I like those shocks. In my experience, mounting the shocks down by the hinge puts a lot of stress on the hinge and causes premature failure of materials. Mounting them in the middle of the sun pad gives more push on the way up and prevents it from slamming. Our Supra had all of the shocks mounted at the mid point of all of the hatches.

Was there anything behind the fiberglass on the lower bracket for the screws to anchor to? If I only have fiberglass will it be strong enough to support the shocks?

One with higher newton rate would work better as they are supposed to resist when you close the lid. Cheers

It's an issue. Shouldn't slam shut for sure. If hand in wrong place there could be a painfull outcome.

Expensive because it’s a marine supplier! Cost a lot less buying regular gas struts, nitride coated for 1/3 the price. Just sayin.
