Dylan's JOKERMAN is absolutely amazing both lyrically AND musically. On the "Infidels" album he has a GREAT back up band. The best of his career. Sly and Robbie in the rhythm section and Knopfler on guitar among others.

Love that one a lot too. He was on a roll in the 80’s with Infidels, and later doing Traveling Wilburys and touring with the Dead too. He and Garcia worked well together - love the album “Dylan and The Dead”.

Unfortunately, the studio version of that one always gets struck down. Reactors end up reacting to a less-than-stellar live version with an odd arrangement which just isn't quite as good as the studio cut.

I remember when this album came out, and it was surprising to hear this soul and gospel sound from Bob Dylan. This 'born-again' phase lasted two albums, and it's as true today as it was from the beginning of mankind - 'You gotta serve somebody'... 🙄 😳 🙏 ♥ 🎤 🎶...

Your love of Bob Dylan is wonderful....you need to do more from his backing band in the early days, The Band The Weight The Shape I'm In Ophelia It Makes No Difference Dixie You should watch the documentary The Last Waltz and react to each song in order. You would be exposed to some of music's greatest artists helping The Band say farewell

Did you know that Bob won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016? Part of the citation reads "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition". He became a Christian in the late 70s and took five months off to attend a discipleship school run by the Association of Vineyard Churches. This song is from the first album he recorded after that, his Christian themed "Slow Train Coming". When he returned to touring in 1978 and until early 1980 he only performed his faith based songs, refusing to perform any of his previous secular material. I have a great 2 CD set named "Trouble No More" that is a collection of those songs performed in concert. If you're not aware of it I highly recommend it.

I highly recommend All of his gospel material from Shot of Love, Slow Train Coming and Saved. Especially covers of these songs. Gospel at its best. Bob truly is "The Oracle" in all his styles and formats. A Jewish guy that became a Christian and wrote some of the best gospel songs ever written. Thanks for the amazing reaction and comments.

Dylan at his grooviest. The best, bar none, collection of Dylan live is at The Budokan. Superb; every track has the fab backing vocals used here. So many songs you got to hear. Simple Twist of Fate; Positively 4th Street; Silvio; One More Cup of Coffee; I'll be your Baby Tonight; Stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again; Desolation Row the list just goes on on and on.

Great album. The title tune off this album is pretty cool. The depth of his song book is very deep and worth exploring.... and Yes Chod, he is one of the best lyricists you've ever heard... so much so he won the Pulitzer and the Nobel Prize for Redefining Boundaries of Literature.

I just saw Dylan in Seville Spain. I’ve seen him several times over the years and even saw him with the dead same years ago. He’s never been great live. It was a day or two before his 82nd birthday amd he was absolutely amazing! Set list, venue, musicians and no cell phones in the audience. It was just great! Best show I’ve ever seen him play.

Another 8-track I had..WOW, you're really aging me here Chod. Always loved this one. "Lay, Lady Lay" and "The Jokerman" are also 2 great tunes. On "Lay, Lady Lay" Drummer Kenny Buttrey has said that he had a difficult time coming up with a drum part for the song. Dylan had suggested bongos, while producer Bob Johnston said cowbells. In order to "show them how bad their ideas were", Buttrey used both instruments together. Kris Kristofferson, who was working as a janitor in the studio at the time, was enlisted to hold the bongos in one hand and the cowbell in the other. Buttrey moved the sole overhead drum mic over to these new instruments. When he switches back to the drums for the choruses the drumset sounds distant due to not being directly mic'd. The take heard on the album is the first take and is one of Buttrey's own favorite performances.

This is a regular tune in my local bar-band song rotation. Thanks for your commentary on the "crap commentary." I showed some music to my kids when they were real young, and they shared their music with me as they got older and I even made playlists featuring their favorite bands. Jack White, Mutemath, Black Keys were a few I got to be fans of and being open kept the door open without judgement.

Yeah, 'When he Returns' is my favourite song from Bob's album 'Slow Train Coming'. Other great 'religious' songs by Bob are: 'Pressing on', 'What can I do for you' and, of course, 'Every Grain of Sand'.

Really glad you took a look into this time period of Dylan. He has played in just about every genre, sung with a wide variety of techniques, and consistently written interesting material. In the popular lexicon, he's seen as a wheezy folk singer or a pre-psychedelic blowhard, but the deeper you dig, the more versatile his music is. Kudos for giving the time and respect to explore his catalogue, and for sharing it with your viewers.

Ballad of a Thin Man. You’ll like it. Once again Bob is singing about a person(s) who pissed him of. Maybe a reporter or critic. I think Dylan’s best are when he’s scorching someone who’s on his bad side. Side note: you have a great channel.

One of my favorite Dylan songs too, because it says you can't stay on the sidelines in life. You can't pretend to stay out of every conflict and just isolate yourself. No matter how hard you try, the things you do are going to either help or hurt someone out there. You have to choose.

