Just listening to Babbitt and Jamerson did more to teach me how to play bass than any lessons I ever had. Thank you so much Mr. Babbitt!

This performance was icing on the cake of a day when Bob was awarded a Lifetime Achievement award from Duquesne Univ. and the mayor proclaimed it Bob Babbitt day for the city of Pittsburgh, his hometown.

Beautiful Bob ...A Funk Brother. Check him out on Standing in the Shadows of Motown. A truly sweet man. James Jamerson is probably better known but Bob is just as much of the heart and soul of Motown.

wow. just stumbled on this by chance. i have played many a social function in my day and this video proves how so few play these songs correctly. Bob shows how it is done. Really amazing how the proper bass lines/stye make it happen.

Babb blessed so many people. He was a rare non egomaniac. I was so blessed to work with him at his home and on the studio. Me and him and Scattie, Scat Springs hung out often. Miss those days!

Is it just me noticing that Mr. Babbitt is definitely not feeling well. He hurts and yet such dedication. You are right Cory Bates. A true legend indeed. God has all the best with Him now. Do not take this out of context but it is making wish I was up there listening to all the greatness. :-) Cheers!!!

Bob's playing the prototype of his Bob Babbitt Signature Bass from Fender, which was never released. Sadly when he passed, Fender changed gears and released it as an other artist's signature bass.

Effortless like it was inevitable. I'm wondering, what that white thing was under the top/G string, down at the nut? Maybe, maybe... it was some thin foam to mute the G, possibly the D string, too? Perhaps the nut slot was messed up and he has a piece of paper under the string in the nut groove to compensate... I don't even like my best guesses here; they don't make enough sense. 1. Muting is usually done at the bridge. 2. I don't believe Bob Babbitt would perform with an instrument that isn't in 100% tip top setup condition.

Nonsense. Bob Babbitt looks likes he is enjoying himself and the singer in the middle was very humble about having such a great player behind him. So quit making such negative judgements.
