On paper WESTCOT was interesting, but in reality l feel that it fell short. However, it certainly was better than DCA 1.0, mostly in visuals (thematic elements). DCAs name change was in time for the 2012 additions

I don’t get how Disney is able to expand or make anything new? Don’t they owe like a trillion dollars to Florida?

Interesting…. After watching this video I went to the Disneyland Forward site. Guess what it says now ….. “With DisneylandForward approved and an updated approach, these exciting new lands and attractions coming to Tokyo DisneySea could be the perfect inspiration for the future of Disneyland Resort.”

Having nice new hotels & shops are great… as long as you have people who want to fill the parks. But if they’re just “Disney Motel 6”… not really worth investment

This might be the first time I've disagreed with you guys. This Disneyland Forward was to maximize the allowable height, density and uses for parcels. These are building envelopes and setbacks. As we know the final product is usually off the mark when compared to the Blue Sky now days. If Disneyland Forward had been approved back in 2010, we could have seen better version of the California resort than the placement that we see of Galaxy Edge today. DCA definitely needs to substantial additions to close the gap to it's neighbor to the north. No bait and switch here, Disney just needed to define the canvas before this could be painted.

A KZfaqr, Hey Brickey, did a great job breaking down how the space West of the Parks, would be used to expand both. And he also explained what he thought Disney would do with both. It would be great to invite him on your channel and discuss with both of you and see where the 3 of you land.

Great call out on DVC. I think the "deregulation" of "timeshare" properties was the secret thing they really really wanted. They just went through that process with the DLH Tower they clearly want to do that again and quickly.

They just used ideas like ‘Avatar’ to get approval. Most of the money will go to parking, hotels, and shopping/merchandise - increasing revenue rather than enhancing guest experience

Are these the new shows for for the new audience.? Should be a winning strategy, as soon as the new modern audience turns up. Admittedly they have been a tardy lot so far, but they're coming, everyone says so.

I miss the days of 20+ episode seasons that had a mix of standalone and serialized story shows. 6-12 episodes a season is not enough. Bob and the other studio executives need to stop chasing quick record growth opportunities and throw money at franchise building. They could make another DS9, Lost, or House if they wanted to.

I don't pay extra to ride the rides. If I can get on a stand by queue, I'll ride. But no Genie+ for me. I really just go for the food and the merch, anyway. Merch being said, I don't buy any merch glorifying any ride or attraction I haven't visited or ridden on...

For years now, Bob has trumpeted Streaming as the "Big Thing to Modernize Disney." Not only was it supposed to be a cash cow in its own right, but they were going to data-mine it for products, IP, "Experiences", etc., in the parks and with their merchandising. Now, with Disney bleeding funds, he's finally facing the fact that they have to start cutting. But to admit that his pet project, "Streaming," is failing is beyond his pride's ability, so he has to cut production in something else. And Linear TV & its subordinates is close enough to studio production that perhaps he thinks no one will recognize how completely different it is. "It's all just made for video, right? TV and Streaming are just different ways to view the same product, so why fund both?" So he's making the cuts in something that sounds similar so his Streaming obsession can continue unabated. And thus his pride remains unscathed.

Iger the Terrible and his High Priestesses of Woke are not going to let a park expansion take place without DEI, not just in company operations, but most overtly in the attractions’ theming. This expansion is going to be woke as Hell. Disney is testing the waters with drag performers and not-so-subliminal politics in live music. Woke is their crusade and everything that comes from this will meet that corporate standard.

I don’t know about this being a switch… I’m not an Anaheim resident but I do live in SoCal not too far from Anaheim and from everything I had heard about Disneyland Forward and with the Avatar experience/land it was my understanding that the expansions were always gonna be at DCA. I’ve heard many talk about it even before Disneyland Forward was approved. Maybe those who talked about it being at DCA were just speculating due to the fact that the DCA side of the resort has more room to expand than the Disneyland side though. I don’t know though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I haven't been to Disney's west coast parks, but neither of them strike me as full day experiences like Knott's or Magic Mountain. Disney needs to expand both parks with new unique (not copied) lands or merge the 2 parks. Confusing messaging tells me Disney isn't sure what to do with their new permissions.

I think the big scope is that they plan to merge Disneyland and Disney California Adventure into one huge Disneyland. And maybe fill in part the eastern part of the Esplanade with Avatar. They could then move the park entrances to the current and proposed parking lots and hotels. They probably let the cat out of the bag without realizing it by just stating Disneyland in the former 2023 Disneyland Forward web page.

DCA is in desperate need of an actual expansion (adding acreage to the park itself). Disneyland proper is fine. They can always use a refresh or new things, but they are quite okay as-is. But DCA is like Walt Disney Studios park, or Hong Kong Disneyland before Arendelle was added. Half day at best. The garage is going to do wonders, though. Infrastructure is not sexy, but it’s essential to a good experience- much like offensive linemen in the NFL. Not sexy, but the best teams invest in what isn’t sexy.

A huge multi-level parking structure alone will eat up a big portion of the listed budget. Although Disney can charge big rates for parking & cover the cost of the garage, a DisneylandForward Parking Experience doesn't grab the imagination.

it’s not a bad system because people don’t understand it. People don’t bother doing any research before going somewhere like Disney World and spending all that money. That’s the issue. It’s bizarre but it’s true. When Haunted Mansion was undergoing a major refurbishment suddenly every other guest was claiming that ride was the main reason for their visit… it had been posted online for like a year before it happened. When they were closed during the pandemic I was working in a nearby restaurant. I served a couple who drove all the way here from Texas because they “assumed Disney would be open”. They didn’t do so much as check google maps for the hours let alone the Disney website 🫠 The directions are exceedingly simple. Ffs I actually had a guest back in the day lose their s saying they “felt like steerage on the Titanic” when I had to pause the standby line to take _fast passes._ Many guests _assumed_ it was an extra charge even though directions were listed not only online but in the park map, on signs near the entrance, and _announced on the monorail ride in._ It sucks that people miss out on anything but the amount of people that can ride in a day are allowed into the queue, _once each._ So more people are riding than would if they were allowed to cycle through.

Fallout is the only show I've seen recently that did the "short" season well. You could see the budget on the screen it was premium content. But what people want more of that we're not getting anymore of is long season shows with smaller budgets. We're not only missing sitcoms but scifi shows like Stargate SG-1, Star Trek, Farscape, etc. which looked good but had more reasonable budgets with 20 episode seasons.
