I am an Albanian guy, this Jamaican dude who did produce this kind of art with this idea to change the world, gives me hope for my race, the race of humans. I'm not a religious person but when I listen to Bob Marley, I can understand why *good people use scripture as guidance, whether that be the Abrahamic religions or the Eastern religions - any religious doctrine which preaches peace and goodness. Bob Marley conveyed it with the passion of how I imagine the prophets were perceived in their day. There is always a struggle or a set of struggles that keep people fighting and keep them searching for answers and in Bob Marley, you really felt a message which speaks to that in a way that is uncorrupted. This is on top of the fact that he was an amazing musician, as were the Wailers. For these reasons and many more, he becomes a kind of icon of the era we've been through. I put an "*" there as I believe that there are many bad people who use scripture to justify heinous, terrible actions. Some of these people use religion to enrich themselves and certainly do not live by the core messages of the religions they profess to preach about. Some of them use religion to pick on people they don't like. They will manipulate and use a following of people who want some kind of guidance in their lives, will take their money and will lead them astray whilst making themselves incredibly rich. Bob Marley was the opposite of these people - his religion was about justice, empowerment, the triumph of good and the betterment of humankind. I have met people of many religions who are the same way: they are good people who seek guidance to help them become good people. Some of the best people I have known have been religious and they were there for me when nobody else was. I have seen people of religion who use these old sacred notions of guidance and morality in order to buy themselves mansions, to profit, to mislead and to inspire hatred or mistrust which surely goes against the core tenants of which they profess to believe. But doesn't the Christian bible warn of false prophets? I'm sure that other religious scriptures have similar warnings. But with Bob Marley, he seemed to be truly guided by messages of love, peace, struggle for justice and for harmony. In those older times he may have been considered a prophet and some do call him that today. What I do know is that his music is uplifting, powerful, inspiring and that these aspects of his music reflected who he was as a person. Truly a great human being who will inspire people through the music he left behind for as long as we play music. It is rare to see a person who can spread their positive message through their art - Bob Marley is one of the greats and if there is a heaven, a paradise or whatever, I am sure that he would have made it there.
