THE one & only, the greatest mixer of all time, actually THE one who made & defined the concept of the "mixer" as a dedicated sonic & creative specialist - and he did it not by web bullcrap or egoflogging or "influencing"' or "youtubeing", but well before all that, he did it by the sheer quality of his work and by tangible dedication to his craft. And, being the supermodest, humble guy he is (as this interview and all others before it prove), it's no surprise that while others are very evidently trying hard to push Atmos and thus ensure all the system sales, speaker sales, and assorted necessary gear sales that are at stake here, and trying hard to convince us all that Atmos is a thing of beauty even on headphones, Bob is just doing it his way, for himself, and for a better sonic experience at his, very high sonic & artistic evel. In a nutshell, once again he is in a league of his own - and he is for real. 👍👍👍👍👍 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I would LOVE to hear some of bob's recollections about mixing the live aid show in philly in 85. that must have been a thrill and an incredible challenge, and hearing the recording i think he did an awesome job! very curious about the gear he used, what the mixing environment was (remote truck i suppose) and how it all went down in general. if you could ask him the next time i'd appreciate it ;) and if not - i still love all your content, thank you very much!!!

What a fascinating video. What I found most interesting was his approach to mixing surround in general. It sounds like he's not trying to put you in the middle of the stage and do unnatural things like putting instruments all around you, but rather he is using the atmos as a tool to make the experience even more natural by surrounding you with "room".

Bob is the GOAT! Great to hear him talk about his rig. And it's amazing how humble he still is after all the impact he has made. He is kind of right about Atmos and movies. It is great technology which enhances playback tailored to the actual playback setup, allowing for better translations in theatres of various sizes and speaker arrays. In music, there is still plenty of things which could be objects. The question is how much you want to rely on objects. I think Andrew Scheps is using lots of objects, I prefer to just work with the bed basically. Especially in the context of music, if you are used to having a chain on your masterbus, object based mixing in Atmos makes that a total nightmare as objects don't get through the masterbus. I'm very happy that someone of the caliber of Bob Clearmountain is admitting he just basically works with the beds and that is totally sufficient for what he wants to do with minimum object use. Curious to hear his mixes in Atmos (or 5.1 for that matter).

Very nice Warren 👏🏻 I contacted Bob out of nowhere some years ago, just before he left Connecticut and relocated to L.A.-I think. At the time, I was just getting into mixing and production. H and I exchanged a few short e-mails and he even included a touch of sarcasm and humor. I appreciated that he took a moment or two out of his busy life to communicate with a complete new-be and nobody. I know a few people who have met Bob, and they all say what a humble down-to-earth guy he is. As always, thank you 🙏🏻

I like his workflow for Atmos. So many seem to only use ProTools, but you don't have to go with that, I run Bitwig into the Dolby Atmos Renderer in real-time and it works fine. It seems like he probably lives without the realtime metadata side of the object panning and divergence without a 3D panner in the console until later in the workflow once in protools. Cool interview, many thanks.

I’m always curious about what Shelly is up to. He was still sorting his new place last we saw and developing HQ audio for portable devices. This was great, right there at the helm with Bob himself. Lucky you, Warren. Thanks, and yes the Muddy Waters video also got a 👍.

Episode idea for you! When we are producing we often hire and work with others such as songwriters, vocalists, musicians etc. I am interested in hearing from a music attorney or similar about some basic things we might think about when we are working on our productions with others. Pointers to easy collab contracts or other things would be great too! Heck this would be a great class for PLAP!

Hey Guys. Great information (not that I know what to do with it, but it gave me some ideas... And yes, sadly, keyboards in the back. . . . My lot. ;) Enjoyed it! Thanks Bob and PLAP Dude!

Listening to Joe Bonamassa. It really helped me with panning Instruments like Organ sounds large at the low keys but how does it sounds right when Bob touches it? He's absolutely magical. Warren would like to see you interview one of my favourite "Humberto Gatica".
