Here is my home made boat loader system. In this video I show it operating (both loading & unloading) I created this system because my boat, a Lund WC12, weighs in at 205 pounds. Much too heavy for me to heave up on a truck rack by myself. I used an ATV winch welded to some square tube steel into my front receiver hitch. This allows me go camping with my toys! I also carry my dirt bike on the front of the truck on a motorcycle carrier. I created this because the fully automatic boat loaders cost $3000 or more and my system came in just over $500. You may view another video of the details of the boat loader system by clicking on the link at the end of the video or here - • How my home made boat ...

Great idea, instead of a front bumper mount winch which you would need to store I would weld a horizontal aluminum A-frame over the cab with support gussets from the front hoop and install pulleys to a winch installed on a horizontal cross member welded between the front hoop supports. This serves two purposes. It would protect the cab from accidental impact and allow you visually to see all moving parts. If the winch is mounted into a 2" receiver block it could be moved to the rear hitch point or otherwise to increase functionality. You could add outboard off road lights to the front hoop and under the A-frame as well if desired. Everything could easily be lifted off in two pieces for full functionality of the truck when not boating. Cheers

That is awesome!. Just throw a big tarp over it or buy a cheap tent from craigslist, cut out the floor, throw it over the top and you have truck bed tent with room to stand up. Brilliant!

Thanks for video Im going to add the same trac rac to my duramax. The rollers is a great idea ,I think you should move your rollers up front in about 2 to 3 inchs to protect your roof from damage. I sure you done this already thanks

Genius idea, but a $400 Harbor Freight trailer might be a better idea and an easier way to launch also.

You are right but the reason I do this is because I tow an RV trailer so I am unable to tow a boat. Check out my other vids.

If you move the boats lash points forward, that will move the pivot point forward too. This will keep more of the boat hanging off the back of the rack as the boat pivots to the horizontal position, and that will help things stay controlled and ease the lowering process.

Eide used to make these but you didn't need a front winch; they weren't that expensive either .You didn't even need to touch the boat once the snaps were connected it just did basically the same as this system but it was somewhat faster too

You could also tie a line ("painter") to the bow of the boat before lowering it and pull against the winch instead of having to get up into the bed of the truck and pushing it over. I'm trying to adapt this system to my 16' canoe (built to take a small motor on it's stern) and raise the canoe bottom up to the top of a contractor's rack on my '96 B2500 V10 D0dge! PS: Ignore the nay-sayers... whatever works!

Neat I think a bed extension for kayak that goes in the receiver and just pulls the boat up in the bed of the the truck would be far more efficient. That looks like a pain.

I have a Jon boat I throw on my ladder rack as well. Do you get sway when semis are passing or if you're too close behind with the boat up top? I tow a camper with the boats on the rack and the wind off the semis seems to start wiggling the boats because of the flex in the ladder rack. I have been thinking about support beams between the two racks to stop this.

Too much screwing around. The original boat loader with four ropes is far superior. One I built for my 97 F150 was low profile, still fit in my standard seven ft high garage door.

Good job but in my estimation... that is simply too much b.s. to go through everytime you want to use the boat. Not only loading it and unloading it but you have to do the same with the outboard motor and everything that you want in the boat to go fishing with. Just get a trailer instead and put a camper on your truck.
