Bob Ross will never cease to amaze me. I never knew he did cityscapes too. Many critics online state that his technique was extremely limiting and non-versatile, but seeing this painting today has given me even more respect for this great painter.

Shout out to WNET Channel 13! As a lifelong New Yorker, this was the station that I watched all the public TV shows, including Bob. Also, I never knew he did any city-scapes. This painting speaks to me the way that all the mountains and trees spoke to Bob.

A very unique episode considering Bob himself has stated that he prefers to paint scenes with no signs of human life in them. Even when he paints a scene with a cabin or barn out in nature, they are typically old or abandoned.

This is a painting I would buy even though I’m not from New York...it looks so awesome at the end after he takes the contact paper off

Wow, this one was outstanding! The gray skyscrapers looked so real, even before he put the windows in. And of course the design from the contact paper was phenomenal.

Oh man I remember watching this one many times. I love when he uses the knife and this has a lot of it (ASMR.)

It's paintings like this that show the style Bob Ross embraced really didn't serve you well if you were trying to accurately present the formulaic and carefully designed order of man made architecture and other structures. I don't think it means he's bad at painting them, it's just the method he was so fond of really only shone with the chaotic and disordered imagery of the natural world.

I'm definitely going to need Bob after what happened in Dallas tonight.

He's really good when it comes to nature stuff like trees, mountains, grass, etc. But you'll never see him drawing living things in that series, like animals, or human figures. Sometime he drew "V" shapes on seascape images, that represented birds in a distance. And he didn't draw cities much also, this being rare exception. But it's not because he didn't know how to. He drew some animal pictures at least. An i didn't see him painting city scenes also, but i'm pretty sure he could do that too. The main reason behind that - nature not always have defined shape. You can do taps on your canvas with dark green, then with bright green - and that will be tree. But if you want to draw a skyscraper - you'll have to do some preparations, sketching it before, also carefully taking perspective into account. Same with living things, you have to sketch them, you have to plan their color patterns, etc. And it's time consuming. When they were creating each episode Bob in fact already done painting that he was doing one more time on camera. It served him as a reference, hiding off-screen. But even with that, he wouldn't be able to do 100% accurate copy on the canvas, sketching would be still needed. So i guess they just decided "Eh, we need to show at least 90% of painting creation, and sketching stuff will take maybe more than 30 minutes. Let's do it without sketches, let's stick to nature".

You know...thank God Bob Ross didn't live to see how it is today. How things are may've ruined his health more than the cancer did. I'd have hated to see someone like Bob get depressed or cynical, or get caught in the politics of media now. They would've used this as a marketing or social scheme rather than it be about the art or his personality. We instead can live with the happiness of Bob enjoying life and art.

Something I've learned... Once You beat the Devil out of the brush, You have to deal with the consequences of covering the entire studio with excess odorless paint thinner! It's okay, Bob, we'll protect You from that evil camera crew! 😢 They should be thankful that You are blessing them with Your presence of odorless paint thinner!
