My Aunt isisted on waiting for her son to get off of work so he could take her to ER. She didn't make it. It was terrible. She passed away as they were taking her blood in the ER, awful.

@Betty Johnson: I worked in ER for years and whenever someone says “chest pain, “ they DO NOT make you wait.

Sad thing is, so many people believe that saying "chest pain" means they'll have a room waiting when they get to the ER. So an ingrown toenail often becomes "chest pain" and an ambulance ride. But if the assessment in the ambulance and then the initial intake assessment in the ER says probably an ingrown toenail and NOT "chest pain", then no. You don't get to go straight to a room. You get to wait. People abuse the system. That clogs the system. And people with real "chest pain" get lost in the shuffle.

Totally agree. Mom, 97, just had one a mild one and some blood clots were found, as well. We thought it was indigestion or heartburn. Spent 4 days in hospital, she's back home and is on bloodthinners but still feels tired. Some of the meds doctors prescribed were causing her too many side effects... anxiey, dizziness, and nausea. I talked to her primary care physician to lower dosage and give us some alternatives. I'm praying she recovers.

They will not apologize ever. I was put on radatidine and took the half used bottle to the dr. and asked what should I do with these? They are recalled as causing cancer. She said just throw them out. No apology, although I did expect one. At least a bit of concern would have been nice.

5 years ago this March i had a mild heart attack which lead to my diagnosis of having systolic heart failure after stating 4 to 5 months previous to my primary care doc that i have had since i was 23.. check me let me have a full exam .. it got pushed off.. when u had mine it was like indigestion with heaviness that i couldn't shake.. was diagnosed with this all at age 44 .. been on low so diet ever since and still fighting the weight and i am active.. take care of your bodies .. I'm not where i wanted to be at age 50 but i am alive and these guys are so informative.. love Bob and Brad the 2 most famous physical therapists on the internet ❤👏😁 (let's say this , listen to your body, it is giving u signs like they state here) also my primary care listens to me since my warning signs but it was anxiety and all that from issues i had going on at the same time (whiplash, Plantar fasciitis, should injury, 2 pinched nerves 🤦🏼‍♀️) call 911 if u have issues is the bottom line

Normal blood pressure doesn’t mean you aren’t having a heart attack (as you well know!). They must check your cardiac enzymes through blood work, and do EKG’s. Anyone that even thinks they are having cardiac issues must take an aspirin and get to the Emergency Room! Call an ambulance so you can get on a monitor and be given oxygen. They will keep you on bed rest and give you oxygen in the hospital (if they deem it is indeed cardiac) to allow your heart to be rest as much as possible, and will do tests and surgery if you need it. Above all else… TREAT YOUR STRESS! Stress CAN bring on a heart attack.

Natural Man thanks, He just didn’t consume alcohol, any processed foods, and he avoided excess carbs. Basically the opposite of the standard American diet. He also exercised regularly. Just a week before his death he was being honored at work for having perfect attendance for 30 years. The man never took a sick day. It’s all very ironic.

You can’t run away from genetics. His family has a history of heart disease. You can take steps to prevent the onset, but you can’t prevent something like that if it is encoded in your DNA. If he had kept up on preventative health visits, it’s possible they could have caught early signs of a problem. Less than subtle clues that were visible in his postmortem.

People only think that cigarettes damage the lungs and that they could get lung cancer but they have no idea is that cigarette smoking causes heart attacks and strokes!!! As an RN I am telling you.. if you cherish your life and your family stop smoking it can be done!!! I quit my roli twenties and I'm glad I did!! And this was way before it was popular to quit smoking!! We also did not know the cardiac risks back in the 70s like we do now!!!

If it causes anxiety then you need to observe this as useful information because it could infact save you. You can deal with your anxiety symptoms by taking in slow deep breaths through your nose and then breathe out slowly through your lips and relax. Do this by sitting down with your head tilted back and eyes closed, then let me know how you feel after doing this please?

I had a sudden cardiac arrest. I lost 5 weeks memory. That's okay though. I am still alive thanks to my husband being home and the first responders.

