WOW!!! After 57 years of owning the record "Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey" and playing the B-side probably dozens of times during the summer of 1960, I'm just now realizing that this is the same song as the Gerry & The Pacemakers remake from nearly 5 years later. That's pretty incredible!!!

His music has no time limits even my younger son listens to all his music. He was taken way too soon. A young man with so much talent, yet someone who wanted to make a difference in the world. You're missed Bobby even now. But so happy you were here even though in our hearts it was no long enough

Have to admit the first time I heard this song, it was Gerry Marsden's version and I loved it. I grew up in a Bobby Darin loving household, and when I found out it was Bobby's song I instantly listened to' it. I find I love both versions, I actually saw Gerry sing it live in Brighton, England in the 70s but most unfortunately was too young to ever see Bobby Darin perform it live. He died way too young.

On this day in 1965 {January 12th} Gerry and the Pacemakers performed "I'll Be There" on the NBC-TV program 'Hullabaloo'... One month earlier on December 12th, 1964 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #14 and spent 10 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #15 on the United Kingdom's Singles chart... The song was written and originally recorded by Bobby Darin in 1960; his version peaked at #79... R.I.P. Mr. Darin {1936 - 1973}...

Bobby Darin's self penned and recorded song "I'll Be There" is the best version. His unique versatile multi-talents took Bobby along many varied paths in his life and giving his fans the opportunity to see just what this young man was really all about. If Bobby had made it through his recovery this world would have been a bigger oyster for him than it already was at the time. Bobby's songs are timeless and I always experience great joy listening to them, even my young nine year old grand child loves listening to him, singing along. Says something for music of the 50's, 60's and early 70's doesn't it. Fantastic era in time. Best ever in the business. Love Bobby's entire enormous body of work, man is a genius. RIP Bobby !!!!!!

A great voice and went from this planet too early like Elvis, Roy the boy, Jim Reeves, Brooke Benton, and on it goes. These were the best years of music when it changed to stereo. Yes, it was the flip side of "Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey", on Atco Records 6167. My friend who graduated from high school in 1959 has the original single on Atco. I also checked a few of the Bobby Darin discography's on the internet, and they all say that this song was on the flip side in '59-'60. Bill Bailey was the A side and got up to number 19 on the U.S. music charts, while Darin's own composition of I'll Be There" peaked at number 79 on the charts.

This song was on the "B" side of Bobby's 1960 single "Won't You Come Home, Bill Bailey?"...Don't know why it didn't catch on then. I was only 5 at the time. LOL But, fast forward a few years, and Gerry and the Pacemakers discover the song, and it is a hit, and makes money for Darin, as the songwriter. Nice. He also wrote his hit songs "Splish Splash" and "Dream Lover", if I'm not mistaken.

Bobby Darin was a genius, when it came to writing a song or interpreting a classic, Bobby could do it all. It’s was so sad when way, back in 1960, this was just the flip side of Bobby’s hit “Bill Bailey”. it took Gerry and the Pacemakers to get the song the play it so richly deserved. So what’s old is new again, Here’s Bobby....P.S. if you want this song and many other great Bobby Darin tracks, this is on his album “Things & Other Things”. MK 2020

This was the B side of Bobby's Top 20 record, "Won't You Come Home, Bill Bailey", a record I bought for the B side! (Although "Bill Bailey" was also a damn good record..) But "I'll Be There" I always found profoundly haunting. Gerry and The Pacemakers made a hit out of it in 1965, but I didn't think it came near Bobby's version. (It was written by Darin.)
