We use our table a lot on our pontoon. We spend whole days out on the lake or lagoons, and we use it for picnic lunches. Much easier and cleaner to pack the lunch out for everyone to come grab. Its also an easy place to put the tackle boxes on when we fish.

A lot of good points in this video, BUT it all depends on how and where you use your boat. For me and my family, we use our pop up changing room with porta-potti all the time on our Premier pontoon boat. We're out on the water for hours a long ways away from our cabin, and it's nice to be able to relieve yourself without getting wet or change out of a swimsuit if the weather gets cold or if we go to a restaurant. Also, the bar is super nice for storing beverages instead of tripping over a cooler and for setting out drinks and snacks.

Great video and great advice. I will agree on the table. Our Sun Tracker came with one and we have never used it after 6 years. We do use the dressing curtain and the girls use the “bucket.” You have to store the curtain with care. We opted for the gas grill and like the table it has never been used. I may re-gift it for Christmas. Some factory boat covers are a rip off. Our Sun Tracker cover began to pop snaps the first time we use it. The factory replaced it but after a time it did the same.

Thank you for all the great videos! We use our table 50% of the time so it is useful to us. The head is used for storage. Our boat is very short to have a head with door (22.5 ft.). Large stereos, excessive lighting, and over use of “motor/computer controlled systems all drive me crazy. Just like cars/trucks, these systems are expensive and proved to fail.

Our table stays in place at the back of our pontoon at all times and is constantly used. Love the table! Also, we didn't want the changing room but (long story) we ended up with one for free. My daughter uses it almost every time we go on the boat, my wife has used it many times and even I have squeezed in there. They like to come to the boat in regular clothes and change into their bathing suits and then out of their wet bathing suits to head home.

We got a T Top and will be getting the shade extensions and a couple deck chairs for lounging. I have to find a cushion for the bow. We have a place for a small table so we do plan on getting one so we have a spot to eat when we decide it's a leisure day. Right on, some good advice. I always at least listen to what sales people have to say, or the advice they offer. They are not always greedy crooks (like the stereotype). Many have seen the many mistakes and pitfalls, and legitimately want you to be happy with your purchase. If I don't like the sales person, I don't deal with them.

Good points! We had a head on our 1997 Formula. We liked it and used it but I grew up on 36ft cruisers on lake Michigan which were critical and got used to the pump station so on a cruiser or Formula where you can use a pump system, they work great. On a Pontoon or Tritoon... NOPE! No way!

Children are an important option. They are the source of future boaters (and great designated "drivers" LOL. The blue LED captain's console lights are cool at the boat show but bad for your night vision. They should be red. The changing room with a porta potti can be pretty handy at times, especially if you are on the water all day and not on your "home lake". We love our Magma Monterey infrared grille. We use it a lot! Great video. The best comment was "what I can't afford is junk". That is so true in boating. If your boat is big enough to take a thing and you have the money to float that thing then who is to say it isn't essential. It doesn't matter how big your boat is or how well it is kitted out a bigger better one is going to moor up alongside. The only counter that I have to this is to build my own boat. The level of smugness in using your own self built boat is off the scale. You can park up beside anything and ask "how long did it take you to build yours"? My boat may only be 17 feet long which is shorter than the width of your boat and I'm not sure why I added the helipad..... it makes my boat top heavy, and I don't have a helicopter.

All good points but in the end it all depends on how you use your boat. My first boat was a cuddy with a head. Got used once and after that I made anyone that wanted to use it clean it. Never got used again and just took up valuable space. For me and the way we boat now (typically 4 to 8 hours on a lake) all of the things you mentioned are not only a waste of money but worse, take up space. I know a lot of people will feel differently but of the four boats I've owned, I only used my bimini top twice and the one I have now is sitting in my attic and it better shape than anything on the boat since it's brand new

As your experience is from the other side of the curtain, eg, the boat dealer back office, this discussion would be enhanced if you can share with the boat buyer (but nevertheless looking at their future sell day); what value do the options below add/detract to the trade-in value a dealer gives a seller, and to saleability of the boat to a prospective future boat buyer if the seller tries to sell it himself: 1. Head Compartment 1a. Portapotty vs pump out 2. Wake Tower vs Bimini 3. 19-21 ft vs 23ft or longer length 4. snap in floor coverings vs bare sole 5. Windlass on a lake 6. Chlorox bottle-white hull vs colored sides 5. I/O motor vs Outboard Thanks for any insight you can share

The flybridge grill has to be the most overrated option. Maybe its nice if youre chartering/paying a crew of a 90 foot yacht and got your private chef and waiter but if youre owner-operating, its just wasted space. You'll use it once, and never again. You have to get the ingredients up there, plates, glasses, etc. And back down. And then the cleaning. Like many others on this list, its one of those features thats used to sell the boat on the showroom floor

Im very much a stereo guy when it comes to my truck but the boat I have on order I wasn't to worried. I may upgrade the system in it over time but it'll be more toward sound quality than volume. Sound really travels on a lake (Im a fresh water guy). That said, anyone who doesn't want to listen to the Jimmy Buffett Im playing is wrong and needs to change their taste in music lol. If I was buying a boat for off shore (or sandbar) or even Great Lakes usage, I'd likely have a different take on that. I'm in Alberta Canada but Ontario is where I'll be doing most of my boating/fishing. I could see the BBQ having its time and place but for shore lunches I'm more than happy to just find an island and go on shore. Canadian Shield lakes are some of the most beautiful you'll ever find!

