Once again, thank you to Stereo Masters ( / stereomasters ) for restoring this relic.
This was recorded on February 1, 1964, at CBC TV Studios in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, for the show "Quest". This episode is a 30-minute exhibit of Dylan's music (the rest of which I will be uploading gradually) and was also the show's final episode. Subsequently, the producer of "Quest", Daryl Duke, quit CBC and moved to Los Angeles, CA to work on "The Steve Allen Show", where Dylan coincidentally appeared a month after his "Quest" performance (see this appearance here: • Bob Dylan Interview & ... ).
Here are the other upgraded tracks I've produced from his "Quest" appearance:
• Bob Dylan - Restless F...
• Bob Dylan - The Loneso...
In addition to Stereo Masters, many thanks to Markie for giving me this 2005 digital transfer of an original 16mm kinescope. From that, Stereo Masters worked their magic to create this beautiful upgrade.
Peace & Love,
~SP

I like the live version from 1965 where he goes "I turned on my record player....it was...donovan...who ever that was". The whole crowd erupted into laughter.

@@raindeerprojekt4119 Thanks :) I’m a songwriter who’s won several awards here in Australia. Those are nice memories of yours. I never understood Dylan’s need to humiliate Donovan. If he didn’t like Donovan being influenced by his style, what does that say about Dylan’s mimicking of Woody Guthrie?

Dylan’s songwriting skills were practicality other worldly. When he was asked where those amazing lyrics came from, he said , “If you listen to words like these: Darkness at the break of noon Shadows even the silver spoon The handmade blade, the child's balloon Eclipses both the sun and moon To understand you know too soon There is no sense in trying. Pointed threats, they bluff with scorn Suicide remarks are torn From the fools gold mouthpiec,” Dylan said, “Well there’s no way I cane up with words like that .” He was asked, “Well then who write them.” He replied, “ I made a deal with God.” He didn’t say. “God,” but it seemed pretty obvious. His greatness is unequaled.

Thanks so much for restoring and posting. This is priceless footage - so unique. Most people still had Black and White TVs then - only wealthy people had the 1st color TVs. The stage sets for the singing performances were so funny when looking back 60 years. Yesterday I was watching an early Beach Boys performance on Ed Sullivan, and they were singing "I Get Around" in front of 3 "Classic Cars" that older teens worked on the open top front engine which was "cool" then and boys paraded around in to show off and to pick up girls. The stage settings seem surreal to me over a half century later.

I think his genius (an error maybe) in the early days of his career was to develope a caracter more than having only good songs (i don't say they are bad -they were just different by choice). Despite being label the "protest singer", there was a real diversity of topics covered in his second LP: I mean, he wasn't a 100% protest singer. Yes, he had protest songs (Blowin in the wind, Master of War and Hard Rain) but he also talked about nostalgia (Girl from the North Country, Bob Dylan's Dream), his heartbreak (Don't think twice, Corrina Corrina) and he was very funny (Honey Just allow me, Shall be Free). To me, The song (Talkin WWIII Blues) is very clever cause it's at the crossroad between a funny song and a protest one. those funny songs (less craft than a song like Hard Rain obviously) are quite underestimated and played, to my mind, a huge part of his success cause they helped him introduction himself to his audience. He was able with that to create an personnal link with his audience stronger than his songs. Therefore, in his concert, he was able to move people and then make them laugh in a matter of minutes. (Bootleg 6 - amazing performance for example) But, by creating this personnal link with his audience the problem was that they were now 2 different things: Bob Dylan and the idea of Bob Dylan (created by his fans). And his fans went nuts with the "Voice of the Generation" idea (kind of a cult of personnality in a way) in 65-66 and he boldly went against them.