This is one of my favourite albums. For being a new convert to Christianity at the time, he had a very good grasp of theology and orthopraxy. I would put this album up against anything in the mainstream 'Christian music' industry. You might try something off Dylan's 'Desire' album--just close your eyes and pick any song on that album--they are all sold gold.

Hey man, you must listen to Slow Train Coming ....the title song of the album. There are a few real gems but the whole damn album is amazing. Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits played lead guitar on this record. Stay safe my man. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Rock on brother.

I have been watching reactions for about a year now. Yours is the first I've found with reactions to Bob Dylan, one of my favorites (of which are many because of my eclectic musical tastes). This is the fourth of your reactions to Bob Dylan to which I've listened. I noticed each one is different in style, as you are tasting all of his diversity. I love it that you have a jazz background. I haven't been able to find any reactions to real jazz yet. I suppose you know too much of the jazz artists' works, so you couldn't claim to be hearing any of them for the first time. I would love to hear reactions to jazz performances. My favorite jazz style is cool jazz. If I ever see any reactions to jazz artists, I shall definitely watch and listen. Thank you for reaching out and discovering various genres.

Hey Huck, fellow Dylan fan here, another great song not enjoyed enough is “Ballad of a thin man” . Dylan’s contempt for the “out of touch” press and news media that scorned him for going electric and leaving the purist folk scene. Mr Jones was the typical “uneducated on the topic” newsman or critic.

His first four albums are life changing for me. How did God give this man so much talent is beyond me...lol. So glad that your a kindred soul like myself. Yeah I gotta admit I too was a Dylan zealot during my education of Bob (Robert Zimmerman) Dylan. Like a kid with a new bike I just wanted to show him off to anyone who would recognize his greatness. Reflecting back I now know that many songs are private and between “Bob and me”. It’s okay to be selfish with the songs that deal you a mortal blow or lift you from a pit. Dylan can also be a personal moment and has become a dear friend in many times of solitude. What a magnificent library of songs. Right now I’m listening to “New Pony”. I can’t help but think he’s talking about Joan Baez his ex.

It's just been the last 8 months since my soul mate died, that I realize the feelings I get from these guys is, and should be, private, between the band and myself. As Deadheads, my love and I used to fly and drive all over the country, the UK, Jamaica and Mexico and I used to try to explain to people why we were spending so much money to go "see some old, washed up rock band". Then after he died 8 months ago, I realized, it's none of anyone's business why we would fly all over to see concerts, and the people you have to explain this to are never going to get it and probably shouldn't be a part of your life anyway. 😊 PS... Bob recently sold his catalog of songs he has written to Universal ,it contains around 600 songs.He is irreplaceable .

This is what rappers wanna be when they grow up …. Great statement. Love this. I read that it was recorded at Muscle Shoals. There is a documentary on Muscle Shoals and I highly recommend watching. 🙂💕

I just rewatched this reaction, it is simply one of the best reactions to bob Dylan I have ever seen, but what I really love is you saying" Bob Dylan is who rappers want to be when they grow up" just a brilliant quote which I will definitely be using in my everyday life, I would love to see you react to The Chicago mass Choir singing the Bob Dylan song Pressing On, it is one of Bob's best gospel songs and the Chicago mass Choir and Dottie peoples really lift into becoming an all time classic gospel song. Also I don't think you've done Tom Waits yet and I think of you love Bob Dylan you love Tom Waits, I am sure you have had suggestions for Tom Waits so feel free to follow up on previous request but if you want mine I would suggest Tom Trauberts Blues live at Rockpalast, The Piano has been drinking, Ruby's arms ( about the saddest song ever written), On The nickel, Chocolate Jesus Live Version. One of my all time favorite Dylan tunes. I had it on 8-track. That should tell you how long I've been a Dylan fan. 2 other favorites "Lay Lady Lay" and "The Jokerman"

Great Album with so many great Songs - Bob Dylan has sustained and pushed Lyrical Driven Music for some 60 Years now .. Just when you think you know him, he goes to another Style, Genre, and pushes the envelop - Check out his Recent work at the Age of his 70’s still very creative and mind stimulating which is what a true Artist does

Dylan had a lot of very deep lyrics. A lot of people miss that in his songs. You've got love people who just look at someone and instantly assume they grew up on a certain genre of music. There's ignorant people out there.

I appreciate you listening to Bob. A lot of younger people don't understand how influential he was to a generation. He brought civil rights to the forefront for young white kids. He was with and played at MLK's million man march. Listen to a few early tunes like " Only a Pawn in their Game", "The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll". Move forward and sample some of his later stuff from "Love and Theft" and "Time Out of Mind". Thanks for doin what you do.....

Bob Dylan, serving up some truth in his inimitable way. This is a magnificent song. Thank you for choosing it; thank you for your your insightful reaction. Chod, I hope you can shake off the haters. They have nothing worthwhile to say. And, you are absolutely right - there is good and not so good music in every genre.