I was 46 when I started having BACK pain early on a Sunday morning. It lasted about 5 minutes and would go away. Then I would fall back asleep only to be woken up again 2-3 hours later. Everytime this happened it was about 45 minutes to an hour earlier each time until it was happening every 10 minutes. My cousin was staying with me at the time and called 911. Meanwhile I was chewing baby aspirin. The EMT's said my BP was 235/190. Not good. But likely the aspirin saved my life. They got me to the ER in 15 minutes from 23 miles away. They were flyin'. The ER doc ran some tests and came back in about 25 minutes and said, we are not sure how many heart attacks you have had, but its at least 3 and we have booked the OR for Wednesday. That got postponed 2 days. Afterwards the next day the surgeon talked to me and said they had planned a triple bypass, but on the table it was changed to a 6 way CABG. 3 arteries were 90% blocked and 1 was completely blocked in 2 places. After a week I was sent home the following Friday. By Sunday I was so sick I couldn't stand and went back to the ER via the same ambulance. I was septic and all the work from the first bypass was completely destroyed. After the 2nd bypass, he left my chest open an inch and a half. My brother said he could see my heart beating in my chest. I told him that was a good thing. When I asked the doc how long it would be before I could go home, he said as soon as your chest closes up on its own. Because only then they would know the infection was gone. They also had a wound vac on my leg and one on my chest changed out daily. I went home 5 months later. I had to learn how to bathe and walk all over again and had a home care nurse and rehab for the next 8 months. Now it was February of 2017 and my brother had passed on the first. After I got back home I was doing pretty good. That was until a valve collapsed in October 2018 walking into the VA for a Dr. appointment. I had a heart attack in the parking lot and ended up CRAWLING inside. They put in a stent that weekend. I felt great until July of 2020 when I decided to by myself a late birthday present at the Harley dealership. I had never been on a bike in my life. So I signed up for their coarse. However, 3 hours into the first day I was doing horrible. I was sweating so bad it looked like I had been thrown in a pool. With Covid, they didn't get me in until MARCH of this year. After X rays and an MRI, they scheduled an OR for angioplasty.They discovered a collapsed vein cutting off 20% of the blood flow in my heart. I had had yet another heart attack. I am doing much better now. 2 bypasses, sepsis, 2 stents and at least 5 heart attacks later. I turned 51 in May and have still not been able to ride the bike. So, my friend. Take care of yourself. But don't dwell on shit. Take life as it comes and live each day to the fullest. Even if that means you have to stare at your new bike a year and a half before you can ride it.

I haven’t found a good primary doctor in a couple years. I’m still hunting... It takes a while to sign up to try one out and give them a chance before you realize they don’t have the same priorities as you do.

if you're a senior you don't get one...they give up and transfer you to some 30 year old kid who doesnt' understand what it feels like to be 90.

Please read Dr Caldwell Esselstyn's book or KZfaq video on "How to Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease". I have a strong family history of heart disease and have been following his no oil whole plant based diet. Made a huge difference in my risk factors. Best wishes to your husband for a long and healthy life following Dr Esselstyn's advice.

Many smokers have “panic attacks “, anxiety. Don’t try to diagnose yourself (like we all do) and please don’t be afraid to call 911. They have the absolute most life-saving drugs and equipment and can get to you much faster. Pay attention to pain that doesn’t go away when you lie down and do nothing. That’s when you know to call 911 . And please, I doubt you’re a hypochondriac because a true hypochondriac rarely sees it within himself.

I completely agree with this! It's so scary. And then they just dismiss you once they hear "anxiety." I still worry up to now but I try to maintain my health as much as I can. I totally get where you're coming from.

I called an ambulance a few months ago for my mom due to an unknowing at the time, low blood sugar episode. She was completely delirious and acting like it was epilepsy. She got mad at me and refused to go in the ambulance. Because she refused, I was given a bill for $200 for treating her in her home with glucose packets they had and a peanut butter sandwich I made for her on direction from the EMTs. I shudder at what the bill would have been with the ambulance.

yup so true. my mom was misdiagnosed. my dad called 911 she went to er and spent 3 hours had low blood pressure was conscious and by the time they realized she had blockage they put a stent in her lad. bu then heart was too weak and she died in icu 10 days later. borderline malpractice if u ask me

The number one thing that women die of more than anything else, even breast cancer, is a heart attack. I was not taken seriously at first when I had mine. I was 47, 113 pounds, ran 2 miles a day and ate very healthy. It can happen to anyone at any age. And yes, the symptoms ARE different. I had no chest pain. I felt like someone hit me in the back of the head with an aluminum baseball bat.

