On a track absolutely made for terrific 1000cc Right Hand Sidecar racing, this years Boarded Bash proved another success, with the big 1000cc RH Sidecars putting on an awesome display all through the day, with Neal Owen/Jason Farwell looking in fantastic form. Neal admits to loving this track, whether wet or dry, but he had plenty of competition with the likes of Paul Whitelam/Richard Webb, Kieran Hicks/Frankie Courtney, Dale & Jordan Fish, Clint Blondel with stand in passenger Andi Wilson, and out on his old machine Robbie Simmons/Ben Schofield. Whitelam/Webb looked the most likely crew to stop Owen/Farwell from taking the victory, with the pair starting to get use to their new Honda powered machine. Tremendous action from the monsters of the sport, and what a final.
In the Old & New Sidecars, Mark Courtney/Leon Torres had to be the crew to beat, and with no Liam Brown racing (Out through injury), Frankie Courtney has his first go on the bars of the Liam Brown machine. Could he possibly spring a surprise on his Dad and take the win? Dillon Newton with his sister in the chair may well have a say in that, as the pair looked very fast through the heats, and Sam & Guy Jacobs now getting more track time under their belts are really starting to improve.
The highlight in the Solo's had to be the GT140 class, with British Champion Ian Clark looking almost unbeatable in the class, but plenty of dangers to him were about, with Mark Chessell, Paul Smith, Mark Collins, and Max Derrick in the entry. Some of the closest racing of the day took place in this class, and very exciting it was to watch as well.
The remainder of the Solo classes suffered by some riders not turning up, and sadly the biggest loss was in the 500cc Solo's with Aaron Butcher not being there. This left the way open for young Jordan Derrick to show what he could do on a track he loved. Alfie Shipp & Finley Theobald both looked a class above the rest in their respected classes, but unfortunately for Theobald he had a non finish in one heat which cost him dear.
Cannot wait for the meeting in August for the Old & New Sidecar British Championships.
