No! Honey isn't happy when it's time to get brushed. If I start brushing her belly first, it relaxes her, and she'll work with me. It also helps if she's sleepy or chewing on a bone. But the key is to always start with their belly or favorite place even if they've already been brushed there.

Wolves are generally shy and will run away, but Honey protects her territory. She's a great judge of character. It's been fascinating learning from her. ❤️ 🐾

@@ItsDoneWithMirrors The outer layer of fur on a wolf is quite coarse and rough. Idk if there's any point trying to get anything done with a brush with softer or shorter bristles. Depends on what the purpose of the grooming is I guess. Luckily this type of coat quality also has the upside of not matting very easily, and things like rain, mud and dirt don't really stick like they will on a softer top coat, so the wolf probably doesn't have to tolerate a whole lot of this lol.

She was barely tolerating it, wanting to eat the brush! 😂 Have you thought of trying the Hands On gloves? My dog's mostly OK with them.

That sounds like a wonderful idea, but she's terrified of gloves. You only have 4 months to introduce them to things, and last summer, I was walking around in heavy jackets, boots, and umbrellas, but I forgot gloves. It was a huge error on my part. She is doing better with the brush now. She gets super jealous when I brush Bob and insists she gets brushed. So now I know I just have to start brushing Bob, and then I can get her. She's a goofy little one. ❤️ 🐾

Just for anyone who doesn't know, K9s will often bite out of pleasure, if they enjoy something, they may nibble it, such as the brush or your hand... if they don't like it, they snap at it and show their teeth or krinkle their nose.

Yes! I'm trying to help change that big bad wolf theory we've had ingrained into us from childhood on. She's such a family oriented little girl. She loves big, is passionate, and is beyond loyal. She is a full-time job, but it's that unconditional love that makes it all worth it. ❤️ 🐾

I remember the first time I saw a wolf in person. Before, I’d just thought of them as wild dogs. I was 19 and getting my first tattoo from a wandering soul named Doc Green. He had a full traveling (gleaming) studio hitched to his truck, a wonderful and beautiful wife, and a wolf named Ratu he’d raised from a pup. For my piece, he actually invited me over to their home for dinner. After, he brought Ratu out to the living room while we chatted about my design, but first he warned me: 1. do not look her in the eyes 2. do not make any sudden movements 3. do not speak or shout loudly, and 4. do not get in her face or reach towards her for any reason. She came out, sniffed me all over, and sat up on the couch next to me… easily twice the size of any dog I’d ever seen besides my buddy’s Great Dane. She looked at me, I looked away. We sorta just sat there while he gave her commands and dispensed advice to me until she felt comfortable with a few petting strokes. After less than a minute, when she moved her head a certain way, he said “that’s enough,” and I slowly withdrew my hand. The whole time that he worked on me, she sat just by my feet, staring or resting. I was too young and ignorant to feel fully comfortable with that situation, but it’s still a stellar memory. I wish I knew then what I know now - both learned and through experience - for I could have interacted with her much more. Still, I’ve never looked at or thought of wolves quite the same way since. They are not wild dogs. They’re barely dogs at all, lol. They are wolves, plain and simple. Massive, stoic, solemn, soulful, and self-assured in a way almost every domesticated dog just doesn’t quite understand. When you confidently look a dog in the eye, it usually looks away - or, sometimes, it might start growling as a challenge. When you look a wolf in the eye, if it turns the other one on you, you just pee your pants. It is _not_ the same vibe _at all._ They were my spirit animal before and they still are. I just understand them much better now.

Quite a few years ago I remember hearing about an experiment with wolf pups, to see how they differed from dogs. The people that took part had to have had a dog, either then or earlier I think. While a dog could be taught to wait patiently when you opened the fridge, (it might get something) the wolf would be into the fridge. They also said while a dog would take an interest in what you were doing around the yard. The wolf would have it's own agenda.

I think it probably depends on personality, they are still individuals after all. There's one dude on here with a husky and a wolf high content wolf dog or pure wolf I can remember and the dog is always (at least for the snip-its they share) following around trying to see what his human is doing. He got really upset when his person was on the roof fixing something and he couldn't see him.

if they show you their hiney, they trust you and want you to pet/scratch their butt and tailbone as thats an area they cant reach themselves. They really like it. I notice atleast with husky wolves, they also like thigh rubs from this position too. lol even shoulder rubs at the front of the shoulder more than the side

I used to work in Northern Ontario and I was suprised at how small some wolves actually are....the one I saw was white mostly and howled when her mom came into the shop..

Most of them are about the size of a big dog. 😃 The average female's only 70 pounds. Honey's almost 80 pounds. I'm always trying to fatten her up cause she looks so skinny. ❤️ 🐾

Due to a car accident that left him with a broken leg and pain, a friend's GSD had developed an aversion to brushing. And anyone who knows the ever shedder knows that that's not good. ( fur 🌪️) There are special grooming gloves that don't tug. They are very effective. Even an ever shedder hardly has a chance against it. The dogs also love it because they are being “petted”.

Even dogs vary in their brushability. One of dogs loves it, she even likes the vacuum cleaner attachment with vacuum on. My other dog hides under the bed when she sees me coming with the brush. She's not having it.

our wolf malamutes loved being brushed but got overstimmed easily so we could only do it in small batches unless we wanted to spend the next hour or so outside letting them work through the zoomies.

Maybe she'd like it more if you used a proper brush instead of a comb?? Just a thought because I know my animals prefer a brush over a comb.😁

My cat will only tolerate one of those cheap plastic human combs that come in a multi pack. One of her brothers loves the furminator (which I recommend) and the other brother mostly tolerates it.

exactly what i said, thats not a brush. A comb prob feels like claws. Can double over with your fingers to pick up more hair thats sloughing off with a brush.

They do, or rather, they will, after they realize what you're doing. Like cats who think at first you're attacking them, they'll start liking it when they realize what it's for.