How did the blood test indicate heart issues? Do you know what the test is?

@@melindaturner3311 When the heart is damaged, heart cells burst releasing heart specific enzymes ( proteins) into the blood, that are normally only in the blood in tiny amounts. So they will gradually rise in the blood, peak & start to diminish. These can be easily measured several hours intervals. Thus the peak figure will give you an indication of the degree of heart damage- not always due to a heart attack. Hence, other investigations & clinical history.

My niece’s husband (34-year-old) told my niece he thought he was having a heart attack. She thought he was joking and laughed and he said he was serious so she put him in the car and drove him 15 minutes to the ER. Sadly, he was DOA. Always call 911!!

Same situation having hypothyroid and having all you mentioned in my case its brain fog,muscle cramps and spasms, tiredness and fatigue all tests were fine like cbc,cholestrol,ekg,echocardiogram cause of my high blood pressure and found that i have hypothyroid in moderate amount and been on throid medication after that. How you feeling now did you experienced high blood pressure on this problem??

@@kishorearavind6557 I had muscle cramps and spasms too. I actually had very low blood pressure before the thyroid condition was found and now it's normal. I ended up having my left side removed because the mass on that side kept growing. Overall, I am better but I will be on meds and monitoring it the rest of my life.

@@davitodd9299 very glad that youve recovered from the condition in my side it gotten worse with high blood pressure typically the diastole was so high now on bp meds and thyrpid medications too after few weeks the of thyroid medications i feel a lil bit better now, as you said it might even take months for treat the condition and keep track of it for the lifetime coz its been 2 months on this medications so far but the condition i faced before was like years tho. Hope everything gets better soon its weird like im 25 and having all this issues tho. Hardly coping up with this and issued to take renal doppler tests and few more to make sure that the high bp that i have not damaged the kidneys, if it is it may be the reason for my high bp issues as my gp says :( these conditions sucks the energy out of me alot. Have you ever had an ECG (EKG)? After 54 years though, maybe you're OK! If they come on strong, it's probably a good idea to go to the ER. Even once. If you get a clean bill of health, it can also be a relief!

Excellent advice Holly. People know their own body. We know our normal self so listen closer to differences.

I have premature arterial contractions (PAC) - basically an extra "beat" between normal beats. They don't hurt, but are scary because it feels like a fish flopping around in my chest. Had a stress test run, and aside from that everything was normal. I switched to a WFPB lifestyle (lost 60 lbs along the way) and it's improved dramatically. I avoid almost all fats too, even plant ones. The ONLY time I experience it anymore these days is when we eat out and I eat a fatty meal, or I make a meal somewhat higher in fat (rare treat). Night times after these meals are occasionally brutal. Nothing like the fluttering to wake you up at 3am, feeling like your heart is going to burst from your chest!

As a cardiac ICU RN of 40 years I have NEVER heard of anyone male or female getting a locked jaw from a heart attack. Please don't give out medical information if you are not a medical professional. Can chest pain be referred to the jaw area...sure.....but LOCKED jaw....sorry thats a completely different condition.

@@nickisnyder3450 When I was doing my training this was mentioned and to be aware that male and females signs and symptoms vary. It’s not actual lock jaw it’s the sensation not being able to open also cramp in jaw area.

Always get 2nd 3rd opinions. The best doctor I’ve ever known once said to me...”let me tell you a secret. Us doctors really don’t know everything.” Wasn’t all that reassuring...but hey...points for honesty.

My relative went to the doctor and was being treated for acid reflux. A few weeks later at home in bed he had a massive heart attack and was gone. Another doctor was treating my mother for acid reflux and with a second opinion was determined to have congestive heart failure. I have no proof but I begin to wonder sometimes if drug promotions can influence doctors' diagnosis?
