At this point it was like boxing is today: We know fixing is a thing, and there are varying opinions of how fixed it is, but its largely accepted as a legitimate sport. thats how wrestling was in the 50s, it wasnt common knowledge that the whole industry was fixed. There were matches where wrestlers tried to go off script for their own personal glory. For this reason, champions such as Lou Thesz had to be legitimately skilled grapplers who could legitimately crush an opponent who would attempt to go off script
