To be honest, normally when a musician or any kind of artist makes it big and then claims they don't care about making money and being rich I'm a bit sceptical but there was something about the way Bob Marley said it that gave off a high level of sincerity. I am totally convinced that he REALLY didn't care about worldly gain at all. He had no interest in living a lavish lifestyle, even though he could have done.

True. My uncle, Ainsley was his record plant production manager and a childhood friend. My Uncle said that Marley didn't want a bed to sleep on even when he was an international star and employed dozens of people. His family bought him a bed, but Marley continued to sleeping on the floor.. Marley called sleeping on the floor being earthly. Growing up as a youth, Marley didn't have a bed also . He slept on the floor or an old door the elder guys played dominoes on.. At night he would have to wait for the guys to finish playing dominoes to get his bed to sleep on. But he wrote is best songs lying on the floor or under a tree. For example the song, Talking Blues . Later on as a successful musician, he would still walk barefoot to buy food even though was gifted a Range Rover. He never saw himself as a superstar. He was happiest living the simple life. He gave most of his tour money to the poor. There would be lines of people waiting to see him when he was at home. . He said money is vanity. The people were his true riches. Marleys money sent me to school for nearly two decades. Salute to him

That's why to me, movies like those are pointless, leave alone them being filtered to suit a narrative. There is so much footage of Bob Himself talking, performances etc. There's audio interviews too. Much better to do a Biopic/doc-movie instead. It can have parts 1, 2 etc coz the Bob Marley subject is wide.

Over four decades after his demise today and whenever people his songs they get connected, even young children when they hear his songs you can see in them the connection. Not only because of the sound of his music that rhymes to the heartbeat but also his words are so deep and can be simply understood. None, not one musician can reach his status in connecting to the human spirit. White, black, brown, yellow or any color be the skin, Marley can reach the mind and heart of anyone and all. A man like no other.

I agreed with everything you’ve said I’m only 16 and I’ve converted to Rastafari maybe 2 years ago. Not only because of the prophecies fulfilled by the events coming from Haile Selassie I through Marcus Garvey and the visionaries. but thee whole Lifestyle itself is The root of mankind and the root of how mankind should live. What people don’t know is that Bob Marley could actually speak regularly “normal” English. There are several early 1970s interviews where you’ll hear him talking in plain English. But he insisted in speaking in patois. While he was more comfortable with patois, it was also deliberate, as a means of reinforcing his blackness and emulating Emperor Haile Selassie who would speak in his native Amharic when interviewed or giving speeches overseas. It’s a form of “maintaining one’s identity.” After all, the Englishman and the Frenchman don’t switch to a different language to ensure they’re understood.

That's true of course except to the ears of the ignorant...I remember the UK dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson was asked by a reporter why patois was so eminent in his productions. He replied, being a son of the Caribbean living in Britain, all members of that community had a very strong and deep affinity to their cultural heritage and roots.

Bob Marley's music made a huge impact in my life as a teenager and right to this day. Through his music I knew my life is my life and so no one has to force me into being what/who he was me to be. He also made me to think or meditate above physical limits. Today, I still think you know. I meditate so much and I am always like connecting with something spiritual, you know. May his soul continue to rest in peace, in Jesus name amen ♥️♥️♥️

Only if you believe he died and was lost. Most of us certainly don’t. He’s more alive today than ever through his music, his message, and his memory. His wife, children, and mother no doubt felt a deep loss, as he was husband, daddy, and son to them. The children were still very young too. I think about that when I hear the Marley siblings speak, and feel somewhat sad for them. Hopefully, the passage of time has helped soothe their bereavement, but not every one of us can relate or understand what it feels like to lose a parent at a very young age. It’s great that they have each other. But, Bob Marley definitely lives!

Great comfort to have this of Bob Marley. Great speech. Had been there all around his place in Trenchtown and his countryside with no agenda shortly after he passed away as a youngster. Nice time to have this be presented on KZfaq as it is a questionable time in the U.S. now.

Although I grew up in another parish, as a Jamaican, all Jamaicans are my people, and I must say, I resent the way white men have historically characterized black people. The disparaging words used to describe the people of Trench Town in this video is on another level of disrespect like they’re animals.

Thank you for sharing, the part about Joe Higgs seemed new, some was released years ago and not rare. The ending tells about Melody Makers and mentions 'Marley's adopted sons.' His sons with Rita were not adopted, Ziggy and Stephen. They also had Cedella together. Sharon, the eldest of Rita and member of Melody Makers was his adopted daughter.

Bob Marley died at the early age of 36 , yet his life and music continues to inspire millions worldwide...Bob Marley wasn't perfect just like all of us aren't without faults, his message is everlasting and he has left an indelible movement, if only black people start respecting the sanctity of life and stop killing each other. "My riches is life" Bob Marley. WAKE UP BLACK PEOPLE...I hope that with the introduction of "The Philosophy and Opinion of Marcus Garvey" this will change a lot of people's mindset.

The same summer we went to a concert with Bob Marley and Wailer’s…..someone talked about that it was Keith Richard who went to Jamaica and then supported them to their first tour?!

Interesting interview and information from and about Bob Marley and friends. My understanding is that most Rastafarians saw Haile Salassie as a great Biblical African spiritual leader. Bob Marley and some others also saw Marcus Garvey as a role model, leader and appreciated his teachings. He was from St Ann's Bay before going to E Kingston. Then Trench Town. Why were the interviewer so interested in the very poor of Trench Town. I also noticed that when the Jamaican journalists was explaining about Bob Marleys philanthropy. I noticed that they were in a nicer area. But they didn't want to show it. Why is it some people like to focus on the very poor in many countries. Something to think about I believe. Peace and love my bothers and sisters.
