ABC’s literally most popular content now and almost forever is ‘legacy’ type broadcast content- in the 90’s it was Family Matters and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. Tons of people were watching Castle, people are still watching obviously Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and most of the shows that Shonda Rhimes made for them. It’s kinda silly for them to move away from this model.

I think the word you were looking for Jonas is parasitical. Until the various streaming services show that they can stand on their own two feet. Their parasitical relationship with linear TV shows will limit their ability to ever show a net profit
@jonfreeman9682
@jonfreeman9682 13 күн бұрын
Maybe it's the accounting. Instead of trying to show it stands on its own two feet they should cost share it with linear TV and turn a parasitic into a symbiotic relationship. They should look at cross licensing deals with other streamers on a limited time basis that may not be cannibalistic as their customers were never gonna signup with Disney plus anyways. So this could be an additional revenue stream. Plus they should look at a la carte pricing for rentals for people who don't want to subscribe.

Shout out for Little House! Syndication was made possible by Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. I Love Lucy was a gamble and they owned the episodes, which became valuable for syndication as they were the highest quality at the time since they were filmed instead of kinescopes. More reason to still love Lucy, even more than 70 years later

Streaming with ads is the antithesis of what we all were so excited about 13 years ago. Pay the 3 extra dollars, it’s the same arguments as if you can’t tip at a restaurant you shouldn’t go out. In the 90s a Disney VHS set you back $24.99, CDs were $15. LPs were $20. I don’t think that any streaming service is overpriced, the music ones are dirt cheap and are killing the industry it claims it’s supporting. - rant over. Signed, one of the Golden Girls.

Fallout is the only show I've seen recently that did the "short" season well. You could see the budget on the screen it was premium content. But what people want more of that we're not getting anymore of is long season shows with smaller budgets. We're not only missing sitcoms but scifi shows like Stargate SG-1, Star Trek, Farscape, etc. which looked good but had more reasonable budgets with 20 episode seasons.

I miss the days of 20+ episode seasons that had a mix of standalone and serialized story shows. 6-12 episodes a season is not enough. Bob and the other studio executives need to stop chasing quick record growth opportunities and throw money at franchise building. They could make another DS9, Lost, or House if they wanted to.

In an era where thanks to over the air channels like metv, broadcast tv has proven it still has worth. Disney is incredibly short sighted & stupid! Especially with a failing streaming service being propped up as better than it actually is.

For years now, Bob has trumpeted Streaming as the "Big Thing to Modernize Disney." Not only was it supposed to be a cash cow in its own right, but they were going to data-mine it for products, IP, "Experiences", etc., in the parks and with their merchandising. Now, with Disney bleeding funds, he's finally facing the fact that they have to start cutting. But to admit that his pet project, "Streaming," is failing is beyond his pride's ability, so he has to cut production in something else. And Linear TV & its subordinates is close enough to studio production that perhaps he thinks no one will recognize how completely different it is. "It's all just made for video, right? TV and Streaming are just different ways to view the same product, so why fund both?" So he's making the cuts in something that sounds similar so his Streaming obsession can continue unabated. And thus his pride remains unscathed.

Disney will lose money. So long as linear TV has the ability to record you can have the best of both worlds. Commercials and content on demand from library.

It's the same thing why he got rid of the DVD see the reason why streaming on Disney isn't the greatest is because people already have their Disney library on Blu-ray why the hell would I want to spend $10 or $13 or $15 on Disney plus when I have a Disney video library. And that's why he's doing it with the TV but he doesn't understand it has nothing to do with that we just don't want to watch your crappy ass programming

They are destroying the most successful model of Cinema to home video to cable to streaming. They won't slow the churn as long as they're cutting back major content releases. They're cutting from the network, but a tremendous amount of 'new" Disney"+ content is straight from broadcast TV. They need to rehabilitate the brands and take a step back on their business model. They were all about synergy, but when they brought out Lightyear with the gay element and the completely unnecessary recasting the voice of Buzz all they needed to do was make a short showing Andy and the effect seeing the film had on him. They own multiple broadcast and cable networks and multiple streaming services. It would have been simple to introduce us to the film that inspired the toy. But, for whatever reason, they were cheap, lazy or void of imagination.