Matt. Most often I agree with what you say in your video, HOWEVER, there is one topic you mentioned in this video I disagree with. ELECTRIC POWER BIMIN'S - These electric bimini's have been on the market for nearly 15 years. We've sold hundreds of them and I rarely have issues. They are VERY dependable (Not Perfect, but who is?) In Minnesota, most pontoons are kept on a boat lift with a canopy. To have the ability to raise and lower the bimini with a touch of a button as your going in or out of the boat lift is AWESOME. In addition, some of these 10 ft or 12 ft bimini's are big and heavy and difficult to open/close or lower manually. Especially when you're getting to my age. LOL We have had nothing but positive comments from our customers regarding Electric Power Bimini's. They love how easy it is to raise and lower it.

It seems the focus of this video is on bow riders and pontoons, which makes the case that for most folks, neither is the best overall choice, especially compared to even a small cruiser or even a cuddy. A head will definitely extend your day on the water and even is useful sitting in the marina which may have a nasty restroom, far from the boat. I never used my sink until the past year because it was broken, now I regret not having it fixed years ago because use it’s useful, especially if you’re doing any grilling and a bar is almost essential for a fun day. A small flat screen TV also is good for lengthening the day because instead of having to leave the marina to go watch a game and cutting your day in half, you watch it and when it’s over, go back to enjoying the water. Finally the political flags are great because it identifies people I may want to stay away from, same for the phallic speaker boaters!

It's interesting how people use dock lights as head lights on the water, they make it obvious they are rookies. If you can't understand how to navigate in the dark you should return to port at sunset. Been boating for most of my life. I always want that bigger nicer boat then logic and reasoning kicks in and I seem to have a trailer boat. EFI is one of the best modern engine features. In my opinion if you are not mechanical inclined type of person boating may not be for you. There are owners guides that should be read cover to cover. It's obvious many people don't even open them

ugh, you know lights (light bars, anchor lights, leds, etc..) can be turned off when underway? Right? But you have an extremely visible boat when they are on at night anchor. So, I disagree with that one...

Excellent subject and fact based content but IMO I’d modify your top overrated option based on my experience. Having a holding tank with pump out on any boat other than large cruisers is absolutely ridiculous however, having a simple closed system, removable porta pot in a small comfortable compartment like those in front of the passenger of most medium sized deck boats and bow riders is the way to go. Easy cleanup and never a stinkin holding tank. We use our porta pot often and it’s been worth having the head compartment on our 26 bowrider. The head compartment sink is definitely a total waste. If I could have ordered our boat without it and the manufacturer use the space for storage much better. I would have placed the cockpit wet bar as the dumbest most waste of an option for this list.

Hello, thank you for your advice! May I ask if you've taken your boat into the ocean for fishing purpose and if it handled open seas very well? I know most bow riders are more for towing tubes and ski's, lazing around for a calm day on the lake with family, but if one was prepared to use it for fishing as well and risk getting the leather or vinyl trim dirtied, I'm just curious to know if it can do it.

@@milkshakemuncher Hello. We just sold a 31 Renegade with twins that is made in Miami for rough water. It had a pump out head with holding tank. I disconnected all the plumbing and switched out the porcelain head to a porta pot. We have downsized to a Monterey M65 which has a 20 degree dead rise so not a true deep vee but close. It’s a heavy boat and handles normal wake traffic and light wave action very well. Would I take it through Haulover Inlet while the tide is flowing, hell no. Even though I’m a recreational fisherman I won’t fish off my boat. I dont want fish slime and blood over premium vinyl plus don’t want an errant cast ruining a seat with a stuck hook. I’ve heard dealers refer to bowriders in the 24-26 range as bay boats that are better operated in sheltered waters. We run on the St Lawrence River which can get really snotty. The boat can handle it but not the most comfortable for some passengers when 2’ plus waveaction. On a calm day and depending on wave frequency smaller boats can operate on the open ocean but it’s all a matter of being mindful of the weather conditions.

I’m surprised by how many comments support the electric Bimini. The Bimini takes 5 seconds to set up. Is it really worth the money to save 4 seconds? 😂

Some tables seem like an afterthought, and probably get in the way. But, I have to have a flat surface to make lunch or tackle. Most overrated is the stereo. Why would you want music on your boat? Don't you have a phone and ear buds? How do you hear the motor, the wind, other boaters, your wife and kids, someone going overboard? Do you not realize how much your stereo upsets other people, animals, fish, birds? FO with that noise lol. To the people who think stabilizers are only for people who "can't take it" -- most of your offshore experience has been in your head. No not that one, the one on your shoulders. Anyone who tells me they don't get seasick is really telling me they haven't spent much time offshore. If you are a freshwater lake boaters then yeah, you shouldn't need one.

100% agree with light bars, stereos, children and political flags being overrated! I dont need to know a person's politics while out trying to have a good time and all it does is create tension while everyone is out trying to have a good time!! People underestimate how far sound travels when they have that loud music playing and it only ruins the boating experience for everyone else!

It took me a second to stop & readjust my thought process to the types of boats you were talking about. I might debate the table as one of the early comments did, where a permanent table on a toon large enough to have multiple seating areas makes sense. The rest on day cruise type boats can easily be addressed by going ashore and lighted cup holders just don't need to be addressed at all. If you have a boat that can go offshore 4-plus hours, a head becomes more of an issue, but in the boats you are describing, they're are usually claustrophobic...and smelly.

Disagree with you opinion on Trump flags. First off, the subject of this video is "Most Overrated Options." Hanging a Trump flag is not a boat "option" like installing a Bimini top or underwater lights. It's a personal statement. Most Trump supporters feel that we do not have a voice in anything anymore these days. Hanging a Trump flag is one of the last remaining areas where we have any voice in. By saying that boats should remove their Trump flags and stay a-political, you are essentially making a political statement. You obviously have a lot of experience with boating and the mechanical aspects of boating. May I suggest you stick to those areas rather than opine on what others do with their personal boat decoration. It's really not your place or your waterway to comment on.
