Thanks Chuck. I miss Ann too. Pray she's doing well. I know you miss him. We were buddies, starting in the 90's. Allyson Taylor in Nashville introduced us, and we worked together. The last time I saw Bob and Ann, was at dinner with me and my husband. We live a couple of hours from Nashville. Thanks for responding:-)

James Jamerson was one of the greatest bass players ever!! He was the most influential bass players inspiring countless numbers of bass players. I often wonder what would have happened if there was no James Jamerson. No Stanley Clarke,no Jaco Pastorius,probably no many bass players. When you say bass,you must say JAMES JAMERSON!! And to think that among all of the signature models Fender has,yet it has no Jamerson model. Shame on you Fender!!
@minderoded2383
@minderoded2383 8 жыл бұрын
Actually I think they very briefly did do a Jamerson signature model in the 80s. For all intents and purposes, his sig model is the '62 reissue P bass. Nowadays, it's the American vintage '63 precision in sunburst. Throw some la bella flats on that and you have the funk machine.

James was obviously a humble soul, but with a God-given gift that he was good enough to share with all the rest of us. He never made it rich yet.....but somehow gave away enough to make millions of us each a little richer. And how can you top a life like that?

He is one of the few bass players whose opening bass riff on a song immediately identifies the song. Marcus Miller demonstrated this at one of his concerts when he played two note of "Papa was a rolling stone" and everyone knew what song he was going to play. His contribution to the success of Motown will always be a part of it.

James was a genius the way Einstein and Newton were in their fields. He crated Bach like melody out of thin air like Charlie Parker did. His work was blaring out of the speakers everywhere you went. Bass players knew. Musicians knew. But the industry that owed him so much heartlessly ignored him. The people have finally come to understand - after he left this world - that he is the greatest bassist who ever played and one of the great geniuses of music.

The universe needs more Bob Babbits. As for James…there will never be another. His magic resonated those 6x9 mono AM radio dashboard car speakers like no other. Now I have been playing bass 50 years. When I was young I thought his playing was noodling. I simply could not understand the complexities, heart, and soul. His solid rhythm, unpredictable syncopation and melodic variation were so far beyond the norm. Because of him I will always own at least one classic sunburst P Bass. A presentation as important as this deserves better production. The lighting sucked. The video sucked. The audio sucked. For the love of God hire professionals.

Bob is too kind. Jamerson was great , no doubt but Bob held his own replacing him. While jamerson is great, in my opinion, no one is better on the bass than Tommy Cogbill ! He put the funk in the bass. He’d dip his playing hand n Vaseline so to make the bass bounce. Look him up. Other great bass players are Larry Graham , Richard Finch, David Hood, Duck Dunn, Bill Wyman , Jerry Scheff, but Cogbill stood above them all, hear him on “ Respect “, “ Wearin The Loved On look “, “ Sweet Inspiration”, “ Funky Broadway “. But he could also play on country, jazz, pop, anything you wish ! But still much respect to Jamerson !
