) There are three more Cartographers map expansions coming for this later this year.

Nice, on the one hand good to hear... On the other hand, I don't know if I'm actually playing this game enough to justify it :-)

I backed the all-in deluxe on KS because the base game was a great experience during Covid on TTS. Plus! It came with sets of colored pencils! Everyone I have introduced the game to really enjoys it because it kind of feeds that elementary school enjoyment of coloring, there’s a puzzle, there is a small ‘take that’ element, and everyone is always interested to see how other people use the same information and come up with something different. People were disappointed when monsters never came out so we house rules to throw in an additional monster card at the beginning in order to increase the probability of at least one coming out.

I should try that with the monsters - everyone always gets disappointed when not enough monsters come out during the game.

I got this the other day (haven’t played the original before). I found the hero’s a little odd in solo mode, but it’s a really chill game to play. Would probably agree that if you have the original stick with it unless you’ve played it a ton and want the new goals. Really excited to teach my non-board game friends this one!

I got all that already is for Cartographers ans waiting for the next map packs. Really nice game to take to a group, quickly teach them the rules and the fun is great

Thank you for the review, Alex. I've only had the original for a short while, and really enjoy playing it solo as a game to unwind with in the evening. I had heard of Heroes, and was curious how it changed up the experience, so your opinions on it are much appreciated. From your explanation, it seems a bit unnecessary if you own the original, but maybe I'll pick it up when I see it at a discount, or to make a free shipping threshold on an order. Thanks for highlighting the map packs, I didn't even know they existed!

I feel ya on the map/pencil issue. I switched to colored pencils, but while it solved the visualizing my map state issue, I hate drawing. I play it solo on Tabletopia now and use the little virtual chits to fill the map and love it. Thanks for your review. I think I'm okay with just the base game until I get so many plays done that I have all of the base journey cards memorized and start planning out my moves based on what land types have what shapes available. I'm not that smart, so hopefully it'll never happen.

Hey anyone know what the name of the game in the back is? Bottom left, red and blue, with the skyscrapers? Thanks 😁🤞

I know that I don't need Heroes, having the base game. I'm still trying to get enough impressions of the map packs to decide which would provide something fresh and which people would want to return to. There are several new map packs in the works, so it looks like we'll have more to consider shortly.

I like playing Cartographers on the mobile app. I hope they eventually add the heroes and the map packs to the app. I would happily pay for them on there. I don't really see a need to own the physical version of this as I would probably only play it solo anyway

Great video (it’s kinda impressive that you’re able to talk so fast for 20 minutes and never go on any tangents or lose track of what you’re saying!), but the main question I had going into the video remains unanswered: for folks who don’t have either box, what’s the recommendation? Big the first one, or go straight to Heroes?

They are so close! I slightly prefer the original as the Ruins cards change your decisions quite a bit when drawing on the map. But on the other hand, the monsters in Cartographers Heroes are more interesting than the original game.

I played the original Cartographers Solo a lot. And I would love to have new shapecards... because now I know which shapes to expect... But the goals in Heroes seems to be more complicated. So I guess I pass

You are really good at over explaining a game, to the point that I loose interest in the game.
